The 2025 - 2026 registration for the Suffolk Public Schools 4-Year-Old Early Start/Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) program opens on February 10th. This program is for children who turn four years old by September 30, 2025, and who need an extra year to prepare for success in kindergarten. Suffolk Public Schools Nutritional Services, led by Dr. Lawrence Whiting, has been selected to join the 2024-2025 Virginia School Recipe Development Team, a collaborative initiative with the Virginia Department of Education and the Office of School and Community Nutrition Programs. This team aims to create standardized recipes that are nutritious, delicious, and aligned with USDA guidance while highlighting local agricultural products. Dr. Whiting and Angela Howell will represent SPS in this effort to improve school meals and showcase Virginia's agricultural heritage. @NutritionSPS #SPSCreatesAchievers

UPDATE: UPDATE: The power has been fully restored at Creekside Elementary School. All phone calls will now be routed directly back to the school. ATTN: Suffolk Public Schools has been made aware of a power outage in the neighborhood surrounding Creekside Elementary School that is also impacting the school. All phones and internet services are currently down. The school is operating on a back-up generator, providing partial power at this time. A timeline for power restoration has not yet been confirmed. Phone calls to Creekside Elementary School will be rerouted to the School Administrative Offices.

The school division will implement a Virtual Work Day for staff. *The scheduled staff Professional Learning/Clerical Day will be virtual. Elementary/Secondary staff will receive additional details and information from their building principal. *Maintenance and custodial personnel should report to their buildings at 9 a.m.

However, after evaluating the latest forecast and taking into account the anticipated precipitation, freezing temperatures, and icy conditions, Suffolk Public Schools will now be closed for students and staff tomorrow, January 22, 2025.

With winter weather predicted to impact our area this evening, into tomorrow morning, all after-school athletics and activities at Suffolk Public Schools are canceled for Tuesday, January 21. All buildings and schools will open on a 2-hour delay on Wednesday, January 22. Please continue to monitor our official SPS communication channels for weather-related updates.
