FRIDAY FROM THE ARCHIVES Designed in 1803 by U.S. Capitol architect Benjamin Latrobe, Frank's Island Light marked the Mississippi's entrance until 1856. Despite numerous setbacks, it stood as the Gulf Coast's tallest lighthouse before finally succumbing to subsidence in 2002.

FRIDAY FROM THE ARCHIVES Built between 1955-1961, Pontchartrain Park Historic District was New Orleans' first planned African American suburb. Added to the National Register in 2020, it remains a thriving community that has overcome redlining and Hurricane Katrina.

FRIDAY FROM THE ARCHIVES Built in the 1820s to defend New Orleans, Fort Macomb later housed one of the Union's first all-black regiments during the Civil War. Though closed today, this historic coastal fort lives on through appearances in True Detective and Beyoncé's Lemonade.
