One of the best players in the NHL, along with his brother, were killed by a drunk driver. Two who were by all accounts, great human beings. The news broke well before your airtime and you couldn’t even bother to mention them. You were all over this, though. We know why.

I cannot express this enough. This trophy is particularly hard to win as a defenseman, especially one as effective as Slavin despite his limited physicality. He’s literally the best shutdown defenseman right now and will be amongst the all time greats in that category.

1. The officiating is not the biggest reason the Canes lost and actually is near the bottom of the list
