We are heartbroken to announce that Simpson's Tavern, Londons oldest Chophouse has been forced to close through the cynical actions of our landlord (Tavor Holdings Ltd, incorporated in Bemuda) and their agents (Hartnell Taylor Cook Ltd). Crowdfunding starts today
We felt that a great crime against
#cityoflondon
was committed when
#hartnelltayorcook
unlawfully forfeited us to engineer a freehold sale in 2022
Sadly now we are a crime scene
We can only look on as the decline is ignored and our offer to purchase rejected
#shame
It feels a little like the start today
We have been unlawfully forfeited and unlawfully wound up
But today, we have fought the winding up and won. This means we can now fight the forfeiture.....which we will also win
It's a long road, but we will get there

So sad to visit Simpsons and see the lights out and the dining rooms cold as Christmas celebrations ring out in the surrounding bars
We have been in talks with the Landlord (thats why we've been a bit quiet) and hope for a Christmas miracle
We will update more soonest!
We are delighted to announce that once again, Tavor Holdings & Hartnell Taylor Crooks have failed in their attempt to Wind up Simpsons Tavern
Yesterday's hearing of the Winding up petition was unsuccessful and continues to underline the ill-advised & poorly executed strategy
Many thanks to
@Look_UpLondon
for keeping us informed (it was their actions that notified me)
Glad to see Simpsons Tavern made safe (?) but it still hurts to see her in such disrepair
We will update our solicitor tomorrow & attempt to seek visitation

The sorry state of
@SimpsonsTavern
this morning. The Landlord, developers and
@HartnellTaylorC
should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this historic building (grade II listed by
@HistoricEngland
no less) to fall in disrepair.
How it started
How it's going

@cityoflondon
6 years ago, the building was bought as advised by

Today we remain closed, despite agreeing on arrears terms in November.
Why?
Thank you
@guardian
for raising the essential point:
"A city that can't save an institution like Simpsons is no sort of City at all"
We are a viable business of 265 years being extorted by
@HartnellTaylorC
Cultural Vandalism
This must not stand

We are delighted to announce we have raised over £100,000 through crowd funding
Thank you
Thank you
100,000 times Thank you
During this dark period, the only light we can see is the incredible support we have recieved
We are staying in this fight to preserve history
*BREAKING NEWS*
@HartnellTaylorC
are refusing to discuss reopening
Despite terms being met and award of ACV
A Whitby Smith clients approach for the freehold demands vacant possession closing Simpsons Tavern
We are ready to reopen. They will not allow it. This is wrong

Overjoyed to see
@cityoflondon
unanimously pass the application for ACV status
Thanks to
@PeterDunphy1
for his stewarding of this
We will remind
@HartnellTaylorC
that we are ready to open Simpsons Tavern as soon as they see sense and advise their client properly
#nobrainer
Another week passes & the doors remain locked
Another week passes & Tavor Holdings remain unregistered & unaccountable
Another week passes & Hartnell Taylor Cook advise Simpsons is best closed
Another week passes, but at least we are a week closer to justice.
See you in court

We are in meetings all week to protect our brand and IP, engage litigation & take back what is ours
Cannot wait to get my teeth into 2023!
It's is difficult to see those images, knowing that we should have been brimming with celebrations
It is heartless to have cut us out of Christmas
@HartnellTaylorC
As the City tries to reinvigorate itself, it is places like ours that will be at the centre of why people return
It's poignant looking in the windows of

We could have traded through, as many allowed & would have paid off the Covid arrears by now
Instead we're paying Lawyers to sue the Landlords for unlawful acts
So sad to see

The bitterness at unlawful closure is adding fire to our bellies
HTC and their incompetent handling here are being shown in court to be equitably & procedurally wrong.
We should have been allowed to trade through this dispute & I am confident they will pay for not allowing it
From all of us here, we wish you the Merriest of Christmases
We only wish we could have shared some of it with you. Raised a glass, sung a song - stole a Sausage. Hopefully, next year
I cannot help and be a little honest - because as much as this fight is to .....

After the flurry of excitement of victory, it is back to the slow legal grind
All the while, the Tavern sits cold
It seems so unnecessary to have the building hollowed out
It is possible, even normal to trade while a legal dispute goes on, but Hartnell Taylor Cook say no.

We are heartbroken not to be able to mark this once in a generation event with you all. We have missed Christmas and St George's Day, but they will come again. This we will miss forever. Our legal claim remains in process, and slow lawyers get fatter. We will win this

As we close for the year, can I just say Thank you, for all the support.
We remain in this fight against corporate thuggery & cultural vandalism and will call out

We could & should be open
Merry Christmas

A slightly hazy start to the week, as the morning starts and life goes on on Cornhill.
Sadly down our little alley, no sense nor reason stirs and the lights remain off
We are reading in a Silk for our claim against

and look forward to their thoughts

A huge Thanks to Chris Darkens for sending us this original copy of the commemorative book published in 1923 to celebrate 200 years of Simpson’s
It's now a century old & we should be marking 300 years of Simpson’s instead of fighting legal action with faceless offshore entitys
After the colour & pageantry of what was a wonderful weekend, I thought I would juxtapose it with a black & white image of Simpson’s
As the world moves on in celebration Simpson’s remains in the dark at the end of an alley that once teamed with life
Closed for no good reason
We are seeking Executive members who must be either:

Simpsons Tavern has been in service for 300 years since Bird in Hand Court
When
@HartnellTaylorC

It's not just physical history being erased, people with decades of service have had their careers ended

It would seem it's not straightforward, but something that I will have to get my teeth into!
Which made me a little hungry and as ever I think back to what my first dish back at Simpsons Tavern will be
As the week closes, it's time to bring out the Stilton
For 300 years, since the original Simpsons opened in Bird in Hand Court we have finished with Stilton
And Port
Then more Port
.......honestly, I have no idea what happens after that, it seems to bring on a mild amnesia
A wonderful Victorian era image of the Grill room at Simpsons Tavern - Thanks Chris Darkens for sourcing
I thought I would put it up to show what it did look like, next to how it looks now

slides of London, this lovely, if damaged, image of

Less campaigning today, more a sense of nostalgia and loss for the team, as they have received redundancy notices after decades of service
I will be seeing them later to raise a glass and commiserate & will also pass along the words of support recieved

After a traditional lunch at Simpsons’s why not take a one minute stroll to the Jamaica Wine House, the Historic birthplace of Londons coffee scene. Londons first ever coffee house opened here in 1652 but now boasts an array of traditional alcoholic beverages!
6 months ago today, the team arrived to find Hartnell T.C. had Unlawfully closed Simpsons Tavern
Staff who had worked at the venue for decades were sent home, to later be made redundant
Reservations, events & Christmas parties were all cancelled
The building put up for sale
London's oldest chophouse Simpson’s Tavern, which we revealed had been forced to close exactly a year ago, is still fighting to reopen, the manager tells us.
But he warns there's a long legal fight to go.
@SimpsonsTavern
We have alot going on here at Simpsons Tavern, much of it cruel and ugly.
No doubt others are suffering too.
It is in these moments, that we must remember the sacrifice of others before us and our place in a bigger World to keep perspective

"Simpson's Tavern have been left "shocked and dumbfounded" at the immediate closure of the historic chophouse restaurant, following what they call "the cynical actions of our landlord and their agents".
@HartnellTaylorC
As we close the week we are doing our diligence before we bring action against Hartnell Taylor Crooks
It occurred, though. Have they?
Have Tavor Holdings still failed to register as an offshore entity?
It would be nice to know who forced our closure & who benefits
#cityoflondon
We are now suing for unlawful forfeiture of Simpson’s Tavern and associated costs, which are far greater than the arrears now. There will be a further hearing to scrutinise this, but we remain incredibly confident on multiple procedural & equitable principles it will be held up.
Great chat on
