today i gave a lecture on deficit thinking in schools and the persistent ideology that working-class children use language which is simple, restricted, and limited. then we looked at @SnellJulia's amazing and important work which shows how those labels are entirely false. ā

Glad to see inclusion of my pt that oracy āshould not be framed as a targeted intervention to support working-class or marginalised students to adopt the language practices of a privileged groupā. Oracy has many benefits but resolving structural inequalities is not one! 2/2
