I'm not one to usually take a shot at any of my fellow AP voters, but the dude who covers Kansas for the Kansas City Star voted Kansas ahead of Baylor 48 hours after he watched Baylor beat the brakes off Kansas at Kansas. That's the vote that kept the Bears from No. 1 this week.
I’m just saying: there are conservatively at least two dozen other West Virginia high school girls basketball coaches I’d pick for governor before Jim Justice.
Alabama coach Nick Saban on the recently announced Bama-WVU football series: "West Virginia is annually one of the best teams in the nation and we believe playing this kind of competition only makes our team better, while providing a lot of excitement for both fan bases."
My dad OD'd and died on the pills they gave him after he wrecked his back working in a coal mine so come say this stuff in front of me, my sister and my brother Mr. Drug Firm Executive I dare you.
I asked Coach Huff if the squirrel is a walk-on or if there is a scholarship available.
Huff said he's not sure if it will play offense or defense but he liked what he saw out there today.
Neal Brown reached out with kind words when I got laid off, which is more than I can say about several colleagues who I thought were my friends. If Neal is out at WVU, I hope he lands in a good spot and thrives.
Ok, so let’s talk about my favorite and most confusing game of this past year. Carnegie Mellon absolutely drubs Thiel at home.
But let’s look at the stats.
Huff says Herd won't wear pink for Breast Cancer Awareness. All Marshall players will donate one dollar each week from their per diem, and Huff will match and double that amount. "That's more important than running out with pink socks on."
Was gonna stay out of the “don’t send awful shit to athletes when you’re mad they lost” thing but Derek Culver was on IG last night threatening to knock the Sonic rings out of anyone who wants to say it to his face. I’m begging someone to step to him and say it to his face now.
I’m getting out of the journalism game. I go to the beach next week then start a non-news job full time when I get back. We had a good run and I don’t have the space here to thank everyone, but I love a lot of y’all for supporting my career covering sports for more than a decade.
On the Charles Huff presser - he says Deion Sanders contacted a transfer yesterday who is already on campus at Marshall and tried to talk him into coming to Colorado. Didn’t name the player, who Huff said is staying at MU
Huff also said every Marshall player was certified academically eligible for the bowl game. Said he was told it was the first time Marshall has had *every* player on the roster make grades for the bowl game.
fwiw when I got fired Neal Brown reached out with some kind words - which is more than I can say for some former colleagues I used to think were my friends. It’s a rotten business, but I really appreciated NB checking in on me.
Marshall won the Myrtle Beach Bowl so that belongs to them now. Sorry WVU fans you gotta go to Virginia Beach or Ocean City instead this summer thems the rules
BREAKING: Marshall has announced it has told Conference USA the school will leave the league on June 30 and will not participate as a C-USA school for 2022-2023
Huggins: "We've had guys who have led us. Guys who when somebody starts bitching in the locker room they tell them, 'Shut the hell up before I slap you.' That's the way it's supposed to be. Your upperclassmen are supposed to lead -- they're supposed to lead in a positive way."
Texas Tech coach Chris Beard on

after the Mountaineers' upset of the Red Raiders tonight: "I think this is one of the hottest teams in college basketball. It wouldn't surprise me if they won this tournament."
Spent about 15 minutes chatting with new Marshall football coach Charles Huff and I have two scoops: 1) His Tudors order was b/e/c but he wants to expand and try more. 2) He is an old-school wrestling fan and plans to zipline into the Joan wearing Sting facepaint for the opener.
#WVU
coach Neal Brown on freshman Graeson Maleshevich from Spring Valley High: "Talk about somebody that has really turned a lot of heads for our players this summer. He came in and worked hard. One of the top players in the state of West Virginia last year, and you can see it."
More Huggins, this time on Iowa State's high shooting percentage against WVU: "No knock on them, but everybody shoots a high percentage against us. We suck. They're good."
Aramis Ramirez was super underrated and one of the most clutch Cubs of my lifetime. Also the only Cubs jersey I’ve ever owned. Instant RT any time this clips hits the TL
Hey Herd fans! I've been sitting on this for a while but all the paperwork is signed now so I'm putting it out there: starting soon I will be the publisher of a currently unnamed Marshall
@247Sports
team site. I'll get y'all some more details when I have them.
Sun Belt Conference just announced it will officially reinstate men's soccer and be a nine-team league:
Marshall, ODU, James Madison, Coastal, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Kentucky, South Carolina and West Virginia
Marshall receiver and Florida native Willie Johnson just said he expects more than 50 family members and friends at the game Saturday at Florida Atlantic. He is going to have his own cheering section.
New rule: if Marshall wins the national title and West Virginia becomes the epicenter of American soccer all USA-Mexico games must be played at Coonskin from now on.
Appalachian Power Park is now Go-Mart Ballpark. You’re probably going to get harassed in the parking lot, the hot dogs are old and the fountain soda machine only works half the time. Good match of brand and vibes.
McKneely is the best WV high school basketball player I've seen since... ? OJ Mayo? That doesn't feel like the right answer but I'm drawing a blank on who else makes that list right now.
Also worth pointing out -- the D1 and D2 preseason No. 1 teams in the country are both from West Virginia -- Marshall in D1 and the University of Charleston in D2. Really cool time to be a soccer fan in the Mountain State.
I asked Coach Huff if the squirrel is a walk-on or if there is a scholarship available.
Huff said he's not sure if it will play offense or defense but he liked what he saw out there today.
Digging into the Marshall vs. C-USA lawsuit this evening and this may come as a shock to some of you, but it appears C-USA has been sloppy with its bylaws and previous enforcement of those bylaws.
I asked
#WVU
coach Neal Brown about the decision to take a knee on the Mountaineers' final extra point attempt Saturday. The answer is about what we expected, but it is still kind of refreshing to hear a college football coach preaching analytics.
I asked Bob Huggins for an update on Emmitt Matthews after his hard fall last time out: "He's fine. Whatever happened, he's making shots [in practice] again, so I think the next time he starts missing shots I might tackle him because he's shooting really good again. "

“I’m not happy with anything on offense other than the fact that we won.” - Huff coming in hot after the Herd’s win tonight. He also apologized to fans, students and alumni for sloppy game, especially early on.
Cool thing happening today: I'll be tagging along with
@CoachHuff
and some of the Marshall staff as they hit a few of the local high schools to get a first-hand look at how they handle local recruiting and check in on some signed players.
United Soccer Coaches poll: Marshall drops to No. 10 this week and hide your eyes Herd fans, WVU has moved up from unranked to No. 5. That game in Huntington is gonna be rowdy.
Shared this news other places but I know a lot of yall loved him too. Lenny died unexpectedly last night. He went peacefully at the emergency vet. He was so good and the sweetest dog and I have been pacing my house sobbing on and off since last night. Hug your friends. Love yall.
This is not usually where opposing bands sit at
#WVU
, so this feels a little like payback for stuffing the Mountaineer band in the upper deck at DKR last season:
