WHY I MADE THE DESISION TO BECOME A SEVENTH DAY ADVENTST There are several reasons, but I want to just hit the main reasons. A little about me first: I grew up in a Catholic home, going to a Catholic school, Catholic church, etc. While we were not hard core Catholic we were influenced heavily by the church. At a young age I started to see inconsistencies in the church and between the Catholic faith and the Bible. I started to ask questions. These questions were met with the typical "Stop reading the Bible. You don't understand it" or "You wouldn't understand the answer" or (and this one is my favorite) "Do not question the ways of the church". I thought it was because I was young that they did not want to discuss these things with me, but as I got older, I kept getting the same answers. Sometimes, these questions were met with hostility. When my father passed away, more questions came, along with more contradictions and more non-answers. The final straw was when the Catholic church harassed my mother after his funeral. They kept telling her he was in purgatory and would remain there unless she paid them $1200 to pray him out. Of course this didn't sit well with me because by this time I my life, I KNEW purgatory didn't exist. I spent a lot of time within the Catholic church but after this, I finally left. I wandered the great plains of religion for quite some time. I studied Scripture deeply and found much truth that lies so plainly in His Word. I bounced from church to church to find one that not only taught Scripture from the Bible, but also shared in the beliefs that I have come to understand as the truth. I found none. I would spend great lengths of time not going to church and just studying at home. Then one day I was exposed to the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Not knowing anything about them, I did much research on them as well. Finally, after a few years of dragging my feet, I finally officially became an SDA member. "Why" you may ask...Well, to tell you the truth, the more I searched for the truth and the more I researched the Church, the more I found that they spoke the truth. No other church I had studied with holds the biblical truth that the SDA Church does. What people say about the Church, say about me or say about my faith does not matter. All that matters is the truth of Scripture. I find most people only go to church for social reasons. I also found that those who seem to seek the truth, find reason in the philosophy of man more palatable than to realize that in order to truly follow Christ, we MUST make changes in our lives. I had no problem doing this. It wasn't always easy, but I knew God was more important than this world. Regardless of anything that I was told all that really mattered was the truth, no matter where it led me... The truth led me to the Seventh Day Adventist faith.

Do you believe that Scripture contradicts itself? I gave you clear Scripture that tells us to keep the commandments of God, all of them, which includes the Sabbath. Your response is to quote additional Scripture without comment, nor context. The quote ACTUALLY says: Colossians 2:16-17 [16] So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or SABBATHS, [17] which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. "Sabbaths" - plural. This is specifically speaking about feast sabbaths not the weekly Sabbath. It also says "a shadow of things to come". This 'shadow' points towards Jesus, who, with His sacrifice on the cross, made void the sacrificial system which included the ceremonial sabbaths, not the weekly Sabbath or God's Holy Law. If you read the entire chapter for context you will see this in context. Do not use a translation that changes His Word. To contrast this, Paul also says: Romans 2:12-13 [12] For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law [13] (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified; Romans 3:20 [20] Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin. Romans 7:7 [7] What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.” Jesus says: John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments." Matt 5:18 "For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled" Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. Matt 22:37-40 "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, & with all your mind.’ This is the first & great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself' On these two commandments HANG ALL THE LAW & the prophets” Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. So, as you can see, Jesus AND the apostles all kept the Sabbath and the other 9 commandments.
