If you're here for
#Mothman
, then The Lake Michigan Mothman and Strange Tales of the Impossible are for you. But don't sleep on our Yuletide Guide to High Strangeness. You'll want to prepare yourself for that magical time of year.
Find them here:
I picked up this book at a Scholastic Book Fair when I was a kid and read it over and over until the pages wore out. My interest in monsters began at a very young age, and I'm thankful to have always had resources like that book fair to help indulge it.
I just wanted to say how much I appreciate all of the support I've received since 'The
#Mothman
Revisited' aired yesterday. I am beyond grateful to these witnesses for having the courage to tell their stories publicly and to
#UnsolvedMysteries
for giving them a platform to do so.
Never forget that the original Star Wars trilogy was about a group of rebels fighting to overthrow a fascist dictatorship. Now take that energy out into the world and have a happy
#StarWarsDay
!
What's a
#paranormal
hill that you're willing to die on? Mine is that the nature of experiential evidence is such that it is unreasonable to expect anyone to find the same meaning in our experiences as we do. No one is obligated to believe any particular narrative without proof.
Today's the day! Now that the new season of
#UnsolvedMysteries
has aired, I can finally share this decorative bowl made for me by witness Jonathan Lane depicting their experience. I'm honored to have this piece of
#Mothman
history in my library!
Based on this photo of the
#moon
I took last night with my new phone, I should be prepared for any flying saucers or other
#UFOs
I encounter in the field.
I spent all night reading about electromagnetism and EMF detectors, and I'm more convinced than ever that they have nothing to do with paranormal activity.
It was quite an experience to hike out into the Kettle Moraine State Forest and conduct a
#CE5
session to facilitate contact with
#UFOs
. The weirdest part? It actually worked.
I had a dream visitation last night from a friend who passed away several years ago. He told me that he was okay, but also that we were okay. All of the regrets I held (he died unexpectedly) needed to be let go. I didn't realize how much I needed to hear that.
It's easy to become cynical in the
#paranormal
, especially with all of the BS spread by "big names" with even bigger follower counts, but let's get positive today. What's something that keeps you researching and investigating these subjects?
If you understand nothing else about me, understand this: I am not an entertainer. I didn't join the
#paranormal
field to achieve celebrity. I'm here because I feel called to be. Not everyone will understand this, but it's the truth.
So, this was weird: I just watched a bright, white light travel east across the sky for 30+ seconds before gradually growing dimmer and then disappearing. Of course I didn't record it because I assumed it was a satellite or something, at least until it disappeared.
#ufosighting
Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me with a report since
#UnsolvedMysteries
aired last week. I have received an overwhelming amount of correspondence, but I'm working on it. My hope is to respond to everyone within a week of being contacted. Please be patient! 🙂
I feel like so many of my paranormal colleagues have been proceeding with work like we're not in a pandemic, and it's messing with my head because I feel so far behind, but we're still months away from widespread vaccination and I can't pretend like everything's fine before then.
Please don't confuse my speculation with belief. Something I think the
#paranormal
field could use more of are people capable of entertaining an idea without fully accepting it. The fact is, we don't definitively know anything about these reported phenomena. 1/
I've been unfollowing a disappointing number of people recently since the current conservative zeitgeist has apparently empowered them to say some truly ignorant shit about trans people.
Trans friends: I'm here. I see you. You're not alone. You have a right to exist.
If you're actually interested in
#UFOs
and what happens to the people who see them, please stop referring witnesses to MUFON. All that does is ensure that they are interrogated by someone who will make certain their experience goes unheard. Secrecy is anathema to discovery.
Don't be afraid to remove people from your social media who only ever interact to argue with you. It's okay to want to be supported on here. You don't owe a thing to those waiting in the wings to bring you down.
#Paranormal
television has conditioned people to expect a lot of "results" from investigations, and I gotta tell ya, that's difficult when you're not willing to fake it.
Things I wish I could impress upon people interested in the
#paranormal
: not everyone with an opinion is qualified to have it, and visibility is not the same as expertise.
This summer is all about rediscovering joy and reminding myself why I got into the
#paranormal
in the first place. Time to forget the toxic people and arguments, and just enjoy the magic of skywatching at midnight or adventuring in the forgotten places where monsters still live.
There are people who will accuse you of not being fun for pointing out falsehoods in the
#paranormal
field, but personally, I think perpetuating bullshit is way more of a bummer.
#ufotwitter
is debating whether or not to believe experiencers, but I don't think that's the right approach. I treat witnesses as though their experience is authentic unless I have evidence to the contrary, but even assuming that's true, I still don't know what to believe.
Let me clear up some general misconceptions about the Lake Michigan Mothman investigation:
1. I have a good working relationship with Sam Maranto, and we communicate about the investigation regularly.
No matter what you do, some folks just won't like you. That doesn't make them a bad person, although they might be, but more importantly, it doesn't make you one. You're not other people's opinions of you. Remember that.
You know those vague posts where people talk about going to work on an upcoming project that they're excited about but can't give any details because they signed an NDA? This is one of those.
We lost a handful of followers on Facebook after sharing Emily's artwork for 'The Feminine Macabre,' which is pretty disappointing, but honestly, anybody who'd unfollow us over that wasn't open-minded enough to be following us in the first place.
If
#ufotwitter
has shown us anything, it's the importance of things in your life outside of the
#paranormal
. Have other hobbies, start a family, be active in your community; anything tangible. I've seen what happens to people who devote their whole life to this and it ain't good.
So, apparently, the FAA will neither confirm nor deny the existence of the records I wanted regarding a
#ufosighting
had by a pilot because they're of "investigatory interest" to the federal government. So yeah, that's not suspicious or anything.
#ufotwitter
#UFO
I bet
@OxfordPropGroup
didn't expect to be internet famous for this, but you know, soulless corporate monsters aren't known for their self-awareness. 🤦♂️
So much of the
#paranormal
field really needs to hear this. Community and collaboration over cattiness and competition should be the standard. Treating this like a branch of the entertainment industry isn't getting us any closer to discovery.
I am not in competition with you, you are not in competition with me.
This world is big enough for all of us.
No one will ever see things the way I see them, nor present things the exact way I present them. And the same goes for you. Shine in your own unique, incomparable way
Occasionally, I disappear from social media for days at a time, because that's the only way I can be on here at all and keep my sanity. If I ever leave and never come back, I hope someone starts a rumor that I was abducted by faeries or fell through a hole into the Hollow Earth.
Thank you to everyone who has been so positive and helped me through my anxiety over this conference. Things have gone very well and I can't tell you how much it means to me that you lent me your support by responding to my previous tweet. You're all the best.
Just in time for Halloween, several state attorneys general have issued warnings to parents to be on the lookout for marijuana edibles that can easily pass as regular candies and snacks.
One of the hardest parts of being a
#paranormal
investigator is reserving judgment until you have enough information to make a determination. I see this all the time among both believers and debunkers who lock in on an explanation. We need to normalize saying "I don't know."
People on the internet: "Hey, do you mind answering some questions that I could easily find for myself if I'd bothered to read the article you posted?"
Me:
I second this. I'd also like for folks to recognize that men can be abused by both men and women, and that dismissing such abuse reinforces patriarchal archetypes and toxic masculinity by forcing us to hide our emotions. So like, please don't make fun of male victims of abuse.
Years ago I was physically abused in a relationship. That's a big part of why it was so devastating for me to be falsely accused of misogyny in 2020. It brought back all the old feelings of anxiety and helplessness. We have got to normalize men being able to talk about abuse.
“Tell the world Johnny, tell them Johnny Depp, I Johnny Depp, a man, I'm a victim too of domestic violence, and see how many people believe or side with you”
- Amber Heard, 2016.
- Johnny Depp, 2022…
The only reliable tools we seem to have to detect and record
#paranormal
phenomena are human perception and memory; neither is recognized by science as an objective device with which to do so. /1
I'm writing our next book for
@singularfortean
and I've noticed a correlation between nighttime visitation (not sleep paralysis), other paranormal events, and psychic phenomena. There's this theme of interruption that seems to span a huge variety of cases, too.
Mothman is not a harbinger of doom and sightings thereof have no connection whatsoever with any unrelated tragedies which happen to occur in their vicinity.
Sometimes, I'm reminded of the celebrity entertainer types in this field who I wrongly thought were my friends, and it's pretty depressing to think of being so wrong about people I once liked. But then I think about how many amazing, authentic friends I've made and feel better.
This violent, transphobic nonsense has no place in our community. The best time for
@Jchawes
to apologize was when it was posted. The 2nd best time is now. Be better.
