With the most eagerly-anticipated Ashes series since 2005 starting at Edgbaston in 2 days' time, here's a thread of some of the best pre-series content from @iPaperSport to get you in the mood. 1/7 The making of Brendon McCullum, England’s Bazball guru.

Really worth looking at Nathan Lyon’s words again before the 2017-18 Ashes. He was ecstatic at how “broken” England were in 2013-14 and talked about Australia “ending careers” in that 17-18 series. Mother cricket’s a bitch .

The disconnect between the majority view in England and Australia over the Bairstow incident is remarkable. Massive overreaction in this country but total lack of awareness from Australians that their team's actions in Cape Town five years ago still frames this narrative.

The "whingeing Pom" narrative from Down Under is not a fair reflection of the feeling in England - which is just massive disappointment a week that would have been off the charts in terms of interest for cricket in this country has been lost. And that's not Australia's fault tbf.

Anyone who thinks England will bring back Ben Foakes for Lord's has not been paying attention for the past year or so. This regime will back the entire top seven, including Jonny Bairstow as wicketkeeper, to the hilt. One narrow defeat doesn't change the plan #Ashes23 #Bazball.
