Not just 17th, but the 19th and 20th also. The last of which is dubbed the "million militia march," with the stated of aim of preventing Joe Biden becoming president.
@SteveFDA
A relative risk reduction with a very wide CI, cherry-picked at 7 days instead of 30, from a relatively small retrospective subgroup analysis (total n=1076) that compared mortality outcomes among recipients of arbitrarily defined "high" or "low" antibody plasma.
Unfortunately there's misinformation circulating about this
#HIV
vaccine study. It's not mRNA but protein, and there's no expectation of efficacy - it's a possible first step on a long road toward persuading B cells to make protective antibodies

I'm not finding a whole lot of reassurance in the word "limited."
@ddiamond
Would be great if your headline writers could figure out a way of presenting this as what it is (a public health issue), rather than as a political problem for Joe Biden
Sorry that this is a little off topic for this twitter account, but it's so shocking. From Sunday, the day after the Barrett conflab. Note that Pence, currently objecting to safety measures for the VP debate, is right there in the front row.

There are rumblings suggesting maybe there are results imminent from the Oxford trial in the UK, and FDA will grant an EUA based on that. Nothing confirmed. Sadly the concern here doesn't seem likely to be the health of HCW, but the health of Trump's reelection campaign.
@EricSchultz
@AdamParkhomenko
Sad to say that, in its current form, this article represents a false smear. Biden is not "flouting" anything, he's following the CDC guidance - the piece links to the guidance, but fails to explicitly quote the salient part defining "close contact."

No, unusually for RNA viruses they have a proofreading mechanism which greatly lessens mutation rate compare to others like flu or HIV. Reason immunity to seasonal cold-causing coronaviruses is short-lived appears unclear and not related to mutation AFAIK.
SARS-CoV-2 spike protein is readily vulnerable to neutralizing antibodies thankfully. But HIV Env protein has a protective cloak of sugar molecules, and mostly only weird-shaped antibodies produced by rare B cells can penetrate the cloak and neutralize HIV.

Giuliani delusionally said it was because state legislators were on the verge of somehow withdrawing their certified Electoral College votes: "it would give us the opportunity to get the legislators who are very, very close to pulling their vote"
@GreenesLlama

@jabinbotsford
Unfortunately, I don't think the reality of what's possible is the concern here - it's what Trump might delusionally imagine is possible. The election results couldn't be overturned on Jan 6, but his fantasy that they could caused at least seven deaths and many more injuries.

I think the confusion arose due to plans for future work with

to use mRNA to deliver this & other proteins. This is good news - hopefully will accelerate efforts to push B cells to take the remaining steps toward generating effective antibodies

Thanks for covering this dismal development. Rogan had Duesberg on his show in the past. The AIDS denialist writer Celia Farber who RFK Jr thanks for help with his book once sued me for libel for calling her & Duesberg liars & frauds, case was dismissed (x3 - 2 appeals).
This "variant" has been around since the 1990s and, as you find out in the 9th para of this piece, "Its circulation has been declining since around 2010." I fear that those facts won't stop this irresponsible headline being widely shared and misunderstood on social media.
@paulkrugman
The poll Politico posted yesterday counted the answer "somewhat agree" (that the response is OK) as approval - that seems potentially misleading to me. I can see people picking that answer because they don't want to be negative but actually don't think everything's OK.
An additional error in the viral tweets circulating about this study is the statement that 97% of recipients developed antibodies against
#HIV
- *this wasn't measured.* Rather, it was the proportion of people in whom a certain type of B cell was detectable (see this fig from R4P)

It'd be helpful to know if any of the 26 women who were asymptomatic at discharge developed symptoms later. Perhaps the reader is supposed to infer that they didn't, but it doesn't seem to be specifically stated.

Unearthed: RFK Jr. pushed HIV/AIDS denialism, attributing AIDS not to HIV, but to a “gay lifestyle” and recreational drugs:
“There were people that were part of a gay lifestyle, they were burning the candle at both ends, …there were poppers on sale everywhere at the gay bars.”

Needs to be careful with words like "strain" as they're ripe for misinterpretation. Genetic signatures that allow tracking don't necessarily equate to distinct strains as the word might generally be interpreted (e.g. viruses with different properties)
Robert Kennedy Jr's presidential campaign makes him the most high profile political figure to promote AIDS denialism since Thabo Mbeki. I think journalists should mention this every time they cover him.

I'd guess the peer reviewers had some feedback about post hoc combining of data from two separate trials with different control arms, one of which involved a subgroup of people given a different dose by mistake
