Conversion therapy is bad. “Exploratory therapy” as pushed by GCs, who don’t believe in non-binary/trans identities - is bad. It’s conversion therapy by another name. If you can’t accept that a person is valid where they are then you are seeking to change that.

None of us would wish being trans on anyone in this climate. If a kid’s not trans, good for them. Conversion therapy *is* harmful. Giving kids and adults a space to talk and explore *all options* is vital. Anything else is conversion therapy.

Thanks Mallory. This is a really useful article for anyone wanting to understand the ways in which conversion therapy and exploratory therapy are discussed.
UKCP's board are fundamentally transphobic - openly and clearly skeptical of trans people's identities. UKCP cynically endorse experimental, unethical and many decades disproven (see: ) "therapies" for children bcos they think they can get away with it.

You’re right, all therapy should be exploratory. However “exploratory therapy” as expounded by GCs is not what ANY OTHER THERAPIST means by exploratory.

I have literally no idea what you’re talking about. Because a talking therapy that allows kids to explore is exactly what’s needed. Conversion therapy, or an “exploratory therapy” starting from a basis that trans isn’t real is what’s killing kids.
