I never had an issue sharing space with post-op trans women and did so in the 1990's and 2000's. Then came the trans woman are women crowd and suddenly every man in lipstick demanded to be in women's spaces, and it became a cover for misogamy and predatory behavior.

I worked with the local AIDS Foundation in the late 80's and I worked primarily with transsexuals because a lot of gay men wouldn't.
That being said, they were extremely rare and not part of the gay movement as a whole. They didn't win rights for anyone.

DNA was never brought up in the original trial. The knife was tested 16 years after the murder after it had been touched by investigators and prosecutor.
Lack of DNA has no bearing on the case that was originally presented, and contamination doesn't point to another suspect.
