Bryce Dessner (@bryce_dessner) and I chat about his score for SING SING, including picking a palette that works against expectations, making space for the actors, how the arts can serve as a refuge & plenty more! Link below (or visit your favorite podcast host) @A24 @gregkwedar

“Without John Williams, bikes don't fly, nor do brooms in Quidditch matches, nor do men in red capes. There is no Force. Dinosaurs do not walk the earth. We do not wonder, we do not weep, we do not believe. John, you breathe belief into every film we have made.” - Spielberg

Wishing a happy 93rd birthday to one of the all time greatest film composers, John Williams! Hard to overstate just how many memorable melodies the maestro has made for the movies

@billbria I talked to Grace yesterday and it’s so weird seeing/hearing her in this and then seeing how she is IRL

@ProjectPaladin The score landscape is pretty interesting, I think a lot of mainstream ones can get a bit homogenous & you don’t really have as many big name composers making great scores for schlock movies (like Goldsmith or Morricone), but there’s still a lot of good ones, just gotta dig more

@ProjectPaladin I watched flesh + blood a couple months ago and it made me wish we got a lot more medieval/fantasy scores from him, he was so good at it

This type of stuff is so frustrating because it’s already so hard to get screeners for certain films, especially if you’re indie/not repping a big publication. Just selfish because you can’t wait a little bit or want some immediate cred

There's really no justification for sharing rips from virtual Sundance screenings on social media. There is literally only one possible outcome from you doing so, and it is an outcome that decreases the possibility of Sundance access for everyone, except those who can afford to go in person, in future years. And you can't even try to justify it to yourself with an "I'm sticking it to the big corporation by pirating" argument. These are Sundance movies. They're mostly low-budget indie fare, not big budget assembly line productions from Disney. You're mostly just disrespecting people who quit their day jobs and maxxed out credit cards because they cared about making a movie.

@BrooksEvan39138 From film, maybe Helen’s theme from Candyman. In general, I’d say Koyaanisqaatsi as a whole
