As you turn 30 this year, remember that Buhari got into power when you were 23. Also remember that whoever you vote in will leave power when you’re 38. The choice of both your life and your child’s life is yours to make.
I am at LUTH and the number of people that have come to donate blood for the
#EndSARS
movement shows that the government doesn’t know what it’s facing. A lot of young people here are showing their support by giving their blood.
#LekkiMassacre
What meaning does the Nigerian flag represent to the average Nigerian? Kenyan activists have been presenting the Kenyan flag to the families of those killed during the protests. It’s resonant of a military culture. In this case it shows the height of nationalism in these protests
My next advice to Kenyan youths, start your own digital newspaper. Have a full active press wing. Deliver this newspaper across social media platforms and in different languages if possible.
This is why PO went to court in his name and not just as LP. Same thing he did in APGA. APGA left him alone to face the court case and went to align with the PDP.
Ghanaians are going through it. Apparently their president is as useless as the one we have here. At least jollof rice isn’t the only thing we have in common. They voted out their last president who served for one term, and voted in this one who speaks to them in French proverbs.
Nigerians planned a protest and the chief of army staff was issuing out threats. The police was giving press briefings daily. Now a group of doctors have been kidnapped and there’s radio silence. Maybe we should hit the streets tomorrow. This is not normal!!!
Three years ago, Don-Chima and Segun Rasaq had been accused of gang-raping a 23-year-old lady at the De Lankaster Hotel and Suites (owned by Don-Chima’s father); it went viral. . . The case was adjourned to May 18, 2021.
Nigerians telling Zambians they shouldn’t be too happy after elections is hilarious. You voted in a known dictator and voted out a democratic president. Zambia voted out a dictatorship and voted in someone whose track record so far has been commendable in the private sector.
lol you land at MMIA, your immigration officers in full uniform at the entrance of your country are taxing foreigners. You drive past & see policemen wielding AK 47s stopping young men and demanding money while in full uniform. You enter home, no electricity! Please be serious!
I hate when Nigerians speak ill of Nigeria to foreigners as a conversation starter or filler. I’m not saying sugarcoat it. But come on, that can not be your crutch to hold conversations. Agbaya.
Pelumi Onifade’s body is still there held by the Lagos State government. The last time I spoke with his dad and mom, the government was tossing them from one requirement to another. These parents just wanted to bury their son and move on with life.
Nigerians keep seeing the kind of charlatans they elected into office. A simple demand like
#EndSARS
has shown the cluelessness of those in power. Now they want to meet you in panels when they are attacking protestors. Let’s not be naive.
#EndPoliceBrutalityinNigera
One thing to note about the Kenyan elections is how independent candidates are winning positions outside of party affiliations. In Nigeria, we would still be talking of structure. There is a lot to learn from the system in Kenya. Nigeria's politics is unnecessarily burdensome.
Lessons Kenyans can take from EndSARS:
1. Guard the movement against those who are eager to do media rounds than to protest.
2. Keep celebrities and musicians in the background. The protests belong to everyone, no priorities.
3. Stick to the messaging and don’t falter.
All my life in Kenya I only saw military men twice. Our first landlord was an Air Force Officer. The other was a friend’s father, a Major in the army. I never ever heard sirens wail or see them mount checkpoints. The contrast with Nigeria is huge where the military is everywhere.
When the
@HQNigerianArmy
claimed not to be at the Lekki Toll Gate, they forgot there were survivors. Two friends of one of such survivor came to social media to criticize the Army.
@fisayosoyombo
reveals that the two friends were killed three days apart.
One of my first observations when I came to Nigeria as a teenager was how power in all its manifestations was central to the culture. The power wasn’t necessarily to do good, but rather as a show. You see this from the security guard to the bank managers and politicians.
@kdngbale
Welcome. He’s being underestimated which is good. But I’m sure that the govt will make a grievous mistake and make him more popular. They don’t know how to deal with this situation.
His name is Ridwan Oshodi. He’s been in this condition and despite promises to help no one has come forth. Please you can send your donations to his mom, This is her account number.

Every year academic books and research on World Wars 1 and 2 are produced. But write about the Nigerian Civil war and everyone says we’ve had enough books on it. We’ve not dug enough on the civil war and neither have we addressed it properly. We tend not to address issues here.
The number of Sudanese killed during the Sudan Revolution were probably more than those killed during the EndSARS protests. One shouldn’t compare deaths. The Sudanese are however back on the streets. The Nigerians are back to Finesse, lucky come lucky go.
There is a reason why Chief Obafemi Awolowo will forever remain relevant and important in the South West. He educated a whole generation of poor people who would otherwise never have been able to pay school fees. That changed everything about education in the South West.
Twitter is a mob. Know this and know peace. The mob only quietens after the last flame has burned the body. After the deed has been done, that’s when the questions start. We’ve been deceived that twitter is a place for smart people, it’s not. We are no different from the streets.
Focus on the dictatorship you put in power and stop projecting your failed leadership on other country’s elections. Yes, so much in Africa is the same politically, but Zambians at least are not voting a reformed democrat. If HH fails on the job, that’s on him, not Zambians.
It is important we follow up hashtags. The hashtag that was used was
#JusticeForRapeInNigeria
but since then there have been more hashtags and less follow ups. One of the things I love about
@fijnigeria
is how we follow up on cases. And we'll be following up on this too.
The grassroots support Laycon has garnered is something else. He’s captured both those on the streets and those online. This is the kind of movement needed to change governance in Nigeria. But that reality is different.
Dear Kenyans, kindly compile a list of the names of every Kenyan hero who was killed by Ruto. Secondly start a harambee to clear the hospital bills of everyone who was shot, Kenyans in diaspora should step in massively. Thirdly, as you prepare for Thursday be more prepared.
When this case happened, everyone tweeted about it. Even
@BankyW
promised to follow up on this case. When I attended the court proceedings there was no single person asides the families of the accused. Their lawyer is Tunji Ayanlaja (SAN), who had represented Bode George in 2009.
“When we were going to challenge INEC’s declaration of Dr. Ngige as the winner of the governorship election, our plan was to file the case in the name of APGA,” he said. “But Onyechi refused and said I must file the case in my own name.
@ElleKavuka
I guess I should have worded my statement better. I meant that giving flags to families who lose loved ones is mostly a tradition within the military.
The role of Israel on this continent is really not highlighted as it should. They are responsible for training elite forces for dictators, who then unleash those forces on the civilian population. It’s been going on for long from Liberia to Uganda.
For
@thecontinent_
I write about how the
@HQNigerianArmy
hates to admit when its soldiers are killed in action. Instead, a growing number of soldiers are declared ‘missing in action’, with families kept waiting indefinitely to learn their true fate. Read:
It’s as if many of you have forgotten the list of atrocities this government has done. I understand that the atrocities are too many we can’t keep count. But let’s not forget how for the past 7 years the quality of our lives has drastically changed for the worse.
The DPP is about to bangle up the case. The father of Rasaq Oluwasegun Oke also known as Ricco, is Chief Lanre Rasaq, a strong All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and a close friend of the APC National leader, Bola Asiwaju Tinubu. He died from Covid-19 last year.
Do you remember the rape case involving two rich kids that’s being bungled in Lagos — with the DPP complicit? The hearing is today at 9a.m. at the Lagos High Court.
"Peter Obi came into the political limelight
in 2006, when he seemed to have come out

Do you know what it means to label young Nigerians who are in the
#EndSARS
protests as partaking in an insurrection especially in a country with a history like Odi and Zaki-Biam? You are legitimizing the use of the military on peaceful protests because of your insatiable ego?
This is such an important work
@DavidHundeyin
has done. It is fucking scary that
@amnesty
is ignoring the collaboration between
@AmnestyNigeria
and the Department of State Security. Amnesty Nigeria can no longer be trusted in the fight for human rights.
Interesting conversation on my way to work today. Everybody is feeling the pinch of Buhari’s governance. The scales seem to have fallen off the eyes of many Nigerians.
throw in the towel, even if you hold a contrary opinion. File the case in your name; you contested the election. Only you can legitimately dictate whether or not to go the whole hog.’”
Excerpt from “Peter Obi: As Tough as Nails” by PO’s former Chief of Staff Chuks Iloegbunam.
The Sudanese started protests in December 2018 and lasted for 8 months. Guess when the world started paying attention. Around April of 2019. Do you know how many people had died by then? And this was under a full blown dictatorship. On June 3, they recorded the Khartoum massacre.
Either Putin cancels his BRICS trip to SA or the South African government is mandated to arrest him as a signatory to the statute that founded the ICC. Russia says it will go to war with any country that arrests Putin.
So during the Liberian civil war, the US sent 4 warships to Liberia with 2,000 marines who evacuated US citizens and other foreign nationals. They didn’t care for Samuel Doe or Charles Taylor or the people of Liberia. This is enough to tell you what to expect during crisis.
When the military become part of the civilian space, a lot changes very fast. The fabric of the country and the resultant psychological effect on the whole nation takes years to wean off. You no longer become a country that believes in dialogue, you become a country that believes
Nigerian intellectuals saw voters suppression by the ruling party at polling booths, saw voters disenfranchised by INEC and still defended the results as democratic. Giant of Africa that has no moral compass.
There’s something about the lack of imagination in this country once people see something has worked for someone. And that’s why we chase exclusivity so much. Always looking for format to fame or riches. Same thing in governance, total lack of imagination.

I was talking to a friend about property rights in Nigeria then remembered this 88-Year-old woman, Madam Gbolade, who I met in 2021. She has been batting with Land-Grabbers in the Nigerian courts for over 30 years. They’re waiting for her to die.
If there’s anything I learned from
@fisayosoyombo
as pertaining journalism in Nigeria, never ever consider having friends in government. Don’t eat their food. Don’t take their money. Don’t banter with them. There’s something about power and how it easily compromises people.
With the military there is no rule of law. The judiciary becomes pocketed and justice is erased. For Kenya, and Kenyans, the military should be restricted and returned to the barracks.
It was so interesting for me to see in the Kenyan elections that a former governor of Nairobi wanted to contest for governorship of Mombasa. And another former governor of Nairobi contested for governorship of Nyanza. You dare not try this in Nigeria!
The
@NgLabour
should réalisé that if it wants to survive beyond the usual APCPDP comparison, it must evolve how it interacts with the youths and take ideas on how to reform the party. A ton of people can give ideas on how to generate money without making forms expensive.
Your life in Nigeria is literally defined by these struggles. These issues are conversation starters on their own & they’re a reflection of the ills in society many are going through. You can’t start conversations on issues you don’t have, unless we’re exercising our imagination
Lagos State planned on getting Pelumi Onifade’s petition thrown out of the Judicial Panel.
Onifade’s case was brought before the AG and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN. However, the state is bent on getting the case dismissed.
Take a Ruto over a military rule. Take a Kalonzo or Raila over a military rule. The military have historically shown in this continent that they can’t be trusted. Generals listen to their ego, not the people. The military never leaves once they’re in the business of civilians.
This continent tires me tbh. We should have learnt from what happened when the floods in Zimbabwe, Ghana and Mozambique coincided with the fire at Notre Dame. Which place received more attention? Where did money go to first? Where did your Presidents first send condolences?
@Aristoplatonic2
No Kenya never witnessed a military rule. There was an attempted coup which failed. But never a military rule. Mostly civilian dictatorship.
When the government of a country starts demanding patriotism from its citizens, the country is either at war, under a dictatorship, or is in economic shambles. All three apply to Nigeria.
“When we were going to challenge INEC’s declaration of Dr. Ngige as the winner of the governorship election, our plan was to file the case in the name of APGA,” he said. “But Onyechi refused and said I must file the case in my own name.
When a Colonel was killed by a former student at Command Secondary School Ibadan, no one said all the students should be killed. But you want a whole village wiped out instead of finding the culprits? We are in a democracy no matter how terrible it seems.
Writing is hard! Great writing takes years of consistency, and thinking and reading and rewriting. Making a sentence as clean as a bone is like shining a shoe after you’ve polished it. You keep brushing and rubbing the same spot until it’s glossy and reflects light.
The Nigerian gov’t, through the office of the Presidency, reached out to the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) to discuss plans to build an internet firewall, FIJ has learnt. The gov’t had also in the past reached out to
@bellingcat
for OSINT.
I didn’t immediately see his point because, apart from not being a lawyer, I assumed that since I contested the election on APGA’s platform, the party must file the case. Onyechi refused and said no. ‘If APGA filed the case, they might run out of steam during the proceedings and
I’ll be speaking to the BBC Radio tomorrow morning. Is there anyone who was at the Lekki Toll gate who can talk to me? We need to tell the world what’s going on.
in force and decrees. What further erodes is your sense of dignity and your belief in the system. Corruption becomes worse and mediocrity becomes a mainstay.
I have lived in both countries for an almost equal amount of time, and the differences are huge despite how bad Kenya is.
Anyway since you’re here please follow

the new literary kid on the block.
Also, Ghanaians vote wisely in your next elections. Young Africans must get more involved in politics.
How is this different from what Peter Obi said? At some point we’ll have to write reflective essays to understand how we might be bigoted even if we think we’re being objective.
In a bid to mitigate the impact of removing illegal structures built on the canal path and alignment along system 156 (Orchid Estate - Ajiran - Agungi), the SA on Environment, Hon. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, the PS ODS, Engr. Shodeinde, myself and other Directors met with the
APC had more sense as opposition party than PDP. Never seen two useless parties stressing 200 million people this way. Young people need to start their own parties, fund it and do the needful. We can’t keep on this way. Building a party isn’t easy, but we must start somewhere.
I remember when
@Kdenkss
made some statements about African climate change activists and everyone was coming for him. Now we see Europe blasting its coal stations because of national interests. The people in power will always act in their interest while dictating to others.
Let me tell you how crazy it is in Kenya that even in Nigeria when women do certain things we are cheering. Go to KQ and see how many female pilots you’ll find. Or even in the military. Kenyan women tbh are amazing and do great stuff that you’d think it’s normal elsewhere.
It's crazy how stuff that's normal in Kenya like an all black, female theatre room is a big deal for African Americans.
Especially in light of today's SCOTUS decision.
Our experiences in life are very different, and hence the context of many discussions.
Anyway, it’s time to write the story of Hassan Taiwo Soweto, who got admission into OAU at 16, was imprisoned by the DSS for his campus activism at Ilesha Prison for 9 months, suspended by the university administration and graduated 10 years later with a second class upper.
Did El Rufai condole with the families of the Shi’ites killed in Kaduna? Did he act on the report? All the time people were killed in Southern Kaduna what was his response. So unfortunate to see foolish youths rally behind this cosmetic display of empathy.
CONDOLENCE: Malam Nasir
@elrufai
and HH Muhammadu Sanusi II today visited Tudun Biri, Igabi LGA of Kaduna State, to condole with the people in the aftermath of the bombing of the community.
6. Recall targeted parliamentarians if possible to set an example.
7. Create your own website and document everything there. Control your own media.
8. Have a post-protest plan.

What I love most about the Kenyan/Nigerian comparisons is how Nigerians are realizing other ‘smaller’ countries are way better. 3 to 4 years ago on Twitter the rivalry was mostly colorist and ignorant. Seems more Nigerians have visited Kenya within that short time.
Played Brymo’s music for my cousin and aunt. Dem wan mad. My aunt kept asking is he Nigerian? The gospel according to Brymo. Dem go hear am. Coachella go soon knock for door.
Lagos is not even as diverse as Nairobi where Indians own estates you can’t even rent as a Kenyan. Imagine the Maasai’s coming out to say everyone must leave Nairobi. The current governor of Nairobi is not even Maasai. This ethnic whistling is a distraction from the real issues.
In Kenya and Nigeria we are seeing a very stupid rhetoric that emphasizes on wishing the government well as a form of patriotism when the government itself is failing glaringly due to lack of action and leadership.
You can compare this to what 28 year old Tom Mboya did when he started the Kennedy Airlift for many Kenyans who studied in the U.S. A product of such airlift was Obama's father. That singular action in education changed many things. Education still remains a pathway to success.
You can draw a parallel between Nigeria’s and South Korea’s history. Had coups around the same time in the 60s but major difference was leadership. They had a sound leader who understood the importance of building an economy. We had leaders who understood eating the economy.
Just want to remind you guys that Pelumi Onifade’s body was held at the morgue for 2 years . His parents cried to Jide to release his body for them to bury, I don’t think the body has been released.
4. Havé a plan to keep the movement going after 2024 with clear goals towards electoral control and victory in 2027 or you end up with a Tinubu equivalent.
5. Make sure the villages and interior parts outside Nairobi are adequately mobilized and educated on the bill.
Nigerians never fought for independence with armed struggle so it’s easy why violence isn’t an option meted out to politicians. In fact Nigerians will demand you speak to politicians respectfully even when there’s no light or water or fuel.
My Kenyan friends never seem to understand how well run their country is when compared to a country like Nigeria. They’ve been deceived by Nollywood to think Nigeria is rich. Vitu kwa ground ni tofauti. I hope Kenyans will fight to keep their country relatively sane.
This almost brought me to tears. For the past 3 years this family has been suffering. Thank you
@SavvyRinu
,
@Ridwanullahii
and many others who contributed to helping this family and giving them respite.
Of all the mistakes Kenya should make regarding governance, it should never consider the military as an option to taking over civilian roles. Keep the military in the barracks, or at the war front. But never allow the military in civilian spaces, it never ends well.
Two things about
@fijnigeria
if there’s no certainty of a source and evidence, the report won’t be published. Secondly, once a story is published, it never comes down. You went to shake the hornets nest.
A thread of my opinion pieces for
@fijnigeria
"The EndSARS movement was a generational confrontation to injustice. But after the massacre of the Shi’ites had been excused, what really made us think the Lekki massacre would not be excused?"
Riots in France and everyone is blaming the Third World citizens. But in Mali in 1961, who burnt schools, hospitals, buses and livestock? You sow the wind and reap the whirlwind.
Yesterday I spent time with Ridwan Oshodi and his mother, Muibat Oshodi. Ridwan was shot a day after the
#LekkiMassacre
and couldn’t walk for a year. His mom sold her land, did contributions to pay for surgery. Ridwan looks so much better now. But it’s been a terrible journey.
In my debut for
@Aso_times
I write about the role of
@inecnigeria
in disenfranchising voters. The problem we had wasn’t low voters turnout but rather INEC’s incompetence.
@inecnigeria
failed to address the crucial problem of undertrained staff & instead focused on technology.
The way western analysts come to their condescending conclusions is interesting to see. None of them pays attention to what’s really happening on ground. At the very least many African youths will support what offers hope. The West has consistently been involved in coups here.
Two thoughts prompted by clips like the one from
@AFP
showing a rally Sunday of 30K

🇳🇪 coup supporters: (1) the sheer demographics of youth in the

; (2) lack of education & opportunity leads them to back folly that will set them back more. Sad!
