Yep! Due to their history with the stolen generations and the melatonin being forcefully bred out of their bloodlines, we don’t define “blackness/blakness” by skin colour in Australia. It’s about heritage.

When I worked at a movie theatre I had a couple come through trying to see a movie with a whole roast chicken. When I told them they couldn’t go in with it, they sat at one of our tables and ate the whole thing, with their bare hands, before the movie started.

I am using the Oxford dictionary definition. It’s still a slur even if it’s aave. Why should African Americans be allowed to use slurs used against disabled people? Aave is still English at the end of the day. The word spastic dates back over a century as an ableist slur.

People use it as a slur here in Australia and the UK. Nothing to do with aave. Idk why it would be okay to use a slur even if it was aave?

I have had 3 people say it’s okay for her to say it because it’s aave. I’ve even been called racist because I don’t think aave is an excuse to use ableist slurs.
I can understand she if didn’t know because of it’s aave use, she should still apologise and change it.

Even if we disregard the fact that it’s not just women who can get pregnant and therefore need abortions, I have read accounts today of teen boys who have committed suicide after accidentally getting a girl pregnant pre-roe. This doesn’t just effect the pregnant person.

There are people with autism who need medical equipment to prevent them from self harming, people who cannot speak or communicate. There are people who are yes, severely disabled, by their autism. Just because you are not disabled by your autism doesn’t mean others aren’t.

What’s happened there is happening here. Prices are higher then ever. Young people cannot afford rent in major aus cities and landlords are upping prices just cause they can. Vacancy is low which means they can charge whatever they want. We have the same problem as the US.
