Achieved 12/31/2022, this was my last record of the year. It's Sheik/Zelda's PAL record, IE best global score done on the PAL version. tbh this is a bit of a hacked together strat, I think 228 or 229% is probably possible despite PAL's huge backwall nerf.

It’s surprising to see Tier Zoo miss the mark on why people are drawn to Melee in the first place over Ultimate.
Melee has such tight controls and is super responsive that going to a game with 6 frames of input lag and a million buffer frames it feels like fighting in molasses.
No shade at the devs, I assume this happens precisely because the devs are passionate melee fans themselves. But it is a way smaller and pickier fanbase than you realize. I mean, these are people who chose to play Melee over Smash Ultimate, one of the biggest and most polished

Crazy that one of the best most responsive online experiences is for a 2001 GameCube game and the time from boot up to getting shield grabbed is less than 30 seconds.
It honestly makes me kind of sad that "time from boot-up to gameplay" has only gotten worse over the years.
Obviously Strive is an outlier but in games in general, it takes much much longer to actually play the game than it used to. Even in MvC3 vs MvC2 i found this annoying.

I play Ultimate and either moves don’t happen or the buffer system throws out a move from an input I did half a second ago. No thanks. Ultimate is still one of the best games ever made as a whole but something I want to compete in it falls short for glaring reasons.

Curious on your thoughts on combos in regards to Melee. I love most fighting games but the thing that Melee does that no other game I think comes close is how even during combos, you are constantly interacting and dynamically changing combos. Between %, DI, SDI, etc.

Ultimate on paper is the greatest game ever but when I pick up a controller and press buttons in Melee it FEELS better and sometimes that’s all a game needs. People like to *play* videogames and the *play* part has to be sharp.

Myself, Mike G, Yeroc, GA Wes, and Voodoo. All of us started Melee 2003 or earlier.

Took me a long time to realize why I hated the first half and loved the second half of this song.
Playing HRC, the first half was the sound of failure (another reset) and the second half was the sound of victory (nailing the strat and watching sandbag go)

When Mario capes Peach she literally just gains height OR she goes into tumble which allows her to ledge tech and get an up b to ledge for free while Mario is still putting the cape away.
Also saying the invincibility doesn’t matter off stage is actually insane.
