━ Start small, work your way up. Some classics are definitely easier than others. Have a look around, some of my personal recommendations are The Master & Margarita, Frankenstein, The Metamorphosis, No Longer Human, and the Death of Ivan Ilych

━ You don't need to read classics to be a "real reader"

So! What can you do to make it easier for yourself?
━ Forewords are your new best friend! Yes most people skip them, but the people writing them tend to know the text like the back of their hand, and their interpretation of it will help you understand the context better

━ You're not cheating if you have to look up words! Google & dictionaries go a long way with helping comprehension
━ You're also not cheating if you need chapter summaries! Websites like Sparknotes can be helpful while finding your feet

━ It might suck for a while but it's a matter of familiarization with the words used, so you do have to just keep pushing through!
━ Erase the notion that all classics are the height of literature and therefore above criticism. Engage with it like you would any other book!

━ Find authors that work for you! Again, not every classic is going to be for you and you'll not like some writers just how you would with a contemporary (FUCK you Charles Dickens.)
━ Take breathers while reading. Sometimes it might just be a matter of digestion to understand

━ Take a little longer reading it than you would a contemporary book. Contemporary books are written with familiar sentence structure, tone, and words, it's not the same with classics. You need to pump the breaks a little when diving into one.

If they do I've never cared much to check 💀 authors need to stay out of reviewer spaces and that includes ARC reviews imo, I just think we shouldn't be policing reviews that offer constructive criticism if someone rates it under 3 stars

Don't get me wrong I adore RF Kuang, I think she's so clever, but the pedestal people on twt put celebrities on is insane. Reading is subjective because it's an artform, critique is integral to it because it forms interpretations‼️
just like every author, people are allowed to critique rf kuang’s works. she’s not off limits because her books have heavy themes. every time someone critiques her on this app, it turns into discourse and an accusation of being “racist”… go touch grass
