I can’t believe it’s 2023 and a Kr history account with a large following still believes that these hats are Korean…. For those who aren’t aware they are Song dynasty style - nothing to do with Goryeo.

It bothers me so much that they were like, oh it has its “roots” in ancient China as if changes were made when the tradition was introduced to Korea. No, the “Korean” zodiac is EXACTLY the same as Chinese zodiac. Please don’t call it Korean when it hasn’t been localized at all.

There appears to be a fundamental misunderstanding regarding the definition of Ruqun. Whether or not the top is tucked into the skirt is completely irrelevant. Its nomenclature is ultimately determined by the design & cut of the top (see relics dating back to Han & Jin dynasties)

Would like to clarify that most of these “Yan relics” aren’t from Yan. Item 1 & 5 were excavated in Nanjing (historical capital Jin dynasty) which was never taken by Yan. Item 2, 3 and 4 were made in AD 301 and 324, before any of the Yan kingdoms was even established.

It has been recorded since the Three Kingdoms period that wide pants played a role in making skirts into A-line in Korean dress. This continues into the Joseon Hanbok. Although Goryeo has few relics, still can find out the pants under the skirt.

These types of Qing dynasty paintings are called 职贡图 and their accuracy are severely skewed and stereotypes. Many of these artists had actually not seen a foreign outfit like this but only painted it based on imagination or secondary recount.

@yonggarii_ @travelerwithLUV @MMMDRAWSS @tAFQJQSa3IDrkWE Here are just a few out of the hundreds of ludicrous comments made by Hanbok Pantry. Slapping the Korean/Goryeo label on Chinese celadon figures despite having been corrected a million times is definitely an ultranationalist move.

@9758898k @ljl13023992 @GLOLIA15 You do realize that these murals are from Mogao grottoes, China (Tang dynasty) right? The first person wasn’t even Korean… here are some hats worn by Chinese civilians/farmers during the same time period……

Idk if this is what the average Korean person thinks but I’ve seen quite a few people complaining about Hanfu’s white collar strip. Like bro it was literally invented by ancient Chinese and later adopted by people of Joseon….

@exinum0457 @pinecone312 @mekosuda @XieRubie Those two are just some styles of the Ming dynasty. The male outfit specifically belongs to a type of royal guards. Here are more images to show the difference between civilian outfits. We do not claim the Korean ones as Chinese.

@3506P Goryeo didn’t even have any short cross-collared tops until the very END (14th century) whereas earlier dynasties of China such as Song and Liao had similar clothes to Early Ming. Please stop referring to such attire as “Goryeo style”.

@BidoLeovina @charlichan81 @redagaintsblue Wuxia is literally a genre of novel created in the last century by Chinese authors, incorporating traditional Chinese fantasy stories and folk cultures… It’s fine to be inspired by it but it’s inappropriate to label it as “traditionally Korean”.
