I dedicate the book to the participants of this study!
Thank you for all your wishes. I passed my PhD defense and now I am Dr. Baniya 🙃
I am privileged enough to finish my PhD amid the
#Covid19
crisis. I wore my pink sari and chaubandi choli for my defense and my wonderful bf made a pink cake for celebration.

Today, I officially start my job as Assistant Professor at

Tomorrow, I will defend my PhD dissertation and I am feeling like SLC examination that I took in 2004. SLC used to be an annual 10th-grade exam after which you can chase your dreams. I am feeling similar anxiety, happiness, excitement, joy. A conundrum of emotions

So Excited to Share my first single-authored journal publication

I realized since May 2018: I have won 15 grants, awards, and fellowships.Clue is: I apply to everything I am eligible for and hope for the best. As an international student, I feel pressured to be visible in the field. Even if I don't win, people will still read my application :)
Today I was awarded with Excellence in Outreach and International Initiatives from
@VT_LiberalArts
College!
Thank you my mentors, friends, and collaborators!
This award is dedicated to all the community partners that I work together with to combat global challenges!!
Hindu Goddess Taleju Bhawani’s necklace @ Art Institute of Chicago
My heart decided to bow down and pray ~ while we can only visit Nepal’s Taleju temple once a year ~ here in Chicago it is accessible to all the visitors. 🤔🤔🥺🥺🧐🧐
Taleju Bhawani’s necklace is not just a necklace~ it is a worshipped piece and it has religious, cultural, and spiritual importance!
@artinstitutechi
doesn’t want to recognize that and is keeping our sacred worshipped piece inside a square glass box!
Please RETURN this to us
My university recognized my work and published my story today via
@vtnews
I know there are a lot of coverages happening! However, my ultimate wish is that the necklace would be returned.
Please help us put pressure on
@artinstitutechi
Woke up with a publication today :)

Ama, Daddy, and Award (:
As a first gen PhD, often times it is very confusing for my parents to understand what’s conference, what am I doing there etc. As CPTSC was nearby where they live, I took them and they saw me being awarded (:

Thank you for recognition 🙂

Woke up with a rejection letter for an article but reviewers did a wonderful job with comments that are encouraging and gives direction on what to do next. That's the kind of feminist reviewer I want to be - encouraging, kind,and helpful.

The Art Institute of Chicago is still openly displaying the stolen necklace of Taleju Bhawani.
My friend Chen sent me this photo today from Chicago saying the necklace is still here!

This summer I have 3 rejections from 3 different journals I have sent my articles to!
I am sad but happy to eat and digest these feelings for now!
Can you all share what do you do when you get rejections?
I know it is part of academia
Where did this person who sexually assaulted me 8/9 years ago get courage to follow me on Twitter after I had blocked him on Facebook for years! This made me anxious whole day! We need to rage against all these assaults!

Presses around the world have published this story! Everyone knows
@artinstitutechi
has not returned our Goddess’s necklace! What else the Institute wants?
Why this silence? Why keeping something that doesn’t belong to them?
My driving radius is 5-10 miles or maximum 30.

It is one year anniversary of buying our house & we finally did a puja with Blacksburg Nepali community. It was very special with food, bhajans, dancing, Bhagvad Gita recital!
I had wanted to do puja year ago but last year was a roller coaster & yesterday was the right moment!
I want to honor the person who struggled so hard to get that 50 percent to get that scholarship and is still pushing hard and isn’t giving up on their dreams, while his privileged peers have already succeeded.
Student evaluation notification races my heart so badly
Each semester at Purdue, I'd received one comment directed towards my Eng language abilities and how I shouldn't be allowed to teach 🥴
Hence, student evals are traumatic 🥴 bt they are valuable for tenure (except this sem)

Entitled and misogynistic Nepali men get space in Nepali media to yak bullshit and bully women so freely without any fear of repercussions. It’s because there are none right? These unacceptable chauvinistic behavior are acceptable even if they cause severe harm to woman! UGH 🤦🏻♀️
PSA: If you are chair or member of an intl student and they are on job market and if they are denied job because of visa issue—know that you as chair or committee mem have responsibility of calling the Search Committee/chair/Dean to put pressure on them to sponsor visa for them
I sometimes think that my PhD advisor is the best life coach I have ever had (including the dissertation supervision). And, I feel lucky in that regard. I have never publicly shared this but I think he deserves to be celebrated on Twitter as he isn't on any social media :D :D
