South Metro Fire Rescue is Advancing Emergency Care with Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI) Procedure As part of South Metro’s commitment to providing the highest quality of emergency care, we are proud to announce the enhanced capabilities of our paramedics, who are now equipped with the advanced life-saving tool of Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI). This procedure enables us to effectively manage patients’ airways during critical situations, ensuring their ability to breathe and receive adequate oxygen to sustain life. "In some instances, patients may experience breathing challenges that require assistance but make it difficult for paramedics to manage their airway effectively. RSI allows us to step in and support their breathing when they cannot manage it themselves, stabilizing them for transport to the hospital," said Dr. Jonathan Apfelbaum, Medical Director for South Metro Fire Rescue. This addition to our emergency medical toolkit reflects our unwavering commitment to saving lives and offering the best possible care to those in critical need. We recognize that every moment counts in these life-threatening situations, and we are proud to offer this advanced service to our community.

Update: Single Engine plane, Mooney 201 with one soul on board landed without landing gear down and slid off runway 35L. No injuries reported. @FlyCentennial will have any further information on the investigation.

Update: Fire is under control and contained to one unit. Cause of fire is under investigation.

Update: Occupants have been allowed to return to their residence. 1 unit with fire damage displacing 1 resident and 2 other units with water damage displacing 2 occupants. Cause of fire is under investigation, Investigators from the SMFR Fire Marshal’s Office are on scene. @ArapahoeSO is assisting with investigation.

Update: Fire is out. No injuries reported and fire investigators are on scene. Five engines, one truck and two medic units responded to the scene. Firefighters are working on mop up. Thank you @ParkerPolice for the support on this incident

Today, through a joint resolution in the Colorado House and Senate, Legislators unanimously voted to officially name a portion of Interstate 25 in memory of Chief Troy Jackson. The 5-mile stretch of I-25 between Belleview Avenue, mile marker 199.4, extending to mile marker 194.8 just north of the C-470 interchange, will officially be renamed the “Firefighters Memorial Highway in Memory of Chief Troy Jackson.” A special thank you to Representative Chad Clifford and Senators Bridges and Carson for their dedicated support and partnership in making this happen!  Next steps: Lori Jackson and the South Metro Professional Firefighters Foundation are now looking to gather donations to fund the creation and installation of the signs. UPDATE: Firefighters on scene have water on the fire and the incident is under control. At this time, crews are reporting there to be no fire extension into neighboring units and light smoke conditions are present in the attic. Units will remain on scene to perform overhaul operations.
