@PsychNiles this well intentioned incentive has (predictable) bad outcomes in ie physicians: they choose more easy to treat patients to boost their outcomes and reject difficult or more severe pathology with the result of poorer health outcomes

@PsychNiles And therapy is more than a reduction on a BDI or whatever scale. Not that scales aren't useful at all, but the method becomes an end in itself in this way and that is highly undesireable

@NilsRWinter I find it very interesting and humbling that asking a some questions about childhood maltreatment and social support actually scores higher than very expensive, time consuming and complex imaging techniques together.

@EikoFried Yes indeed, the conviction of the therapist has a large effect on the treatment efficacy. I don't know if I would classify it as purely placebo though

@EikoFried I was also thinking more about COI: many psychelic studies are carried out by true believers in its effect and they are really dedicated to find an effect. Studies on therapeutic alliance of the researchers have shown that this can lead to big effects in psychotherapy studies
