The Albanian ambassador to the UN just announced that the 4th poorest country in Europe, with a GDP per capita just 10% of the UK, just told the Security Council that his country will take refugees from Ukraine. The UK's refusal to welcome Ukrainian refugees shames our country.

@scottygb Not only must this story be told on the child's wedding day, but the video must be shown and if there is any justice in the world, the BBC news presenter will turn up with a unicorn to present as a wedding gift. This is simply glorious and fair play to the interviewee for it all.

What if the teachers are right and the exams are wrong? An exam is just a single test taken on a single day covering a random selection of parts of the syllabus. Whereas the teacher has a holistic view of the student measured over time. Personally I trust the teachers.

If you don’t understand why Mr Cleverly’s “joke” about rohypnol should disqualify him from being Home Secretary then just watch this. You know exactly who and what it is about. The fact we have a Home Secretary and PM who think spiking drinks is funny shames our entire nation.

“Closed”? Nobody told me! I was writing online lessons, delivering live lessons, marking work, talking to my tutees, supervising key worker children and teaching year 10s. But the PM says schools were closed. As he is PM he must know the facts. So did I imagine all that stuff?

I went to primary school between 1977 and 1984. We had no uniform, no SATs, no homework. Secondary 1984 to 1989. No GCSE interventions, no holiday lessons. No Ofsted until 1992. As I recall the world did not stop spinning, our teachers were great and we didn’t all “fail”.

I suspect @educationgovuk are currently in a bind. Every bit of scientific / medical public health advice they will be receiving will be telling them that they must issue stricter Covid guidance for schools. However, the promises they have made to their friends will hinder this.

In recent days people in govt, the press and indeed some in education sought to manufacture a split between teachers and their unions. They couldn't be more wrong. I am currently one of over 16000 @NEUnion members in a meeting with @MaryBoustedNEU & @cyclingkev . We are together.

If the phrase "white privilege" frustrates you or confuses you, just look at what an overwhelmingly white group of rioters are doing in Washington DC. Then think about what would be happening if they were black. You know what would be happening. Do you get it now? I know you do.

90 day limit. €7 visa. No right to live and work in the EU27. Well done Brexiteers. This is exactly what you always wanted. You have taken away the rights of your fellow citizens to unrestricted travel & life choices. For what? What do we get in return for this? Blue passports?

I can just see the PE teachers loading this clip on to their iPads to play to every child who says they can’t do PE because they’ve got a “cold”, “sore throat” or other minor ailment. “Oh, your throat hurts does it?” “You’ve got a note from your mum have you?” LOOK AT THIS!

I could do a talk on arguing and teaching on Twitter. I would say this: 1 All teachers like knowledge AND skills. 2 Be polite and respectful to all other teachers. 3 You don’t know everything. 4 You are not always right. 5 Remember you are always a role model for young people.

All the zero tolerance, mobile phone ban, pro-exclusion stuff that currently dominates education is really just a giant smokescreen to avoid dealing with the social inequalities and deprivation that are the real problems the govt don’t want to tackle because they just don’t care.

It is a complete failure of leadership for @Ofstednews to choose to continue inspecting schools during this crisis. It shows glaring arrogance and self-importance to think they add anything to schools who are having to deal with the immense pressures they are currently facing.

Regardless of what Mr Johnson says today I will continue as I have since lockdown started. I will go out no more than once a day. I will go shopping for food weekly. I will not visit any other public places to shop or socialise. I do not trust him or his govt to keep us safe.

It is that time of year where we see the scandal of schools that choose to punish families for being insufficiently affluent by deliberately prioritising image over everything else. The only reason for expensive uniforms is to exclude poorer families from the school community.

If you spend your time attacking migrants, supporting the govt’s hostile environment and seeking to make life hard for those who do not fit your narrow view of Britishness, but then celebrate when a young migrant wins a sporting event “for Britain”, you are a shameless hypocrite.

I have absolutely no sympathy whatsoever for Mr Sunak on this hammer thing. His party and media sycophants used Ed Miliband eating a bacon sandwich mercilessly to try to destroy him. Mr Sunak is a Tory politician. If you operate in the sewer then sometimes the shit is on you.

If the govt wants to remove the right to strike from teachers then they shouldn’t be surprised if teachers respond by just working according to their contracts all the time. Simply attempting their idiot idea shows how little DfE ministers know of the staff they employ and lead.

I am thinking of the SLTs who will be getting their school’s results on Wednesday. Thank you for all the hard work you do to lead our schools by enabling teachers and students to be the best they can be. I hope your GCSE results fairly reflect the work your schools have done.

I hope every teacher returning to school this week, whether to a new job like me, or to their existing school is able to be excited about going back to a new year. You deserve to be able to feel pleased, excited, invigorated and in great anticipation of the new school year. 1/

I am fortunate to work at a school that gets the changed circumstances of COVID-19. Email today confirming that all teachers will get pay progression in Sept with the summer term seeing SLT and middle leaders support colleagues with self-selected CPD goals. That is how to lead.

SLT bashing is possibly the most boring and infantile educational debate currently in existence. Who do people think SLT members are? Do they think they were never teachers? Are SLT apparently the enemy? Utterly ill-informed rubbish. Divide and rule from DfE.

Every time I get one of the new Brexit 50ps I shall place it in a special jar at home. Every time I have £10 I will donate it to an organisation that does the kind of work that Brexiteers hate: - food banks - refugee support - homeless support - legal aid - prisoner education

This never gets old. The flares, the ladders, the leaning out ladders at the top, the guy smoking a fag while trolling out piles of pigeon poo, the wooden plank to sit on, the total nonchalance of all involved. The whole thing is the most terrifyingly beautiful piece of TV ever.

New term! Six times a year I am profoundly reminded what a wonderful opportunity and privilege teaching is. Six chances each year to start anew with young people who are ready to take the chances that we as teachers offer them to learn and grow. Seize the day colleagues!

What is the defence for branded school uniforms that cost £100s? All across the country hundreds of thousands of families are currently spending a fortune on this clothing because schools choose to enforce it. I would love to hear a justification for all this avoidable expense.
