Survey update... So far, we have n=127 responses on the survey 1.0.
I have done an extensive review of the data (37 pages) and a short (9-page) summary... but now.... I have to wait to share the data because it may be published, which is good news!
Anyone have contacts in the

The first version (with graphs is 40 pages long!).
We will try to do a condensed, easy-to-understand summary.
"pre-exposure to nicotine decreased the likelihood of SARS-CoV-2 RNA expression and pathology in the brain. These results suggest mechanisms involving targets of nicotine could be leveraged to prevent the neurovirulence of SARS-CoV-2."
"We found that nicotine exposure delays and dramatically attenuates CNS inflammation and autoimmune responsiveness to myelin Ags, suggesting several novel mechanisms of neuroimmune interaction."

Low-dose nicotine patches are not a magic pill, but many people increase their baselines and improve their quality of life. Every little bit helps.
For some, it is that missing piece of the puzzle to heal.

I've been doing
#TheNicotineTest
(via 7mg patches) for a month now & it has greatly improved my quality of life.
Major caveat: I'm on ivabradine. The nicotine increases heart rate, & I wouldn't recommend to anyone w POTS who isn't on beta-blockers or ivabradine.

There is a recent study where they tested for "3 boring metabolites" related to lactate, glucose and insulin and found a higher correlation with dementia than amyloid beta. It was found by an algorithm. Researchers admitted never thinking of looking at those.

Remember to pace for a few weeks after...even if you feel well.
The nicotine patch during infection is clearly beneficial. Nobody has reported otherwise...yet.
IMO, it is the reduction in neuroinflammation that comes from a tampered immune response.

1. This treatment for neurological issues is not new.
2. When nicotine is truly understood to be different than smoking, then the benefits will be much clearer.
3. It will take time for science to separate fact from fiction.

Each time a researcher comes out with this kind of information... then says, "don't try this at home"...that is irresponsible (in my opinion). There should be clear safety information (risks, dosages they will test, etc) because

Are there any health benefits from nicotine?
Decades of research, often using nicotine patches, show there are. Old-school tobacco control "experts" are VERY uncomfortable with this evendence, so never talk about it.
@StevePhillipsMD
We have been researching and collecting patient stories since May.
So far
@TheNicotineTest
survey (n=160+) is showing very positive results.
And we are planning a formal trial.
#TheNicotineTest
Most benefit from the patches, but even those that do not learn something.
And with patient-led research, even data from "failure" is useful for the tribe as a whole.
Each time we fail with an experiment, that failure is a useful data point.
That data point will bring us forward in our healing journey.
Go forth and fail, fail, fail.
Until you succeed.
