I'm a landlord. I have no idea why rental payments aren't linked to credit history.
It would give tenants a solid base for future mortgage lending to be made, instead of the current system which penalises them.

What's really needed is automatically linking tenant rental payment history to your credit history - so when you want a mortgage - you have sufficient evidence to be able to afford one.
The current system hurts renters imo
