As a young person, the idea of exempting people 65 and older from property taxes is criminal. If you exempt them from taxes, they get the increase in value of their property at no cost. Meanwhile, the tax burden to fund government shifts more to every homeowner under 65.

Older homeowners have already seen massive investment value in property in their lifetime. So the idea of letting them realize further 5-10-15% annual increases tax-free and so they can sell their house and pocket the profit on the backs of everyone else is ridiculous.

@AlbertSTartagl1 There are desperately poor seniors out there, where $25 a month is a burden. But if the state wants to do this it should be NARROWLY TARGETED, like household annual income at like under 200% FPL (~$41K for household of 2, $30K for 1). Otherwise, pay your taxes.

Anti-abortion guy makes the claim that an Indy clinic is doing 60 abortions per day. If that was actually true, that clinic would be responsible for 21,900 abortions per year. Subtracting weekends, it would still be 15,000. Indiana only had 8,400 abortions at ALL clinics in 2021.

Mike Braun just dropped a big property tax relief plan - via email on a Friday morning. It would increase the homestead deduction, which he says would result in an immediate 21% cut in the average homeowner tax bill and 39% cut in the average tax bill for homes worth $80,000.

The budget sets eligibility for private school vouchers to 742% of the federal poverty level (basically universal). The SAME budget caps On My Way Pre-K eligibility at 150% of the federal poverty level. We’re subsidizing the wealthiest while neglecting our youngest kids.

The @INDems should make universal school lunch a main feature of their upcoming legislative platform. We saw the benefits of this during the pandemic. It's not terribly costly to accomplish, eliminates "lunch shaming" and directly benefits Hoosier families with kids.

Only 37% of vouchers in IN in 2021-22 went to families earning less than $50K, the "dirt poor." 42% went $50-100K 21% went to those over $100K. That was only 7% before IN Republicans broadened the eligibilty to allow more well-to-do families to take part.
