Growing up is realising that dark and fucked doesn't automatically equate to good writing. Metamorphosis is entirely misogynistic torture porn to a fetishistic extent and even simple harem and comedic hentais are better. The JoJo ending was the best thing to come out of it.
For the few confused chaps, no I am not talking about the 1915 novella Die Verwandlung (transl. The Metamorphosis) by Franz Kafka. It's a masterpiece and one of my favourite literary works, I wouldn't desecrate it like this.
Lot of people are mentioning points and I cannot address all of them but it is genuinely not that difficult to understand the issue of a comic with long drawn out and gratuitous scenes of gruesome sexual violence committed on a girl constantly over the course of the entire story.
Pseudointellectuals acting smug about technicalities and semantics of definitions to invalidate incorporation of perfectly reasonable inclusions and implying comprehending superiority over others in relation to frivolous topics is unreservedly hilarious.
Themes and Symbolism in One Piece
One Piece while resembling a typical power fantasy superficially, is a story that conveys elements of the human condition through its concepts of willpower, determination, honour.
This is a list of simplest to complex ideas present narratively:
Most of the people who "fall out of love" with series are also the most obnoxious ones who will keep shoving it in your face about how they don't like the series anymore, that they lowered their rating and it not being "Top X" anymore every single opportunity they get.
Some people being so heartless about the Ukraine situation is appalling.
So many offensive and repugnant jokes going around.
A person in a server I'm in was expressing excitement and calling the situation fascinating because they're a historian and life has been "uneventful".
I found out about Berserk in 2009 and got to properly experiencing it in 2012. It has been a huge part of my life and for it to end like this, I am still in disbelief.
Haikyuu: Karasuno Vs Inarizaki
I went into this match with very high expectations but not sure what to anticipate. The effect Atsumu had by changing Kageyama had me curious about his own nature being explored in detail but nothing outside of that.
Safe to say, my expectations -
dont get me wrong i love villain characters!! literally half my faves r villains but i think there should b a line drawn when the villain in question is also… a pedophile
Don't know why this needs to be said, but Johan is a perfectly written character and psychopath, if you think he's unrealistic because of how he manipulates and orchestrates, I'd suggest studying on criminal psychology a bit, and I don't mean it in a condescending fashion.
Forget media literacy, we're descending into an age of despondency of people proudly making ignorant statements. It's one thing to have qualms and dislike the art for how it portrays a sensitive topic, but people are getting too comfortable judging the artist's character from it.
Yukimura saying he didn’t like to draw that Arnheid scene is why i can’t accept the way B*rserk depicts violence against women
It is evil. It is disgusting.
I can’t believe a human being drew so much detailed scenes of women being abused without weighing their conscience
This morning, I was in shock after seeing the news and sensing something wrong, my mother asked me what had happened. Trying to explain the scenario to her, I started sobbing and she was astonished because she hasn't seen me crying in several years.
Naoki Urasawa: The Modern God Of Manga
Acknowledged by many as the reincarnation of Osamu Tezuka, the godfather of manga, the man who pioneered the popularisation of manga, Naoki Urasawa is widely enunciated as the most illustrious manga author of his generation.
Buzzwords or not, this is the reason people don't even try to be sincere or excited about their feelings regards a work anymore and AniTwt has devolved into several layered irony poisoned posting and cringe worthy humour usually revolving around mockery.
It's insane how much of a cultural phenomenon Attack on Titan is and the massive effect it had on anime culture and the community as a whole. 139 will truly mark the end of an era, probably the biggest ending since 2014. Isayama really made an iconic behemoth.
Read Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, for the most brilliant portrayal of institutionalisation of political ideologies, human compartmentalisation, hatred festering, and one of the strongest anti war statements of Tomino's vision brought to life by Yoshikazu's artistic virtuosity.
#AoT139
Gonna try to be as less provocative as possible.
I think the biggest problem with the chapter is that Isayama tried to cramp in too many ideas to the point that not a single of them was executed properly and hence they completely failed to coalesce.
Squid Game is a poor man's Liar Game lmao, no way people are praising this dumb show 😭.
Read Liar Game by Shinobu Kaitani instead, genuinely great and an intricately woven mind game series. Shinichi Akiyama one of the best written "intelligent" characters.
I'm not as big a fan as Gintama as most people here, but I will say that in terms of building up the narrative to it's emotional peak and in providing immense cathartic payoff, Gintama is unmatched.
The fact that this one blemish tarnished the whole manga and the main character's reputation despite majority of it being a masterfully crafted narrative and that one misstep will taint the face of the everything this story stood for is truly saddening.
#Haikyuu
14 year old me arbitrarily scrolling through random seasonals and I decide to check out this volleyball anime with orange haired MC, thinking that I'll study up on volleyball rules if I find Episode 1 engaging.
7 years later, my Haikyuu expedition has come to a close.
#AoT137
I'm aware that the TL is oversaturated by AoT discourse and I don't want to add to it unnecessarily, but I wanted to share my twopence on why I consider this to be the worst chapter of the series and why it ruined what I loved about the series.
You're free to disagree.
Sonny Boy Episode 8 was breathtaking, the series' art direction has been top notch from the beginning but this episode elevated it to another level. Undoubtedly the most visually remarkable TV anime in years.
1. Monster is one of the most emotionally cathartic anime and several episodes are dedicated to raw human realism and emotions with its message being love and forgiveness can prevent creation of monsters.
2. Vagabond's philosophy is literally introspection and soul searching.
Irrespective of how bad people feel the actual ending is and how much better the fanmade one is (it isn't in AoT's case), it should remain exactly that, a fanfiction. Trying to pass it off as a replacement for the original work by the author is immensely disrespectful to writers.
I thought we left this back in 2020.
"Quitting" two whole mediums just because you reached a certain age is just so wild.
Animation and comics are two genuine forms of art, people need to get over their hidden insecurities about loving them and phrasing in a disguised manner.
I've followed AoT manga for 8 years, no matter how the chapter is, the takeaway experience is very positive, so I'm happy anyway 😤
I haven't read the leaks, reading the final chapter blind>>
What the hell man... What did I wake up to... I am utterly shocked and devastated by this news, I grew up in admiration of this man's work... I can't remember the last time I shed tears to a news...
Rest in peace, Kentaro Miura sensei.
MadHouse would be the best Anime studio solely from their 2000s catalogue, but not only that, they've been consistently putting out multiple great anime every decade since its inception in 1972, with a number of them being some of the most influential works in the medium.
Underwhelming
The animation looks fluid and clean, but the muted and trite colour palette gives a dull appearance. CSM would have benefited from a more flamboyant approach with vibrant colours and an iridescent visual style.
Still, doesn't look bad, hope it is meritorious.
The Joker: One Bad Day
Joker is arguably the most iconic villain in superhero history. People recognise him as a homicidal psychopath, a representation of anarchy, someone who understands the true nature of Gotham. He is reckoned as a force of nature, the antithesis to Batman.
Despite how often I poke at MCU, 2018 Thanos will always be one of the greatest antagonists in cinema. Crafting such an organic and well characterised anti villain with a theoretically heroic goal and strongly empathetic actions despite them being outright flagitious is laudable.
Not do what makes entertainment and media the most fun? Why would I willingly suck the joy out of experiencing art 😭? Analysing everything, thinking about it deeply and noticing a lot of little things that makes you appreciate the works more is the true way to go.
#Haikyuu
Finished the Nekoma match and it was a marvelous game of volleyball not only from a technical standpoint but the culmination of years of rivalry with each team exhibiting its strengths to the fullest and the ending being anticlimactic yet endearing was felicitous.
People crediting solely Blue Lock for Japan's win is hilarious because the Japanese team used the exact sentiment BL dismisses 😭. Also a bit sad how BL has become the equivalent of the sport wrt Japan with no mention of classics like Captain Tsubasa, Inazuma Eleven and Kickers.
Thematically profound and artistically rich, Sonny Boy was a brilliant reminder of the immense potential of animation as a storytelling medium. Natsumi Shingo weaves an unusual narrative style to convey a plethora of concepts with inexhaustible visual creativity.
Imagine starting your series with the MC fucking a girl who turns into a demon and thinks she's trapped the MC but in turn, he BTFOs her to oblivion, yeah.
Solely on AniTwitter will you see individuals who are incapable of articulating themselves with their exiguous vocabulary ridiculing someone actually making an effort to augment their thoughts in a grandiloquent manner and dismiss it as prolix proceeding to be insufferably smug.
What's wrong with Attack on Titan fans man, why do they act like racism, imperialism and indoctrination didn't exist before and was invented by AoT 😭
Well AoT was probably their introduction to these topics but still 💀
Two of the greatest characters in fiction facing off wordlessly in the culmination of their camaraderie.
The epitome of "a picture is worth a thousand words".
7×7 Antagonists
Anyone who played an antagonistic role for a significant part of the story are included, aren't necessarily the primary one.
Ranked according to how much I like them as characters, not antagonists.
Distance from centre is inversely proportional to preference.
