Roy Keane on ITV: "Coventry City looked like the Premier League team at the end, United looked like the Championship team. All the plaudits go to Coventry."
RIP radio legend Tony Butler. Known as the man who invented the football phone-in at BRMB in Birmingham, Tony was very generous with his time & advice when I became the first Sports Editor at Radio Hallam in Sheffield in 1974. A true legend.
The issue here, surely, is that Wright is obviously intent on staying onside. Neither he, nor the United defence, know his little toe has strayed onto a red line that is invisible to everyone until an official, who is not even at the ground, draws it on a TV picture! It’s barmy.
What on earth caused Nigel Pearson to dislike Kasey Palmer so much at Bristol City? I am delighted he did because Palmer has proved what an excellent player he is under Mark Robins, and long may he stay
@Coventry_City
.
This will be the first time that I’ve not been to Wembley with the Sky Blues, because of health issues. My chemo treatment keeps me from venues & events with large numbers of people. So it’s the TV for me, alongside listening to my friends & former colleagues on BBC CWR. (1/2)
Change of perspective for me from today, exiting the press box after more than 50 years to enjoy the football as a season ticket holder, with no microphone in sight. Looking forward to the fun & the banter from a seat in the stands.

I hate criticising fellow radio & TV presenters & journalists, particularly as I no longer do the job, but the Burley and Morgan interviews with Mick Lynch were frankly embarrassing. Sadly, both claimed Lynch was flustered and irritated when he clearly wasn’t.
I’ve been playing catch-up with the World Cup this week because of medical concerns. I’ve been diagnosed as having had a mild stroke, but the team at UHCW were excellent in guiding me through the scans & other exploratory processes. So new meds now & on we go.
RIP David Duckham MBE, aged 76, regarded as one of England’s best ever rugby players. Born in Coventry, educated at King Henry VIII school, played for Coventry & won 36 caps for England, scoring 10 tries. A great player and an even better man.
Great to hear
@Coventry_City
being talked about so highly this morning. Inevitably, there's a lot of focus on Man United's many troubles, but they did not win yesterday. They may be in the Final, but they lost at Wembley, on the pitch & off.

What an utterly brilliant column by
@henrywinter
in
@thetimes
. If it were read to a stadium full of football fans (remember those days?) it would rightly receive a standing ovation. Thank you Henry for standing up, in the proper sense, for football.
In The Times: "Robins never stopped encouraging, instructing his players, trying to change the shape of the game. A stark contrast to Ten Hag, who spent most of the match with hands in pockets." "Coventry gave their fans, & the rest of us, a day to cherish for ever."
Maidstone manager George Elokobi: "We showcased our talent and skills coming up against a fantastic Championship side at a fantastic stadium. Thank you to Coventry for their hospitality and their fans who I thought were tremendous."
Jabbed at Stoneleigh Park. Arrived around 45 minutes early, because we were going to give the dog a walk first, but my wife was told she could park the car & I could go straight in. No long queue, no waiting, all done in 10 minutes. Brilliantly organised.

Those of us old enough will remember Alf Ramsay calling the Argentinian team ‘animals’ in 1966. Preston’s treatment of Calum O’Hare yesterday reminded me of that. They were determined to hurt him so badly he would have to go off. They should have had 2 reds cards. Appalling.
Tremendous effort, first to take us to the Final then to take us to the last kick. Below par first half, on the mark in the second, but the cruelty of the shoot-out. Great season, & now we go again.

RIP Ronnie Farmer, aged 86. Ron joined
@Coventry_City
in November 1958 & played for the club in all four divisions of the Football League. He retired from football in 1970 & worked at Massey Ferguson. A good friend in his later years, & a lovely man.
I remember Cyrille Regis saying something similar to me: "it feels like nothing will ever change." He said: "you don't know what it's like Stuart, and I hope you never do." That was around 10 years ago, so maybe Kasey's right. How very sad.
Cyrille was a great footballer. The racism he faced was handled with determination & dignity. Sadly, it remains, and equally sadly Cyrille is no longer with us to continue his fight against it. He is missed so very much...
Obviously recorded before they set off for Portugal. They seem to be managing this brilliantly, releasing the information as and when it suits CCFC. Well played.
Oggy facts: A policeman before becoming a professional footballer. Should have played for England. Scored a goal with a kick from his own penalty area. A good cricketer - played Minor Counties cricket - medium/fast bowler. CCFC appearances record holder. FA Cup winner. Legend.
I was really anxious going into this match tonight, but Mark Robins and his players did a superb job. Kyle McFadzean man of the match for me, but a superb all round team performance.
George Curtis was a huge character in the life of the city of Coventry, as well as CCFC. Thoughts & condolences with Inger, Mick, Julie & the family, who have asked for their privacy to be respected. It was a privilege to have known him. RIP George.
Coventry City fan Brian Wright has traditionally worn a Sky Blues shirt at the snooker championship at The Crucible. The organisers have now said “no football shirts”, but that hasn’t stopped Brian wearing his colours...
No

play-off place then. It’s still been a tremendous season for Mark Robins & his squad, & they deserve a decent end of season farewell tomorrow.

As some may have seen in the notices column of the Coventry Telegraph, former
@Coventry_City
PA announcer (at Highfield Road), & local radio sports reporter (Mercia Sound & BBC CWR), Tom Wadrop has sadly passed away, aged 76. Thoughts with his wife Marion. RIP Tom.
With Parky in Sheffield in 1975. We shared a mutual love of sport, especially cricket, & he was one of my big broadcasting idols. For me, he was one of the very best interviewers of all time. My thoughts with Lady Mary & the family. There will, rightly, be many, many tributes.

Robins really angry at the Sheffield Wednesday supporters for booing Kasey Palmer tonight. The Sky Blues manager not pulling any punches tonight in the aftermath of the racist abuse at the end of the previous match.
Last night Burge outstanding, Biamou brilliant, McNulty sensational, Doyle immense - the whole team simply excellent. They proved, once & for all, they’re far & away the best footballing team in the Division, & if one or two decisions went our way - it’s about bloody time!
I will never forget commentating on the last semi-final in which we played, in 1987, on our way to winning the Cup that year - and we beat Manchester United then during our cup run. Even though I can’t be there, I’m really looking forward to Sunday. (2/2).

Whether it’s how it’s implemented Henry, or VAR itself, it’s ripped out the soul and spirit of the game, and destroyed the authority of the referee on the pitch, who should have the final say. Train officials better and scrap this nonsense. Goal line technology yes, VAR no.
So it appears to come down to somebody being prepared to pay out approx £500,000 for a new “lay & play” surface. Putting to one side the argument over who should foot the bill, for a Premiership rugby club & a Championship football club not to resolve that is beyond ridiculous.

: "I want us to get close to an operational sustainable role. It's starting to change. You've got to believe in where you want to go. I'm investing in the playing quality, & I'm doing long overdue work with the infrastructure of the club which was a disaster."
Delighted to learn that the Sky Blue Song will be played before kick-off at Wembley, and also ‘We’ll Live and Die In These Towns’, around five minutes before kick-off. I do hope that
@itvfootball
get it right so that we hear it loud & clear.
@BBCCWR
will, I’m sure.

As a broadcast journalist who thought he understood the issues involved in AS, I realise after reading your posts that I knew very little. I am not a Jew, so I have never experienced what you write about. Thank you for the clarity that you have articulated so well.

Because she can, because that’s what female TV presenters often do to complement their outfit, because she is a normal person unlike someone who asks such a ridiculous question.
We played, and beat them, at Old Trafford in '87, and of course Mark Robins has his own history with Manchester United. It's one of those great stories that the FA Cup throws up...and who knows...?
#PUSB
So many City fans have said to me over the years that in many ways the semi-final was better than the Final. Lloyd McGrath lifted the team at half-time, singing “here we go, here we go...” in the dressing room. The rest joined in, Leeds heard it & were just bewildered. We won.

So many people to thank & acknowledge after what turned into a rather emotional day for me. Family & friends - & the
@BBCNorthampton
team TWICE! - were lovely in their surprises. I will try to thank those that I haven’t yet caught up with, but thank you Northamptonshire.
Nearly time for the last one. Final show of full-time, every day, every week broadcasting
@BBCNorthampton
starts at 3pm. My friends & colleagues have given me a lovely lunch at Nuovo Restaurant in Northampton, with a great cake!
Given that Keith Stroud and his assistant referees were poor (I’m trying to be polite), how did we collect four yellows and SU only finished the match with one (which should gave been red anyway)? Physical contest, fine - but I don’t agree that we were the more aggressive side.
The pitch not only declared unfit but also unsafe. That applies to rugby as well as football. Any club using it would therefore be risking the safety & wellbeing of their players. New pitch the only - & immediate - answer. All for the sake of £500k. Shouldn’t even be a debate.
Just thrilled to see the end of the era that brought us Otium Entertainment and so much unnecessary pain & disappointment. The future’s bright, but it’s not orange (remember Orange Ken?), and it has a brilliant mop of grey hair. It also appears to be smart and sensible.

What doesn’t he understand about it being a minimum of 6 minutes, to which the referee quite rightly added time when his players feigned injury (or weren’t fit enough to start with!)? Poor form from the manager.
@AlanBiggs1
I'll say it now: Hamer is the best footballer that Unitedites will have seen since TC - and, yes, he will improve. Enjoy him. He is special.
RIP Vince Hill, seen with me here backstage at Bedworth Civic Hall where I compered a show in which he was top of the bill. I was privileged to interview him several times. Born in Holbrooks in Coventry, he went on to have a huge hit with "Edelweiss" from 'The Sound Of Music'.
Thank you to the amazing number of people who have sent messages of congratulations on the birth of our first grandchild, the beautiful Romy. Apologies if I did not get to acknowledge each one personally. Thank you, too, to all

. The new parents are tired but happy...
Distraught Birmingham fan overheard on his phone outside St. Andrew’s this evening: “That was the worst game of football I have ever seen, and it was horrible. It was like we were the away team.” I don’t like to upset him even more, but son, you were the away team.

It’s good to enjoy music with friends, so I have two of mine sitting with me to listen to The Specials, enjoy the legacy left by Terry Hall & ponder his death when only 63. Too much, too young.

My Dad was born in London 108 years ago today: Captain Eric H. G. Linnell, battery captain in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, rugby referee, cricket umpire, and Dad to me and my sister. Remembered today with love and pride.
Don’t anyone tell me that Mark Robins doesn’t have a “plan B”. Second-half tonight he went two up, & changed his midfield personnel restoring Kelly in the middle. It worked. 2-1 win.

A club with an owner massively disliked by it’s supporters, surrounded by off the pitch turmoil and controversy, has just won the League 1 Play-Off Final at Wembley, and will play in the Championship next season. Well done Charlton Athletic. Well done Lee Bowyer.
32 years ago. A great day from an historic Sky Blues season. Privileged to regard those heroes as my friends. Hard to reconcile with what is happening now.
On this day in 1987 ITV showed an entertaining FA Cup semi-final between Coventry City and Leeds United, which City won 3-2 at Hillsborough.

A midweek night match, a cold night too, and live on TV, yet still 22,676 were there to watch the local derby. Great atmosphere, poor referee (again!). No question we should have had a penalty, but we should also have finished much better than we did. (Pic by

Robins on O’Hare: “I heard there’s loads of stories on stupid platforms, people talking rubbish. He’s just fatigued. What is the point of dragging him for hours on a bus when he can’t play. We made the decision for him. He wanted to play, but you can’t keep putting him out.”
