The CFPB is a partisan organization that forces banks and other lenders to implement liberal programs. It operates outside Congressional oversight and performs many functions unrelated to its original mission. Those functions needed to protect consumers can be transferred to other existing departments.

I agree. But I don't think that will solve the entire issue. In many cases, funding NGOs is a way for government entities to conduct activities that they are explicitly or ethically prohibited from doing. We need to make it illegal for an NGO to use govt funds to perform activities the government is prohibited (legally or ethically) from conducting.

A decision to continue SLS involves so much money that won't be made by anyone other than Trump -- and he tactics like this just will piss him off. I know some will say that Congress can earmark funds specifically for this. True. But Trump has a lot of influence -- and veto power. Trump is on a mission to balance the budget -- and SLS will likely get the axe. And Boeing is smart enough to read the tea leaves.

I believe that many liberal elitists are narcissists who aren't capable of admitting when they are wrong. Narcissists react with rage or contempt to any critique, even if it's constructive, because it threatens their self-image. @NASA8500 Cancelling SLS will be to some degree symbolic because much of the cost has already been spent. However, it stops the bleeding from excessive SLS operating costs. More importantly, it will mark the end of an era of slow-progress, unjustifiably-expensive, NASA programs.

I believe Trump is looking to force an issue like this through the court system to get a ruling on an issue like this where Congress has passed laws limiting the authority of the Executive Branch. If SCOTUS rules in Trump's favor, a significant number of laws will be null and void.
