At my Forrestal lecture at the Naval Academy, I discussed a theme from ROBERT E. LEE AND ME. I grew up revering Lee. No more. As a soldier & scholar, I now know there were 8 US Army colonels from VA. 7 remained loyal. Only Lee chose treason. Why? To preserve slavery.

Yesterday, the nation did the right thing. It changed an army post name that honored Robert E Lee (a traitor for slavery) to LTG Arthur Gregg and LTC Charity Adams, US Army officers. Fort Gregg-Adams is the first base ever named after an African American. Huzzah!

The Latin phrase on the Arlington Confederate Monument? It means that the white South was right. Right about secession, slavery, segregation, and lynching. As I write in ROBERT E LEE AND ME, it’s the cruelest, most anti US monument anywhere.

No. The Confederate Monument at Arlington was never “Reconciliation monument.” That’s a brand new term. It celebrates the end of biracial democracy and the “horror of reconstruction.” It celebrates the triumph of “Anglo-Saxon Civilization.” So racist. Shout out @KevinLevin

"As a soldier, I'm proud that the US Army, my army, defeated the Confederates. In its finest hour, soldiers wearing this blue uniform, 200k of them former slaves themselves, destroyed chattel slavery, freed 4m men, women, and children from human bondage, and saved the USA." 2/5.

#Tuesdaytroll called me a “Marxist Scalawag” who “betrays his roots, history, and General Lee.” Real betrayal is renouncing your sacred oath and killing US Army soldiers to exploit enslaved men, women and children - forever.

Today is #nationalmedalofhonor day. Created in 1862, it features the goddess Minerva striking Discord, the “foul spirit of secession and rebellion” with serpents in his hand. The #MoH is anti-Confederate, anti-traitor! The United States forever!

West Point has no massive Confederate monument despoiling it’s million dollar view because African American activism stopped it. Activism worked then. It’s working now!

The antebellum army paid officers an extra 30% of salary to “support” enslaved servants. That’s right. The US paid Lee to enslave while on admin leave from 1857-60. @pptsapper @KevinLevin @mikejason73.

Tuesday’s Troll is unhappy with .“Robert E. Lee and Me.” Is it because I said Lee chose treason to preserve slavery? Or that Grant, Sherman, Sheridan, and Thomas were such better generals?

It’s Confederate History Month. Reminder: On Christmas Day 1868, Pres Andrew Johnson granted a “full pardon and amnesty for the offense of treason against the U.S.” to all former Confederates. FOR TREASON!

Lee chose treason. 8 US army colonel’s from VA in 1861. 7 stayed with the US. Why did Lee fight to destroy US? His absolute belief in human enslavement. Largest enslaver in the army. Treated enslaved cruelly. Not who I choose to honor.

In 1864, Henry Coppee (West Point Class of 1845) a Georgian and first president of @LehighU wrote about Robert E. Lee’s decision to renounce his oath and fight against his country. “Treason is treason!”

Six years ago, this video (now with 34+ million views) came out & so did the haters. @thenation said I was a propagandist for the army. @starsandstripes said I was too close to a political group. The army investigated me for political speech.1/4.

Today is R Day @WestPoint_USMA. Cadets swear an oath to a magistrate as per a 1861 law to ferret out traitors. in 1861, the penalty for breaking it was execution. Only West Pointers take this oath. No one else. Huzzah to the Union! .Ike's 1911 oath.
