Snedge was found perching on Lady Grange's Cleit in the village yesterday, with the Factor's House beyond.
She doesn't usually shelter inside the head dyke, so this was a privileged sight, and demonstrates the severity of the force 10 storm!

Having a bad hair day?! Spare a thought for this puffling! Our pufflings have already started to fledge and many have lost all their down - not this one! Early indications suggest a reasonable season for Puffins on St Kilda - the UK’s biggest colony supports 135,752 pairs!

Happy news from the Leach's Petrel nest boxes: the first chick of the year, Coel Mòr, fledged overnight on Sunday after 61 days!

As this evening draws to a close we're thinking of the St Kildan families 89 years ago who were spending their final night on Hirta prior to the evacuation early tomorrow morning. What a mixture of emotions it must have been seeing darkness fall over their homes for the last time

In June I found a puffin that had sadly died in a burrow where an egg had been laid.
The puffin was ringed as a chick in 1981 at the same colony on Dùn - making it nearly an incredible 38 years old!
Let's hope this year's chicks are still laying eggs on Dùn 40 years from now!
