Rashee Rice now has 702 yards from scrimmage.
Rookie wide receivers to go over 700 scrimmage yards under Andy Reid:
DeSean Jackson
Jeremy Maclin
Tyreek Hill
Rashee Rice
Pretty good list to be on.
In response to Jacksonville just narrowly missing on four touchdowns out of the back of the end zone, expect the league to consider adding a yard to opposition end zones, only when playing Kansas City.
The mystery of the
#Chiefs
rapidly declining salary cap space has been solved. It's now down to about $17 million because because Nick Bolton, Creed Humphrey, Noah Gray, and Trey Smith have earned mandatory fourth year raises from the Proven Performance Escalator
Greg Olsen is the best NFL announcer working today but he needed to be better on the Bradberry call. He is responsible for much of this narrative that it wasn’t a legit penalty
As I write a piece for
@ArrowheadPride
about Bieniemy on Josh Gordon all I can think about is how sorry a half dozen teams who passed on him will be if Gordon works out.
@DAonCBS
@obj
The difference is Premier League has to compete with La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, etc for players. They have incentive to look the most invested in player safety. NFL players have no where else to go if they want to make money playing and owners know it
Orlando Brown was drafted in 2018. 68 tackles were drafted in 2019-2021. The only ones you might take over Brown are Rashawn Slater or maybe a Tristan Wirfs move to LT. Maybe Pennei Sewell gets there. That’s it in 3 drafts. You can’t snap your fingers and get a comparable player
The Jets gave Hardman $3.58 million and instantly regretted it. If they had evidence of this happening, he’d have been suspended for conduct detrimental to the team and they’d be trying to recoup his signing bonus.
Numbers are in for Louis Rees-Zammit’s contract with the
#Chiefs
. Three years $2.83 million. Minimum salaries for 2024-26 plus $20K signing bonus. $230K guaranteed salary.
It’s similar to what good UDFAs are getting this year. Means more for the practice squad than the 53 man
#Chiefs
fans. Before reposting bad information, please see this important correction about Rashee Rice and marijuana charges, see this important correction from
@wfaa
to their initial report. It was incorrectly reported as a felony amount.
Crazy stat I just heard.
2015 Broncos (SB Winner and maybe the best D of the last 20 years) 340 points allowed in 19 games.
2023 Chiefs 335 points allowed through 20 games.
Free agent pass rusher Tershawn Wharton is re-signing with the
#Chiefs
on a 1-year, $2.75M fully guaranteed deal, sources tell
@BleacherReport
.
Wharton had 2 sacks, 5 QB hits and a FR last season with Kansas City.
I am fine with KC looking at a TE in the draft but also think we overestimate the stats you should expect from a TE2. Noah Gray literally is among the best backup TEs. His 305 rec yards were the 33rd best for a TE beating starters for the Raiders, Broncos, or the Panthers.
Dave Toub just said Nazeeh Johnson was the best gunner in the league at the end of last season. Probably going to move him to near roster lock for the Chiefs next time I do a projection.
I kind of suspect this is a ploy to get teams to up their offers for Sneed if anyone was acting like KC was going to give a CB1 away to get cap compliant
Patrick Mahomes will be restructuring his contract to create an additional $21.6 million worth of salary-cap space for the Chiefs as they aim to become the first NFL team to three-peat, per league sources.
Looking at four drafts of 48 wide receivers taken between picks 17 and 100 (2018-2021).
16 slam dunk hits - no brainers for big second contracts
13 rosterable depth - prob too nice in a couple cases, but makes it in NFL entire rookie deal
19 pure busts.
Some observations:
Not worried because the Chiefs front office is very smart, but I hope someone learned strong from Brandt Tillis. 2026 cap hits not playing around.
Mahomes: $63.3 million
Jones: $41.1 million
Karlaftis and McDuffie possibly on fifth year options
Crazy fact I realized while doing some research for an
@ArrowheadPride
piece. Since 2018, the Chiefs have not lost to any team that finished worse than 7-9.
Chiefs WR Coach Joe Bleymaier doesn’t get enough credit for how smooth the transition from Tyreek Hill has been and how ready the bench was for tonight
If the Chiefs go into the season with D Smith/J Taylor as their tackle pair, that’s a big upgrade over Brown/Wylie even with Smith’s faults. Smith/Taylor appear owed $24 million in cash combined for 2023. Cin and Wash will pay Brown and Wylie a combined $43.2 million this season
Creed, who has played almost every snap since joining KC, has to have his 24 salary equal to the value of a 2nd round restricted free agent tender. With a huge salary jump, he might be more of an extension candidate than imaged.
Bolton, Gray, and Smith receive smaller raises
Predictions for a busy Chiefs personnel move week before next Monday
Sneed trade to an NFC team for a 2nd and 4th
Jawaan Taylor restructure for $12 million in cap room.
Chris Jones signs a monster deal late in the week.
Drue Tranquil and James Winchester re-sign before FA starts
We have Kansas City’s first use of the 2024 veteran salary benefit. The Chiefs only charge $985K of the $1.125 million salary to the cap plus $167,500
Buggs can earn $1,292,500 with a cap hit of $1,152,500. Prepare to see those numbers a lot as the Chiefs add players
If Veach whiffed on Skyy Moore and hit on Rashee Rice, that’s a really normal success rate at WR draft picks (and better than some teams have done). It looks worse than it is because he hasn’t hit the position hard enough with draft picks.
I have concerns about Xavier Worthy's body holding up in the NFL but Good Lord some people on here haven't moved on from what a starting wide receiver looked like in 1995.
If Remigio is working mainly with Wemtz next week at minicamp, that’s probably a good sign.
If he is mainly on the field with Oladokun or Book for installs, it’s probably time to cool the hype.
Very interested to see what he’s doing
#Chiefs
backup QB Carson Wentz with high praise for WR Nikko Remigio. Said he uncovers well against man coverage: "Lot's of respect for what he's done out there so far."
We are now in the 7th round. Know that teams have already agreed with many of their eventual UDFAs. All UDFAs will sign 3-year deals worth $2.83 million (combined minimum salaries for 2024-26). Don't let that number wow you. Some will get a small signing bonus (continued).
A reminder that less than a year ago, Saints RB Alvin Kamara was under felony indictment for a charge carrying a possible 5 years in prison.
Rice’s situation is serious and he has done a horrible thing but don’t engage with the sensationalist accounts on this.
For the he’s too injury prone crowd, Jerick McKinnon went 964 days between his final game with the Vikings and (finally) playing his first game with the 49ers at age 28. Let’s let actual team doctors decide on the 25-year old Dobbins.
I think Spags is why Veach hasn't invested more in DT because no matter what DT you have next to 95, he's getting pulled on passing downs for a 3rd EDGE to move inside
I'm sure Veach's perspective is why use premium resources to a guy the coaches won't give a >40% snap count
People keep saying that Veach didn’t address DT, but the team is fine there. Jones, Wharton, Nnadi, Pennel, Farrell, Buggs and the UDFA from FSU is plenty of tackle options.
Guessing these are the last actual Chiefs roster decisions for Thurs:
WR6 Fountain/Coleman
DB10 Lammons/N Johnson
Backup MIKE Carter/Harris
Swing T Christian/PTW/waiver wire
DL depth Saunders/Shelton/Stallworth/Kaindoh/Herring (3 spots)
If these are your ?’s, things are good
With L’Jarius Sneed’s $19.8M franchise tag going off Kansas City’s books, they have more flexibility to potentially re-sign free agents such as Mike Danna and Donovan Smith.
The NFL announced today that the 2024 Salary Cap will be $255.4 million per club, with an additional $74 million per club payment for player benefits, which includes Performance Based Pay and benefits for retired players.
Looks to me like the
#Chiefs
traded a 6th round pick to pay Neil Farrell a non guaranteed $870K salary over a $1.165 million salary to Danny Shelton that becomes guaranteed Week One. Farrell also comes with two more years of cheap control.
Something big that will go unnoticed after a huge game all around. Donovan Smith missed three snaps. Instead of sliding Thuney over and putting Allegretti in at LG, the Chiefs put Wanya Morris in at LT. Good to see the rookie get called in over Niang or shuffling the line
Nazeeh was the fourth to last pick of the draft and played >50% of special teams snaps in the playoffs. If he never develops into more than a Chris Lammons, that is a win for pick
#259
.
Obviously haven't seen the Jones numbers but here are my guesses....
Guessing his base salary is reduced to $1.165 and the remaining $17.2 million he'd be owed after not playing week one is turned into a signing bonus. Won't be shocked if there's a slight raise to cover fines
Free-agent RB JK Dobbins is currently in Kansas City on a visit with the Chiefs per his agency LAA Sports & Entertainment
The former Ravens starting running back “is expected to have a home very soon.”
The
#Chiefs
' contract for JuJu 2 years ago required a special situation to where a player could earn a ton of money via NLTBE incentives while carrying a tiny cap hit. I'm not sure how interested the Chiefs will be, but it would be really easy to make a similar deal for Williams
If Chiefs fans want to get really mad after watching so many flags thrown on our defense, tune in to watch what the Bengals keep getting away with against the Bucs.
From the NFL's official transactions report: Chiefs promote CB Ekow Boye-Doe to the active roster. They also officially waived WR John Ross from the reserve/retired list.
Final line on the
#Chiefs
defense: 357 points allowed in 21 games. That’s 17 ppg. Mahomes’ 4Q and OT will probably keep them from getting credit for how historically great they were. 15 will probably never be paired with a D this good again.
Ok. Mahomes was hurt from the week before. Toney lost a TD on a borderline call. A terrible int by Burrow is nullified by penalty. Mahomes gifts the Bengals an awful fumble in KC territory. KC loses their best DB in Sneed and three receivers to injury. But yeah, Boyd’s injury
As a Type 1 Diabetic, I find it insulting to say think a trained medical staff much more able to afford supplies than I am could not work with the disease.
Chiefs are already managing T1D with Noah Gray. This is a non issue and whoever is leaking it about Mitchell has an agenda
Turns out I predicted wrong and Jones doesn’t have a void year, meaning KC will need cap space ASAP. Expect at least two of Kelce, Thuney, and Justin Reid to be restructured this week.
@Kcchiefs58dt
@shegone03
@MLB
Or…just hear me out…they could make it easier for in market fans to watch their local team without a bloated cable package no one buys anymore
Irv Smith is the kind of signing where we probably need to see if he actually makes the team. The Chiefs are not bypassing a TE they like in the draft because of Smith.
It could be a good signing and he’s only 25. We are also the fans that got excited about Ricky Seals Jones
Anyway, this is the reason KC's cap space started dropping from about $28 million to about $17 million starting with the NFLPA's figure earlier this week.
Probably the number we should start figuring the Chiefs cap on.
Chiefs are meeting with Christian Watson. Given how raw the player is and the likely high draft position, I think you have take that extra time with him before putting his name in the card.
@ChiefsInsider
Think we have some confusion about Tunsil’s value. There’s no way he’s traded without at least one first involved. And a team that trades for him will work out an extension ahead of time
@Matty_KCSN
That’s an insane amount of third and longs to give up. My biggest concern is that right now Bolton and Gay look like the best part of the defense and I’m not sure the Spags system is the right one to get the best out of them
The Proven Performance Escalator has not been a big deal for KC because, if you recall, their draft classes before 2021 had been pretty meh outside of one Patrick Mahomes. Only players draft after round one can qualify apparently.
Through 16 games, the
#Chiefs
Rashee Rice (938) has more receiving yards than every WR drafted ahead of him.
J. Smith-Ngigba 614
Q. Johnston 414
Z. Flowers 858
J. Addison 854
J. Mingo 418
J. Reed 681
Only rookie WR to outproduce rice is Puka Nacua
Chris Jones has withstood this to get to the point where he legitimately does have leverage. Because the Chiefs don’t have enough cap room to finalize the roster two weeks from now and sign a practice squad. Without a Jones extension, the options for cap room are unappealing.
If neither McConkey nor Worthy are available at 32, that probably means 7 or 8 WR's are off the board. And it doesn't matter how big a need is, you don't take the 8th or 9th at any position in the first.
If that many WRs go, there will be much better value somewhere else
I have a hard time believing one of Ladd McConkey or Xavier Worthy won't be there for the Chiefs at 32. And if both aren't, someone else we aren't expecting to is there.
Not saying they'll draft one of them for sure, just that I think the option will present itself.
Apparently the NFL does not think as much of the 194st pick of the weakest draft in recent memory as the X accounts of Chiefs Kingdom do.
Hope he is back because he seems like a really good guy, but the overreactions of cutting him were just something else.
Former
#Chiefs
DT Keondre Coburn has cleared waivers. He's free to sign with whatever team he so chooses, either on the 53-man roster or the practice squad.
When doing your Chiefs mocks, Wharton and now Omenihu should probably take smaller DTs off the board. If you are wanting to mock a DT to the Chiefs, they need a bulky one-tech to fill out the room.
Thrilled he’s back with the
#Chiefs
three-peat on the line, but rookie Kamal Hadden describing his first impressions of Dave Merritt make you wonder why is that man not heading up his own defense somewhere already?
@ArrowheadLive
Clyde pick doesn’t look good but Chiefs fans crazy wanted Patrick Queen and Cesar Ruiz who have been just as bad. Lots of teams wish they had themselves some Tee Higgins.
The
#Chiefs
still have the off the cap $1.45 million 4-year qualifier amount available (payable on top of a league minimum salary). Eligible remaining players are Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Derrick Nnadi, Mike Danna, and Turk Wharton. Not sure KC uses it this year.
The following
#Chiefs
are officially unrestricted free agents as of the start of the new league year:
DE Mike Danna
QB Blaine Gabbert
WR Richie James
RB Jerick McKinnon
DT Derrick Nnadi
S Mike Edwards
LT Donovan Smith
WR Mecole Hardman
RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire
DT Tershawn
Given how well the Chiefs have drafted, this is not going to be the last time Veach uses the tag to get a modest trade return to at least beat a comp pick
@MitchSchwartz71
I love that you are still repping Chiefs Kingdom 71. We all hope you are feeling good. It’s got to be the line. Also looking to see what they do with Hill and Hardman on the field together.
Probably not huge but interesting. The
#Chiefs
appear to have given QB Chris Oladokun a $10K bonus and guaranteed $125K salary on his reserve/future contract per OTC
Still guessing a high bar to clear to be Mahomes’ primary backup but aggressive move by KC to keep him in house
@ShrineBowl
West practice notes.
#Chiefs
fans scouting weapons for Patrick Mahomes should be following this side. Virginia WR Malik Washington hauled in a deep pass and held on through tight coverage. He also elevated his 5’8 self to bring in a high throw in team
It's insane to say with such a stacked roster, but I can see the Chiefs having 4 UDFAs make the 53-man. Jacobs and Lovett have a good chance. I also think one of the UDFA RBs could stick and that Ryan Rehkow unseats Matt Araiza.
The Chiefs opted not to draft a DT or LB and still got projected mid-round round prospects in Fabien Lovett (
@fabo_54
) and Curtis Jacobs (
@CurtisUpNext23
)…Brett Veach is an absolute menace to society😂
KC might want to set some 2025 cap space aside because Pacheco and Jaylen Watson have already earned a fourth year raise, and Chenal, Williams, and Cook probably will with normal projected seasons.
It’s the unofficial Alex Smith Super Bowl. Smith was drafted No. 1 overall by the 49ers, traded to the Chiefs, and spent time mentoring Patrick Mahomes before moving back to the Bay Area. And Smith thinks the 49ers’ defense is in trouble.

I wrote about why Irv Smith, Derrick Nnadi, Mike Pennel, and Deon Bush are not roster locks with how the Chiefs have structured contracts this offseason
