Looks so nice but is such a short sighted move. Implies that MPs who don't donate their salaries are being mean spirited. No - most need them to live on. Do we want to return to the pre 1910s when only the rich could afford to be MPs? MPs deserve their wages and should take them.
First monthly net MP salary donated (to be topped up next time as just shy of a full month paid).
A campaign promise - I am delivering.
Every penny of my net MP salary will be donated to local charities/worthy causes. First to a local football club to renovate vital facilities!

Freedom to speak out against human rights abuses is an issue that is cross-party, cross nation, and shows the very best of what politics achieves.
The MPs and other British citizens sanctioned by China today are performing a vital role shining a light on the gross human rights violations being perpetrated against Uyghur Muslims.
Freedom to speak out in opposition to abuse is fundamental and I stand firmly with them.

🇪🇺the Parliament Act and sunset clauses on EU regulation,
💻how working from home is a middle class privilege, 🎤and of course Eurovision.
Proposals to ban drivers under 25 from driving with passengers is another bizarre proposal that shows how intent we are on preventing family formation. The Westminster bubble can’t comprehend that plenty of 25 year olds are parents who ferry their children around.
A classic example of middle class feminism that hones in on the minute problems facing women and ignores the real issues - domestic violence, FGM, forced marriage to name a few.
Those labels are not barriers for women. They are not. How about tackle forced marriage, the burka, FGM, domestic violence perhaps? This is literally the most vacuous podcast I’ve ever listened to, and I’ve listened to a lot.
An American study: for families in equal poverty, children with married parents had a 30% point lead – an 80% chance – of leaving poverty compared to those with cohabiting parents.
We owe it to the most disadvantaged in society to not be silent on the benefits of marriage.
Married couples separate less. After controlling for income, 88% of married couples were still together when their child was 5, compared to 67% for cohabitees.
This is a social justice issue. Of the top quintile of income 84% tie the knot, in the bottom quintile only 45 % do.
If you loved this (most people did) check out some great charities and social enterprises that support families and children in and around the care system.

has stooped to such a low. Not only a huge waste of staffers time and tax payers money but also a very shoddy research ethic. Small sample size (650 max), no controls and poorly designed study. How did this pass the ethics committee?
MPs and their staff are genuinely overloaded with a pandemic and dealing with cases that deeply matter to individuals lives, like housing and abuse.
Kings College, LSE, and all involved should be deeply ashamed of sending fake casework to them during a pandemic. It's a disgrace.

It’s time to embrace life, not death; to acknowledge that in an uncertain world, there will always be risk, and doubt, and danger; that hiding away from your loved ones, as another year breathes its last... is no life at all, only death postponed.
After my GCSEs I went to Albania to volunteer in a holiday camp. The heat on Kirstie and her son shows a steady de-risking of childhood and delayed adolescence, setting our kids up for increased anxiety and fear of the world. Social services are busy enough with serious cases.
This just isn’t true, teens are allowed to travel, the interail pass is available to anyone from 12 to 27. The view that young people are somehow bound by law to stay in their bedrooms on their phones unless they go out hand in hand with their parents is so desperately depressing
Great to see the Duchess continuing her championing of the early years. The best way to support development in the early years is for parents to have healthy committeed relationships between themselves. Early years policy must look at family structure too.

I remember a time in primary school when the only shoes I had were school shoes. I felt acutely embarrassed when I wore my school shoes to own clothes day. I’m very glad this wasn’t every day. School uniforms can be a great equaliser it cheap and practical.
School uniforms & poverty:
1.Uniform cost should never be a barrier. Keep them cheap & ensure families have resources.
2. Non uniform days often awful for poorer kids.
3. Schools should be proportionate overall & NEVER exclude/humiliate kids because of impacts of low incomes.
In the noise around the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, one proposal has slipped below the radar: pilots of problem solving courts. These courts are a multi-agency approach (specialising in drug, alcohol or domestic violence) with a record of reducing reoffending.
Its intuitive that single people are more lonely than couples. More surprising is that married people are less lonely that cohabitees.

Too many people want to be MPs because they think it sounds like a prestigious job.
@EdwardJDavey
is an example of someone driven by a *why*. We need more MPs driven by a desire to change something rather than just the job title.
Caring isn’t just my family's story, it is the story of millions, caring for each other, dealing with tough times, and keeping going with love.
Sharing our story hasn't been easy, but it's important. It's time to bring carers' experiences into the light.
Early years, early years, early years. Keep saying it, keep funding it, keep talking about how families are the most important investment a Government can make.

I’ve often felt that it’s hard to fully champion the early years as I’m not a parent, but the Duchess is spot on: if we only care about early years when we have children, it’s too late. It must be everyone’s responsibility and there couldn’t be a better champion. Just love HRH.

Rethinking/reframing.
If you’re more certain about wanting to be an MP than you are about the issues you want to solve then you probs shouldn’t be an MP.
For those who are the opposite, how do we create the conditions for them to become MPs more easily & make it less toxic?

Preening over a low expense record can be damaging and plays to a public that doesn't understand MPs costs - a large proportion of which goes on staff wages. Do we want those standing for election to feel they have to refuse legitimate expense claims in order to appear virtuous?
I notice the debate on here about why my expenses are so low. Simply I don't claim and never have. I am conscious this is tax payers money, and many struggle to pay. I prefer Government spending on a public sector pay rise - something the Chancellor forgot about on budget day.
Good to see the architect of Universal Credit calling for the retaining of the £20 uplift - framing it not as a problem to be solved, but as an investment in a system that can turn people’s lives around.

Same. This is not about moralising, but giving people an informed choice about the type of relationship they want to pursue. Marriage and cohabitating relationships are not interchangeable in terms of their outcomes for children. The government must stop pretending they are.
