When I applied to medical school my undergrad institution told me they wouldn’t support my decision to apply. Today, I received an interview invite from the
#1
hospital in NJ and at a program I never thought would consider me.
Moral of the story never take no for an answer.
Hi! Just wanted to ✨reintroduce✨ myself. I am a queer🏳️🌈 first gen🎓 Puerto Rican🇵🇷 rising M4 in NJ applying ObGyn! I am interested in providing care to the LGBTQ+ and underserved communities. I’m just trying to give back to the community that helped mold me.

Received an impromptu interview invite this morning, but when I went to schedule the spots were full. Emailed the PC and she said she was holding a spot for me 🥺 it’s the little things that keep me going.
Just drove past the soup kitchen I used to go to every week with my family when I was growing up. Pretty emotional given the fact that I’m currently interviewing for residency positions. Never would have thought that this is where my life would have taken me.
I’m down 45 pounds from my heaviest weight & I just want to say I feel great! Just trying set myself up to be the best ObGyn resident I could possibly be 😊

Scrubbing in as primary surgeon on my first hysterectomy tomorrow. The growth over the last 3 months has been incredible. I am not the same physician I was 3 months ago. Thank you to all the patients that allow me to learn and grow each day!
Goodluck to all the

applicants out there today! Good vibes only. Remember that all you need is one ☝🏽keep your head up & don’t compare yourself to others!

IMO: do something that is most meaningful to you, something that you can speak to at interviews and “light up” when you do. It will show your potential employers your passion and not just a checking off a box or a way around a P/F grade 🤷🏽♂️
I was 5 years post HS & lost. I tried attending a 4yr university but couldn’t afford to pay and lost all of the credits I earned. Started from scratch at community college and worked my way towards my bachelors. Come this July I will be starting my first year in medical school.👨🏽⚕️
Finished two weeks of (paid) orientation today. Excited to be starting on the labor floor Monday 🙌🏽 thankful to be at a program that fosters a positive learning environment 🫶🏽

Hola mi gente!! I’m Edgar, a first gen Puerto Rican college graduate in biology! Currently a 2nd year medical student in NJ & the only 🇵🇷 on campus 🤘🏽Serving as president of LMSA & SGA President 😎

started a palliative care elective today & it’s so rewarding and humbling to be apart of these conversations. I can only hope that as I progress through my medical education, I never lose sight of the bigger picture and remain grounded and humbled by my upbringing 🥺
1. Queer latinx medical student in NJ. Representing for those under represented in medicine!
2. Looking forward to continue fighting for those without a voice!
3. Live your life to the fullest and don’t ever lose yourself.
Was nominated by my peers to be MS1 SGA class president. I’m honored that I was nominated, but honestly it’s just because I’m a loud Puerto Rican and don’t let anyone get away with bullshit.

Representation matters
Just submitted my Medical School Applications! This journey has been so stressful, but it’s all left to faith now!
Thank you to all who have supported me throughout this journey.
The best is yet to come.
uhh as a person who interviews candidates for medical school, this doesn’t add any value to the process. Do MEANINGFUL experiences! Light up when you talk about it. Don’t do something because you think it will increase your chances. Do it, because you’re passionate.
The amount of personal growth and development I’ve done over the course of 12 weeks during my three sub-I’s is crazy. I used to doubt myself and think I’m not capable, but clearly I am!!! I know there is so much more to learn & this is just the beginning 🙌🏽
