The pacing of these episodes feels more like the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones. Actions are allowed to breathe and sink in with the viewer. Episode 1 in particular does a fantastic job at building up momentum.

I agree with the reviews that Tom Glynn-Carney and Emma D‘Arcy are the absolute highlights of these episodes in terms of performance. While it completely caught me off guard how complex and layered Aegon is, Rhaenyra carries one of my favorite scenes of the entire show so far.

If you think HotD season 2 has been too slow so far, the next episode is the one for you. It‘s hard to believe how far tv has come. A few years back you could only see this type of stuff in movies. Episode 4 is action packed, dark and controversial.

I absolutely adore the Harrenhal storyline in S2. It highlights something that Game of Thrones shied away from time and time again: the magical, fantastical aspects of ASOIAF. HotD doesn‘t and it‘s glorious. A book readers wet dream.

Returning and new cast members also deliver, especially Phia Saban, Sonoya Mizuno as well as someone new, who will definitely become a fan favorite. The "new" pacing proves to be extremely beneficial here, because we can spend more time with a variety of the cast.

The best way I can describe it is: The vast majority feels like season 2 (!) of Game of Thrones with small, controversial moments that remind me of discussions I‘ve had for S5/6 of Game of Thrones. All in all, HotD continues to be a good show and I‘ve enjoyed both episodes a lot!

Since they‘re comparing it to Thrones, I‘d say Emma‘s portrayal of Rhaenyra is as good as Michelle Fairley‘s Catelyn or Lena Headey‘s Cersei. Yes, THAT good.
I‘m usually very skeptical when I read shit like this, but it‘s bang on. Emma‘s portrayal in the two episodes I‘ve seen already deserves all the Emmys in the world.

I‘ve said it before, but HotD’s Harrenhal plot is all I ever wanted for Jaime Lannister in the original show. It‘s where HotD feels the most like ASOIAF, because it doesn‘t shy away from exploring a characters deepest, darkest insecurities and struggles.
