Great q by @DPagliaccio at the dev cohort study discussion on how the landscape of big data has shifted the expectations of reviewers which disadvantages jr scientists. Deanna Barch responds with a call to arms for reviewers to dev more appropriate expectations 👏🏻 #acnp2022

Extremely proud of our latest TIGER study in Trans Psych: We compared depressed teens w and wo Hx of self-harm w CTL on rsfMRI networks. Lower coherence of ventral DMN is associated w SI while lower coherence in insular-somatosensory SN is associated NSSI

This study found that Dutch male & female profs don’t differ in their external service but do in their internal service (75% women, 25% men)! Several male profs also said they “actively didn’t respond to emails, or acted in an exaggerated disorganised manner” to avoid service.

A study on what many of us already know: over 75% of internal service work in academia is done by women. “We were surprised by how brazenly the male researchers described their priorities, for example that they actively didn’t respond to emails”

IF can be gamed. I cite more papers from NPP than I probably do from Nature, Science, and Cell combined. Everyone I know in the field of biological psychiatry would be thrilled to publish in NPP. As a reviewer, I’ve loved seeing the rigorous science. Support society journals!!!

I feel that this is a damned if you do, damned if you don't post, but hey I'm having a crappy day anyway, so flame away. In the spirit of transparency and not being a hypocrite we wanted to announce that our impact factor for @npp_journal declined year over year to a 7.6

Celebrating a successful @NIMHgov CREST visit! We prepared for months for this but are genuinely thankful for the support by this program in executing our mechanistic R01 based on good clinical practice 🫡

Very appreciative of the advice by @russpoldrack in running a lab! He recommends aiming for inbox zero and even spending a few minutes a day cleaning your desk. Messiness and disorganization can and often represent a point of friction that prevents workflow optimization…

Excited to emerge from the hurricane & share one of my favorite papers yet! We argue biobehavioral and environmental processes in the etiology of psychopathology can be integrated via interpersonal dynamics; this is a much-needed way to bring the environment into the #RDoC matrix

Going on the job market last year was one of the most rewarding yet challenging things I’ve had to do as an introverted and illness-prone academic. Remember that there are factors behind your control and to celebrate putting yourself out there—regardless of the outcome!

I’m on a search committee this year, and we just rejected some amazing candidates for our faculty position. Important PSA: it's not personal. A rejection is (truly!) not a referendum on you or your skills/qualifications. More often than not, the decision comes down to fit. 1/

Relieved but not satisfied. Justice demands change. The outcome of a single trial is a step toward change, but it is not an upheaval of a system that needs to be dismantled.
