@staceyabrams
says Lieberman should step aside in Georgia Senate special election and clear way for Raphael Warnock, and she didn't mince words. "We need Matt Lieberman to understand that he is not called for this moment."
I was the reporter who asked this question after listening to Rep. Greene downplay the impact of COVID-19 on young people & those who aren't obese. I asked if she feels any responsibility to people in Georgia to protect them. She said the responsibility is their own.
Jon
@ossoff
’s new legislative director is one of only five Black people to hold that position among the 100 U.S. Senate offices. Overall, 66% of Ossoff’s top office staff members are people of color.

@ajconwashington
Everyone trying to figure out if Matt Gaetz has a son or adopted a son, and what color is the young man, are still missing the point: Having people of color in his life doesn't immunize him from being accused of racism or not doing right by black people.
@DavidDTSS
Was he not up on the words or was he purposely skipping the name-dropping of Atlanta rappers? It left me wondering if some of them had hit him on the side and were like “Leave me out of it, but prosper, King!”
I helped make this call. And it’s in line with invitations NABJ has sent to every presidential candidate for decades. But continue to go off on your feed. I’ll continue to work to create opportunities for journalists to interview the potential next President.
As John Lewis's hometown paper, the
@ajc
covered his career extensively. Here is a

of articles published thus far as we mourn his passing.
More is to come. All of it is available here on our

VP
@KamalaHarris
makes a surprise visit to Atlanta’s Busy Bee Cafe after the game. She said she was especially excited to have some sweet potato pie and her sister wanted banana pudding.
Some of yall need to take a step back and ask why you’re questioning why a group of JOURNALISTS wants to ask former and possibly future President Trump questions. Do you hear yourselves?
You’re 8 years old.
Your 3rd grade class orders chinese food & your father delivers it. You are so excited to see your pops in school. He’s your hero. But apparently other kids don’t think he’s so cool. They laugh at him and mimic his accent. You don’t want to be Chinese anymore.
Abrams Campaign manager Lauren Groh Wargo said there are votes to be counted in Dem strongholds, mail-in ballots to count and unknown number of provisional ballots. Don't expect a definitive answer on race tonight.
Update: John Lewis's family is holding off on announcing his funeral details out of respect for CT Vivian. Details will be announced AFTER Vivian's services on Thursday. House will hold a moment of silence today around 11:15am
1. Ed Reed was dead wrong & has no one to blame but himself — his poor planning & decision making — for fumbling his 1st head coaching opportunity.
2.BCU has serious issues exacerbated by natural disasters & ongoing financial & leadership deficiencies.
Both things can be true.
My latest: Kelly Loeffler was using prechecked boxes to automatically sign up donors to her new political organization for recurring gifts ... until I started asking questions.
There are a lot of things we still don't know about Kelly Loeffler's stock trading. I decided to write a blog outlining all of the unanswered questions.
Not only did Abrams announce straight to the people & in the method of a Beyonce surprise album release. But also NO LEAKS from her team. Media found out the same time as everyone else. This says something about her strategy.
I’m having a spiritual experience walking through the convention center at Essence Festival, and I’m not even joking. This celebration and gathering of Black women is really something. I see why folks do this trip religiously.
The
@ajc
today published a letter to the editor by
@GovKemp
calling the newspaper a “tabloid rag” because of our coverage of his response to the pandemic, which has been criticized by public health experts and President Trump’s advisers.
#gapol
It’s time for another media literacy lesson. This case is a bit more complicated because news sources generally considered credible have posted viral articles about an elephant returning to a funeral to finish off a woman it attacked earlier. Still, the story is likely fake 1/
I guess I won’t let IG have all the fun. Today was my birthday, and I decided “41 and doing me” meant a photoshoot. Three looks. Three locations. Just me, my tripod and my phone.
@juviethegreat
“Bounce Back” would be amazing live.
Of course we need “Back that Azz Up,” “Slow Motion, “Ha” and “400 Degreez.”
But can I please request my personal fav “Project Chick”?
Georgia’s two U.S. senators say they have tapped a diverse group of legal experts, judges and civil rights advocates to advise them on nominations to top federal jobs in the state.

*leans in closer* Y’all know Matt Gaetz is in Congress now because FL Republicans figured he could do less damage there than he would have if he won his dad’s old Senate seat? (1 of 435 in possible minority vs 1 of 40 in slim majority)
New: A former Florida legislator says Matt Gaetz fought a state law banning people from spreading naked pictures and videos of ex-partners because "he thought that any picture was his to use as he wanted"
I’m unprotecting my tweets to address this and fill in some details. Because I know
@AprilDRyan
’s tweet below will gain traction. And there is some context missing.
@Lesdoggg
Hey sis. It's me. I love you!!! BTW: I live in the DC area (but yes, the blinds indicate my pay grade). My couch is a deep purple. The painting is an original by Atlanta artist Melissa Mitchell (no relation)
Most of the articles and content in this thread are newly published since news of John Lewis's passing last night or were updated. And there is even more, which the
@ajc
will continue to share as we honor the life & legacy of John Lewis.
Hey guys. Consider your sources. As of the latest numbers from the Secretary of State, there still is no runoff in Georgia. Kemp must be below 50% for a runoff to occur.
I first heard of Nestor when I wrote an article in 2015 about Gaetz. He had ridiculed black lawmakers & was accused of racism. A GOP operative called & said Gaetz was hurt partially because his girlfriend & her son were people of color.
You can tell that the lawmakers in the room were truly moved during this moment:
@repjohnlewis
and
@SenatorIsakson
met halfway and embraced during a good-bye tributes to Isakson on the House floor just now (screen grab from House feed)
@ProjectLincoln
Now
@TheRickWilson
, can we talk about this? I know the Lincoln Project, like Lewis, is anti-Trump. But can you really say its organizers have been working in favor of the things Lewis stood for over his career? Let's not make John Lewis the new "MLK Jr. quote."
I ran my mouth too long after church (got it honest from my momma), but it paid off. Here is
@ReverendWarnock
singing the Alpha Phi Alpha hymn with his fraternity brothers to celebrate their Founders Day.
There is a security breach of some sort. Congressional leaders have been escorted out of the chamber. US media are locked in. There was an outburst but I can't tell who or why. (Personal note: It's scary but I am ok.)
John Lewis is back on the House floor to vote in favor of limiting Trump's ability to take further military action in Iran. First time in chamber since announcing cancer diagnosis.
I deleted my thread (I've been doing that a lot lately). But I will say this: I don't think Matt GAETZ understands that having people of color in his life doesn't immunize him from being accused of racism or not doing right by POC.
I honestly feel smarter just by being on this podcast. Plus I think I successfully didn’t let on how much I was fan-girling over meeting
@NateSilver538
. Bonus: Did y’all know I was
@perrybaconjr
’s first editor? Now you HAVE to listen!
@Karamo
@theninaparker
It’s provocative! It gets the people going. But also it was a terrible idea clearly! Lol. This is giving me Teddy Riley Verzuz vibes
I stood my ground on the newsworthiness of my article and refused to allow Gaetz, via the operative, to use his relationship as some “get out of being accused of racism” card. The operative also used her proximity to a child of color in the convo. It was interesting.
Here is where the story started falling apart in my eyes. One person on my TL shared a link from an Indian news org I hadn’t heard of. So I googled them. Wikipedia tells me the site is known for publishing fake news. 4/
I have spoken to
@NilesGAPol
. (He temporarily deactivated his account.) He is OK. But we should ALL remember he is 18 years old. I try to stay even-keeled on here, but right is right. Wrong is wrong. Treating people with respect is not political.
@PMAC3701
@EmmanuelAcho
@DeionSanders
Right! Like what is he even talking about? And comparing himself to Jesus. But all these men with football playing experience but no coaching, teaching or HBCU experience acting like this is ok? Also wasn’t he just apologizing for the same type of speech a few days ago?
I sometimes hesitate to put something random or foolish on my TL because so many folks are following me for “serious political news.” But then I think ... “What would
@AsteadWesley
do?” And I let them tweets fly!
My old friend from Florida, Rep
@ByronDonalds
flew to Atlanta for the event. He said he is here and plans to do what he can to get Trump Re-elected in 2020
The House voted to revoke, the Senate didn't. So, the tax break remains in place ... for now. (There is always threat of special session or next year.)
“Georgia's Republican-controlled House on Wednesday voted to revoke a major tax break for Delta Air Lines as punishment for its CEO's public criticism of the state's controversial new law clamping down on ballot access.”
Dear media ... Most Black people are just as concerned about policing as they are about violence in majority-Black neighborhoods. And the root cause of both is structural racism. That’s what you should be exploring today.
As I suspected,
@staceyabrams
was part of tonight’s
@verzuzonline
. She spoke at the top of the show briefly about the importance of Georgia’s Senate runoffs and voter participation.

Free skateboarding lessons are happening at a new skatepark in Detroit. Of course I had to show the kids something on
@Local4News
. In all seriousness - as a child, I would have killed for a new park and mentors in the skateboarding community. Glad to see it’s happening in Detroit
Let me clarify: I can’t say for sure if the operative who called me in 2015 was referring to Nestor. I wasn’t given a name. I was told Gaetz had a girlfriend who was a POC and the girlfriend had a son. When Gaetz was interacting with Richmond yesterday, I recalled that convo.
Facebook has reminded me it’s been 10 years since my first national TV appearance. Which also marks 10 years since
@JoyAnnReid
gave me the most epic side eye. 🤣🤣🤣
