I wish to live a calm, quiet life. Similar to that of a wizard in his tower. I want to gather knowledge for the sake of it. Because it's fun. Because if someone accidentally wanders into my tower, I may be able to guide them in the right direction.
I've seen many "I used to look up to you" or "I told you he was a ___" or "How does he have such a large audience" posts about this.
I saw a "he's a right-wing reactionary retard".
So much for "free choice" and "open and honest discussions"
i've had enough. of the trans blackmailing
it's gender dysphoria, it's not real. you're not a woman. i'm sorry
i love you. i love you! if you're a friend, and you're hurt by this, know that i love you!
but i really don't think that hormone treatment is good for you. i don't!
@lightxvision
After that the entire rest of the program is centered around the singular goal of implementing practical solutions to a business problem/s from scratch. Only way you pass is if those problems gets resolved. Maybe a tiered problem system. Like game levels up till the final boss.
He is correct btw. This is a normal opinion to have. The internet has brainwashed so many of these impressionable, lost souls into believing they can change fundamental laws of biology through self mutilation and chemical injection.
@tunahorse21
Code production != business value
Cool you can use a drill, so can anyone after like 20 min of messing with it. Can you build a chair? How about putting TV mounts in concrete? Do you know where to buy the bits? How much they cost and how long they typically last?
Prime example of many of the things
@ConceptualJames
has been discussing for many years. They don't actually want to talk about it. They want you to be an "ally". To take up their cause.
@shauseth
jobs are ubi for adults
social security is ubi for old people
college loans are ubi for young people
there is no ubi for kids. that's just free labor
It's even sadder seeing "technical" and "scientific" types say this stuff. No wonder our innovative fields are stalled out. They're operated by people who think men can become women and vice versa.
Just for posterity, I'm not "right-wing". Holding an opinion does not make you a member of a given team.
I have a younger sister and the thought of someone brainwashing her into permanently sterilizing herself makes me fume.
@yacineMTB
That is a certified "post". That's one of those you bookmark for later and come back to every so often cause it hits something with such pinpoint accuracy.
Mind you this doesn't mean I'm correct. Maybe I've got the whole thing wrong. At this time I don't think that's the case. I just don't like seeing people suffer unnecessarily. It's very painful to only be able to watch as someone self implodes...
@ZyMazza
I played through Ghost of Tsushima recently and it made me interested in a few different things, including archery with a recurve or longbow. I may start taking a look more seriously.
@PirateSoftware
> build community bonds so strong they complete objectives meant to last a week in mere hours.
> threaten community's ability to be a community
> consequences ensue
@yacineMTB
Btw this is how the entire world works.
90% noise, 10% signal (~80/20). It's the random chance encounters that really move the needle. It's why more volume is the best strat to grow faster. Just keep rolling the dice till you get that nat 20.
@joodalooped
I'll accept that. Plenty of cool shit to do. I'll leave that level to those who are built for it. There's literally an entire other world of stuff to work on so I think I'll be alright.
@yifever
I've been attempting to watch social dynamics like these play out on here for a while. I don't believe many people are actually "friends" when the rubber hits the road. If this is the reaction to minor disagreements, then I'd hate to see if something actually serious happened.
@qtnx_
> watching early 20s people bootstrap LLMs

*googling* "How does recursion work?"
Watching people do stuff on here sometimes makes me feel like I wasted my whole life 😭
@visakanv
More responsibility + many people inter-personally will treat you differently. I've heard many instances where you start being treated like a commodity to gain favor with instead of a person.
@moonbeamdreams_
Teachers, in my experience, are some of the most spiteful, unhappy, & vitriolic people I've met in my entire life. They seem very entitled about their positions. They are a large reason why I despise the education system so much.
@amix011
Memorizing arbitrary textbook paragraphs due to the lack of homework implementations for those subjects.
I tried using external resources for some of the subjects during the courses, but found that most of the jargon was specific to the textbook we used so nothing translated.

@313formation
Dropping out is usually done due to a forcing function of a thing you've built gaining so much traction that the tradeoff is somewhat obvious. Being delusional is a corollary not an indicator.
@MarmotRespecter
wtf? Is that a thing? but like... the giant lights. Do they turn those to "dim"? Do they have a "dim"? Now I'm thinking about the logistics...
@visakanv
oh no... it's another sign from the universe to "just do thing". I don't know how many of these it's going to take before I get, but man am I gonna make them work for it 😅
@knowclarified
The degree to which things like this are true is relative to ones own belief of them being so.
It's also from reddit and I largely don't value reddit's opinion on things.
@Duderichy
It's possible to learn a decent amount of the basics of a domain space, but you won't achieve any noteable proficiency. It's goes from "I know nothing about this" to "I'm AWARE of about 80% of the basic things in this space".
@eigenrobot
This is literally my dad's approach to almost every construction project we've done.
"Do you have a plan?"
"Yeah, I've got a plan"
> runs out of wood
"I thought you said you planned it all out ahead of time?"
"Well I did. The plan was go to the store when I run out of wood."
@eigenrobot
I would not recommend attempting to kill a bat with a lawn mower. There are much better methods. Lawn mowers are generally ineffective against "aerial comBATants". Snakes are weak to this weapon type though.
@ZyMazza
Hot take: It never did
I'm not sure the current conception of AI will ever be granted blessing. It's too obscured by utopians, regulators, "efficiency optimizers", and saftey-ists.
There is much hype, but no guiding principles.
@mimi10v3
Willingness to negotiate (admitting when wrong but also self advocates)
Ability to delay gratification
Oriented toward long term goals
Capacity for violence but under voluntary control
Verbal competency (listening, mirroring, articulating)
@eigenrobot
After reading this I'm left... idk befuddled. The article is great and it echoed things I've picked up myself. However, I'm very close to my mom and younger sister this has not remotely reflected how they operate. I think this explains my preference in people.
@MamanLunettes
Based. Had a similar (less serious) bullying issue for a bit in middle school. School's response: "It's just boys being boys, he doesn't understand what he's doing". My parents basically gave me the green light to "defend myself". Never came to it but I'll always remember that.
@tunahorse21
"Have you ever work with x?"
"I've built y thing by learning insert adjacent technology and it taught me more about z. It's very similar since they both operate using generalized underlying arch model so I'd be pretty comfy using it since it's quite similar."
@MarmotRespecter
Oooo, I personally like the word "clod". It has some punch to it. When you hear it its like "wtf did you just call me?"
Another favorite is "institutionally handicapped" or "liberal". (haha funny joke, unless?)
Rough outline of my goals by that time. (5 years from now)
> Moved out from living with parents
> 6 fig job
> Paid off car
> Well developed eating/exercise habits
> Much move developed cooking skills (I have none)
> Better reading habits (I do not read much lol)
> Regular blog
@PicoPaco17
I didn't realize there were so many of them... is that whose been building stuff while the "culture war" has been going on? Heads down, locked in.
@BeatleZombie
@MarmotRespecter
NO WAY... holy shit that's awesome, hilarious, and stupid all at the same time.
... I'd totally go during that time and think that's what I think is most disappointing.
@MostlyMonkey
I will not personally take sides, but I will absolutely sell weapons to both sides. If you're gonna fight anyway I'll just be here with my popcorn.
There's a few accounts on here that I just observe from a distance as I watch them circle the drain of mental instability... please someone help these people lol. They're like feral creatures. Where is the zoo? Can we build one?
@justalexoki
True friends are the ones that you duke it out with full force, give a solid handshake, and then go grab beers after. You criticism them because you love them. You fight because you know, at the end of the day, you're on the same team.
@startupmillyair
Probably not, but there will likely be less. Being actually good at frontend design is hard, though I wouldn't know the accuracy of that claim. I'm not good at it either.
@tunahorse21
gm. I initially was unaware that specifically the stimulant use was so high. Then I started hanging out on this site a bit more and became very aware of it.... and all the other stuff.

how does openAI have 5 billion dollars in projected losses? that's... 5... billions. how do you spend 5 billions in a year? what'd you do with the money Sam? did you spend it all on gambling? you making gold plated dummies in the basement? you racing super cars in the congo?
@liminal_warmth
I would be quite honored if even one person, much less a group of people, is genuinely that invested in determining my eligibility as a partner. If someones friends are that invested in their future well being, then they've clearly done something right.
@slangchain
I mean they're doing a great job, so kudos on that front. Unified gaslighting is very effective. Throwing epithets, changing what words mean, and ascribing positions to people unbeknownst to them is very effective.
@qtnx_
Literally "does it work?" and "did you have fun?" are the only things that matter. Choosing "Hater" as your job proficiency off spawn is crazy. Energy vampires.
I don't want to be involved with "culture war" stuff, like at all. I like computers, video games, and the like. A certain group keeps invading every facet of the world and demanding that their world view be implemented.
@tunahorse21
I think I ended up getting my internship because I worked at Chick-fil-A previously. They didn't ask any "solve this algorithm" questions, just mostly "are you a pain to work with" questions.
I've never studied leetcode outside of the college classes that used it... haha...
@selentelechia
Interesting observation. Wouldn't that be ironic if screens become so normalized that they're just not that interesting to a lot of kids anymore?

@eigenrobot
I do hope LLMs or something akin to it will be able to help with the aggregation of research data as time progresses. Or perhaps a filtering mechanism for faulty, inconclusive, or non-falsifiable papers would work more appropriately.
Husbands are on top of the situation, but wives will get to the bottom of the situation if the husband isn't actually on top of said situation.
A tale as old as time...
why did no one, until me, have the idea of referring to husbands as tops and wives as bottoms as a gesture of inclusion
it would have been hilarious in 2017 or so
it might still be hilarious
@orthonormalist
This is sick. Built in excel exporting. Easy bulk issue adjustment. Much cleaner UI. Basically converts the whole menu system to a series of manipulable tables. Hell yeah. My company is way to much of a mess atm to every get use out of it, but seems like a great offering.
@knowclarified
I basically need an information butler that can bring me relevant info and a group of peers to discuss ideas with. Basically anything that helps empower self guidance. I can sort the rest out based off of what I want to do.
What are half these people are on about? I literally have no idea what's happening when I read certain posts. Not in a disagreement way, I mean I can't parse what they're saying. I don't know these terms or acronyms or slang. What is happening?
