In my debut for
@SwishTheory
, I looked at everything Hartenstein brings to OKC that makes them so much more versatile as a team, and also how the team may look to integrate him scheme-wise including a look at Delay, 4.5 Out, and 5 Slot alignments.
Check it out! ⬇️⬇️⬇️
The biggest FA signing in franchise history, Isaiah Hartenstein has the skills to take the Oklahoma City Thunder to championship contention.
@TheFlarescreen
breaks down how iHart's versatility opens up new scheme and lineup flexibility where the Thunder previously fell short.
Jalen Williams was THE standout rookie in preseason action: 14.4 PTS and 5.2 AST (led all rookies) on 61.0% FG in 26 minutes a night.
One of the most versatile players I’ve seen in a while: He can run PnRs, Iso, flow into DHOs, come off screens, cut; dribble/pass/shoot 6’6 PG.
Who gets hard doubled the most this season? Leaders in double team possessions per game:
1. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (17.8)
2. Giannis Antetokounmpo (16.3)
3. Luka Doncic (16.3)
4. Ja Morant (15.9)
5. James Harden (15.7)

Chet dominated the paint on defense in his 5 Summer League games, as he’s averaged nearly 3 blocks in 26 minutes a night and has held teams to *12.7%* worse shooting in the paint when he’s on the court.
Shot profiles at the rim have also differed vastly when he’s playing.
Chet Holmgren talking about tweaking his jumpshot over the offseason to improve 3PT shot versatility (potentially hinting at a quicker release):
“I shot 37% last year on 4-something attempts… [but] in order to expand the variety of shots that I can take and be effective with…
If Josh Giddey plays in and averages at least 5.95 AST in all 49 of OKC’s remaining games, he will surpass Lebron James as the youngest player to record 500+ assists.
He’s currently averaging 6.3 a night on the season.
oh aight if we just cherry picking stats then only rookies to average 12/7/6:
Ben Simmons
Magic Johnson
Oscar Robertson
Josh Giddey
all of them won ROY except Giddey 🤔
Top 5 lowest Assist Conversion Rates among players (Min. 250 assists):

2. J. Brunson: 46.9%
3. A. Edwards: 47.4%
4. J. Tatum: 49.2%
5. D. Green: 49.9%
Left is last season, Right is his lone 3PA from tonight.
The shot looks identical in-game. There’s no need to make those shots in warmup a bigger deal than it actually is.
According to
@ShamsCharania
, Lebron will be playing the 4 and AD the 5 in starting and closing lineups. This will fully open up their games to the best they can possibly be (Thread).
Ousmane Dieng had a career night tonight. An efficient 15 points in 19 minutes while also flashing his incredible defensive potential.
Definitely the best game of his young NBA career thus far, OKC couldn’t have pulled out the win tonight without his contributions. ⬇️

News broke out today of the “Shot Doctor” Chip Engelland leaving San Antonio’s assistant coaching position for the Oklahoma City Thunder’s.
So, here are some graphs of the amazing work he’s done with some of the Spurs’ top young players over the years. NBA’s best shot trainer.
Luka Doncic last season: 52.5% eFG on 5.3 Stepback FGA/G including 35.7% 3PT
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander this season: 58.0% eFG on 5.0 Stepback FGA/G including 41.2% 3PT
2nd best stepback in the NBA? 👀
SGA went OFF today for team Canada, showing how effortlessly he can score the ball with 24 points on 11/13 shooting in just 19 minutes. He was fantastic as a driver (1.63 PPP on 8 Drives) and shot creator with his combination of separation and shot making ability. 🔥
@shaiglalex
Jonathan Kuminga tonight:
25 PTS
3 REB
3 AST
3 BLK
10-12 FG
2-4 3PT
He’s now the youngest player to ever score 25 points on 80%+ shooting in NBA history, surpassing notably Dwight Howard and Lamelo Ball.
Jalen Williams has been one of the very best rookies ever since Summer League, preseason, and now during the regular season too. So unique as a 6’6 rookie PG with his poise and versatility.
Last 10 games: 13.2 PTS, 4.1 REB, 2.6 AST, 60.7% TS, 36.0% 3PT in 28 MINS.
@JdubPSCEO
Chet Holmgren tied his 2nd-highest points in a game as the PnR screener with 12 points as the screener vs. Utah. How? By rolling or slipping 5 of his 8 possessions.
Chet is the

Victor Wembanyama in 5 preseason/exhibition games:
23.6 PTS
6.6 REB
3.6 BLK
55/46/86 Splits
69.8% TS

All in just 22 minutes a night against pro teams. Only preseason but the offensive improvements both skill and usage wise + the confidence was remarkable to see.
Shai was a one-man offense last night, creating an incredible 16 open shots for teammates alongside his 31 points.
He single-handedly accounted for a total 63 (57%) of OKC’s 110 points against the Bulls 🔥

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's shot chart tonight: 37 points on 76.5% FG and 11/11 at the line.
Just getting to and finishing at the rim at will, and countering with his elite midrange game when defenders overplay the drive. Unstoppable.
Adrian Wojranowski on ESPN’s Draft Special:

In a time where many rookies are expected to hit a temporary wall, Josh is only getting better.⚡️

Tre Mann showed off elite upside I didn’t think he had tonight as an undersized finisher around the rim. he shot 5/7 on 2s, utilizing shots like floaters and crafty layups along with nice hang time to finish around bigger defenders (after using his great self creation to blow by)
Cam Boozer, arguably the best HS prospect in the world at 15, with an incredibly dominant performance tonight vs. good HS comp. 28 points, 20 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block while draining 3 threes. He was dominant inside-out tonight, and showed some good passing.
Bronny James is a very good NBA prospect. He has a great jumpshot with beautiful form on both C&S and pullups. He’s a solid off-ball mover and a smart, decisive passer. Bronny excels in the open court and has PnR upside.
He’s also a strong PoA defender. Many translatable skills.
New Amen Thompson footage vs. ICG Força Lleida in OTE’s recent Europe tour.
Showing off his ridiculous finishing ability and also looks like he’s taking to the next level.
Yup, Hartenstein’s relocation + DHO ability makes for great secondary plays when the initial drive or action fails. This is what makes sagging off him so hard.
The court mapping + quick processing is unreal here, just move around him and he’ll find you:
This is what Hartenstein could give to OKC offense flow.
His ground cover amount with DHO and relocation ability really release the another valve to Thunder drive game.
And good screen setter at onball/offball (pinin /sealing etc) both area.

Just crazy movements and skill for someone his size and age, truly a special talent.
End of thread.
I'd personally like to thank Josh for all the wonderful moments he's given us in such a short amount of time as a rookie. Easily one of the most entertaining guys we've ever had in OKC, both on and off the court lol. We love you

James Harden’s career season stats in games against Luguentz Dort. His TS dips by an absurd 19.8% (66.4% —> 44.6%) when directly guarded by Lu.
(Data via NBA tracking stats)
Amen Thompson scored 32 points in 42 minutes this weekend — 10/13 on 2s, 2/6 on 3s, and most notably 6/7 on FTs through 2 games.
He’s now 81.8% (27/33) from the line at 6.0 FTA/40 in 9 games this season.
January 31st:
▫️Youngest and quickest player to ever reach 500+ Points, 250+ Rebounds, 250+ Assists
▫️Youngest player to reach 500+ Points, 200+ Rebounds, 200+ Assists in his first 45 games since Lebron James
▫️Most Double Doubles for a rookie in OKC Thunder franchise history
Chet Holmgren not making an all-defensive team might be the most egregious snub this season, there are barely 5 defenders on the planet who can anchor a defense better than him.
been messing around with data vis lately — here’s a visualization of OKC’s positional length that helps them force the most turnovers in the league (16.1 per game).
What about % of possessions double teamed?
1. Giannis Antetokounmpo (35.5%)
2. Joel Embiid (34.1%)
3. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (32.9)
4. Jrue Holiday (29.9%) ?

Brad Stevens being an insanely good NBA coach and then casually quitting his job and becoming the best GM in the NBA isn’t talked about enough, probably easily the most complete basketball mind we’ve ever seen
Subjectively, Brad Stevens is the most COMPLETE basketball mind on the planet. Culture, tactical/technical, innovation, relationships, etc .
Stevens teaching POST DEFENSE:
- straddle the hip
- high hand denial
- get low/leverage on the ball reversal
- on the catch get
One reason Jalen Williams struggled vs. Dallas? They went under + switched on weak screens — won’t be that easy w/Hart.
He creates a wide open PU3 for McBride just from his feel/ability to screen and rescreen. Stuff like this will make life so much easier for Jalen Williams.
Josh Giddey ranks 3rd in ESPN’s ROY power rankings at the All-Star break, behind only Evan Mobley and Cade Cunningham.
He’s also been given a Lamelo Ball player comp 👀
Me and 2 others were interested in the amount of open shots Shai creates per game, so we divided and tracked throughout a 10 game span.
As you can see, he’s doing an incredible job creating for his teammates on a nightly basis. Top 15 playmaker imo. Thoughts?
Victor Wembanyama was impressive today: 14 points, 4/10 FG, 2/4 3PT, 4/6 FT, 5 blocks, 1 steal, 2 deflections in 24 mins.
Great in pick-and-pop (2/3 3PT) & showed post scoring, although needs polish, still extremely skilled. Good passes. Dominant on defense. Generational talent.

This takes into account shot creation, volume, and efficiency. Accurate?

Chet Holmgren was dominant on offense, but especially on defense in his Summer League debut yesterday:
Shots Blocked: 6
Shots Affected/Deterred: 20
26 total shots altered or deterred.
Ant Simons is the real deal. Looked into the reason behind his breakout and how it’s a pathway other young shot creators could follow.
By no surprise, shot creation ➡️ shot making (the most coveted offensive skills in the NBA) were the main contributors.
They’re gonna figure it out eventually and everyone’s gonna say “told you so, and y’all mfs said trade Shai! 😂”
Almost as if 2 PGs, both downhill playmakers and creators, are gonna take more than 50 games to figure out each other.
Lamelo has turned into one of the best 3-point shooters in the league with his combination of volume, accuracy, shot quality, and shot versatility. He’s great on pull-ups, catch and shoots, and transition 3s with or without a defenders contest.
RJ Barrett was 5/6 at the rim and 1/1 on runners last night vs Indiana. He looks less contact-averse and is using his shoulders better on drives.
His 1 miss was when he tried avoiding contact altogether when going up against Myles Turner. Something to look for throughout the RS.
All-Star Break:
12.4 PPG
7.8 RPG
6.4 APG
On pace to join B. Simmons, M. Johnson, and O. Robertson as the only rookies to ever average 10+ PTS, 7+ REB, 6+ AST.
