🏀GIRLS POWER RANKINGS -----> 15. Elliott County (0-12) - It is crazy how young they are. Only two sophomores and the rest are 7th and 8th graders. Their time will come. 14. Fairview (4-18) - Another very young team comprised of mainly 7th and 8th graders. They are a few years away from being able to compete within the region. 13. Greenup County (3-21) - It's been a rebuilding year for the Lady Musketeers. JR Maddy Steele has had a nice season, averaging almost a double-double at 9.7 PPG and 8.8 RPG. 12. Morgan County (6-14) - It's been an up and down year for the Lady Cougars, but they have some quality wins against Fleming and Wolfe County. SR Maci Adkins is having a great season, averaging 14.8 PPG and shooting 81.6% from the FT line. 11. Bath County (6-18) - A very young team that has no seniors, the Lady Wildcats have a bright future. JR Bayley French is having a great season at 15.7 PPG and 6.3 RPG . 10. Fleming County (5-15) - The record is deceiving--they have played Rowan x2, Boyd, Ashland and Russell and Menifee x2 to name a few. Schedule stays somewhat challenging over the next 5 games. 9. West Carter (9-13) - Their wins have mainly came against teams with a losing record, but they have had some competitive losses against good teams. Good chance to finish strong over their last six games. 8. Lewis County (12-11) - Despite their record, they have only beaten two teams with a winning record. Still need to see that quality win before I buy in. 7. Raceland (14-10) - They have had some competitive losses to good teams. Schedule stays pretty light the rest of the way. Excellent season for JR Naomi Maynard who is averaging 18.4 PPG and shooting 76.9% from the FT line. 6. East Carter (15-8) - Solid season for the Lady Raiders, who have three different players scoring in double digits on the season. Should finish strong with a relatively weak schedule the rest of the way. 5. Boyd County (15-8) - Some good quality wins for the Lady Lions this year, with big games against Ashland, Russell and Rowan on the horizon to finish out the year. 7th grader Kollyn Groves has been special for her age. She is averaging 13.9 PPG and shooting 42% from 3PT range. Wow. 4. Menifee County (16-8) - The Lady Cats are riding a 3-game winning streak, and are poised to be a big challenger for the 61st district title. One of the better FT shooting teams in the region, JR Jaycee Gevedon is at 91.2% on 91 attempts. 3. Rowan County (15-6) - They have won 8 of their last 9, and are on a good roll with district tournament time looming. SR Diamond Wills and FR Kolbie Ford have been an excellent 1-2 punch, averaging 16.5 and 14.4 PPG respectively. 2. Russell (19-5) - What a sepcial season for the Lady Devils, who many expected to take a huge step back this season. Some big games to finish out the season against Ashland, Boyd, Rowan and Lawrence. 1. Ashland (13-9) - Don't be fooled by the record, their schedule has been brutal. All 9 of their losses has been against teams not in the 16th region. Tough on defense and athletic.

🏀 BOYS POWER RANKINGS---------------> 15. Fairview (4-16) - Massive issue with scoring consistently. Turnovers have been a nightmare. 14. Menifee (4-18) - 1-9 in their last 10. Brevon Ricker and Aiden Manley combined average 38 PPG. The rest of the team averages 12. 13. West Carter (3-20) - Currently riding a 12 game losing streak. They have almost no 3PT shooting, they are 21% from behind the arc. 12. East Carter (6-13) - They have had some close losses, but are a year away. Offense needs more, they have only scored over 60 four times this season. 11. Greenup County (8-15) - They are better than their record indicates. Defense is solid, they just cannot score. 22% from 3PT rand and 36% from the field makes tough sledding. They need a third scoring option other than Gammon and Chandley. 10. Bath County (8-10) - They are 5-2 in their last seven games. They have some senior experience, and could surprise some teams late. 9. Morgan County (9-10) - One of the better FT shooting teams in the region at 77%, and they shoot it well from beyond the arc. Playing better as of late--they have rattled off 3 wins in a row. Asher Gamble is a name you will be hearing in the future more often. 8. Raceland (16-8) - Trending downward. I just don't have faith in them when it comes to district play. Connor Thacker and Jonah Arnett have to be huge come tournament time for them to have a shot. 7. Rowan County (11-13) - Such a hard team to figure out. Could make noise in first round of district, could get blown out by 20. Could be a wild 61st district tourney if they get hot. 6. Elliott County (13-6) - One of the most fundamentally sound teams in the region. Everyone seems to know and accept their roles and plays non-selfish basketball. Going to be tough over next two years. 5. Lewis County (14-7) - One of the better defensive teams in the region. They are playing less selfishly than in the past. They have turned the keys over to Julian Puente and it's paying dividends. Sleeper pick to win the 63rd. 4. Russell (11-9) - They live and die by the 3-pointer. Starting to get hot when it matters most...late in the year. Teams have been giving Ryder Burgess to much space, and he is making them pay dearly from 3PT range. 3. Fleming County (15-8) - Scoring is not a problem for this team, but their resolve to play mainly zone defense worries me against good shooting teams. Has the talent to make a run, time will tell. 2. Boyd County (16-8) - Look out...they have won 9 in a row. Jacob Spurlock continues to put up dazzling numbers, and the emergence of big man Jackson Childers has been monumental. 1. Ashland (15-7) - Talent, talent and more talent. This is a team that loves the 3-ball. If they are on, it's very hard to beat them. Zander Carter is almost 60% from the field and averaging 24.2 PPG. Crazy numbers.

Not 16th Region (but close to home), I can’t help to mention how impressive it is for @FootballIronton to get their kids as many looks on the next level as they do. They really advocate for their guys. That’s what it’s all about!

🏀 BOYS/GIRLS With only three weeks left in the regular season, lots of factors are playing into how teams are going to finish this season. Some teams are getting players back and getting healthier, while other teams are battling key injuries. At this point in the season, anyone can beat anyone on any given night. Expect to see some upsets over the course of the next three weeks.

🏀 BOYS Raceland and Lewis was one of the most physical games of the season I’ve seen so far, very fun to watch. Rams run away 63-50 after two Lewis technical fouls late. Jonah Arnett goes 14/15 from the FT line and Jake Waller finishes with 17 points as Raceland improves to 15-5.

🏀 BOYS POWER RANKINGS---------------> 15. Fairview (4-13) - Long season in Westwood. Scoring has been minimal, and depth is a major issue. 14. Menifee (3-15) - It's been a rough ride for the Wildcats this year. They just don't have the numbers to compete. 13. West Carter (3-14) - When you combine injuries, inexperience and depth, it makes it tough. 12. Greenup County (5-11) - They are shotting 20% from 3PT range, and 60% from the FT line. Hard to win like that. 11. East Carter (5-10) - They just ended a 4 game losing streak, but they were close in each of those games. Good chance to finish strong with the end of the season schedule. 10. Bath County (6-9) - Currently on a 3-game win streak. Good win over Rowan on Thursday. Could surprise in district play. 9. Morgan County (7-9) - They shoot well from the FT line and can get hot from outside. Young team that will still have growing pains from time to time. 8. Russell (7-8) - They need more consistency in not turning the ball over. Really live and die from the 3PT line. Young and still has the potential to beat good teams on a good shooting night. 7. Rowan County (8-10) - Wildly inconsistent. Big wins over Boyd and Fleming, coupled with head scratching losses against Bath County and Floyd Central. Still figuring out how to consistently finish out games. 6. Elliott County (10-4) - Good young team with load of potential, they aren't ready for the big stage just yet. Defense has been solid all year and they can light it up from outside. 5. Raceland (14-5) - Great record, but other than Elliott they don't really have a signature win. Good chance to prove how good they are this week going into district play. 4. Lewis County (10-5) - Quality wins over Russell x2 and Rowan x2, and a close loss to Boyd. Big road test Wednesday at Raceland. 3. Fleming County (12-5) - Some really solid wins this season, they can shoot it well and play aggressive defense. A dark horse pick to make some big noise in regionals? 2. Boyd County (9-8) - Record is deceiving. They have battled injuries and played a brutal schedule. They are starting to get guys healthy just in time...watch out. 1. Ashland (13-5) - Excellent record against top tier competition. How will they match up against other elite teams in the state if they make it? Could win it all if they play like they have been lately.
