While I'm still going to be making
#BettingPeople
interviews and writing some betting ring blogs I'm very much freelance and open to work. I'm looking forward to hosting boxes again at Exeter & Wincanton during the new season and keen to do similar work as well as content.
After a few months of uncertainty then a long week which included a small operation and a stay in Bristol’s wonderful St Michaels Neonatal ward, the Notts are delighted to finally be back home with our brand new son Monty James Nott born just after midnight on 22nd October.
On my way home from hospital. Thanks for all the messages, they really were lovely to read. I’m under orders for some rest before setting my sights on a return to the turf.
While racing twitter can be the most awful place in many ways, I’ve been totalled bowled over by the kindness I’ve been shown on here, by friends, acquaintances and total strangers. Totally bowled over, when it matters racing & betting people are salt of the Earth. Thank you.
This is brilliant
@RichardHoiles
- rather than the industry try and shun betting as a vice or ignore it all together, embrace it as a huge part of horseracing and educate punters on how it works. Thank you. Bravo - more please.
@itvracing
I can’t tell you how chuffed I am to be back, not only
@CheltenhamRaces
but in the betting ring and racing in general. Life will be lived! I hope this photo speaks more than words ever could.
Isn’t the dream to buy a horse that has shown little, put it with a trainer who finds a small problem with it, gets to the bottom of it then discovers it’s got an engine. In other words a dark horse. Next time it runs you have something to bet on. Not any more it seems.
Here's my
#Betting
ring blog from
@AKBets87
pitches at
@LeopardstownRC
today Another great day in Ireland. plenty of big bets, loads of friendly banter tarnished by a couple punters trying it on, oh and some terrific racing. Willie's in the bumper anyone?
The first part of my
@StarSports_Bet
#BettingPeople
interview with professional punter and UK bookie’s ‘Enemy Number One’ is live - Patrick Veitch explains what it takes to be a successful backer.
I’m so sad to learn that the legend that was and always will be, Barney Curley has passed away. He’s always been my racing hero, from the very start. RIP Barney.
Missed my flight due to a smash on the motorway and decided I’m too old to sleep on an airport floor. Ha hotel splash out and a couple more pints of the local brew!
Racing needs to stop apologising for betting, but turn full circle and embrace, support and promote it. If betting on horseracing thrives, horse racing thrives - just my humble opinion in my latest blog for
@StarSports_Bet
I’m chuffed that my
@StarSports_Bet
#BettingPeople
interview with Patrick Veitch is going down so well. I’m very lucky to be able to meet so many interesting and inspirational people in helping make this series.
You never know what’s going to come in, a punter just had an even £8000 EACH-WAY Galopin Des Champs in the Gold Cup with
@StarSports_Bet
#CheltenhamFestival
How did racecourses survive before there was media money? By attracting people. May bank holiday saw 17 meetings. It worked, local people went to local meetings. Some of whom went on the become avid racing fans, others just looked forward to their traditional annual visit.
I just got approached by a group of young ladies asking for a selfie as I was leaving
@NewtonAbbotRace
. I was quite surprised and a little chuffed. Not as surprised and disappointed as they were to learn that I wasn’t
@RichardHoiles
!
Cheltenham Festival is a bit like a wedding isn’t it. A year of planning, every detail covered, endless worries about the weather and who will turn up. When the day comes, it’s all forgotten about, nobody cares if it rains or shines as long as it happens. Bring on the roar!
Here's what happened on the
@AKBets87
pitch at
@LeopardstownRC
today, another excellent day, a few reversals, no trying it on and some great banter with excellent people and of course great action on the turf.
@tidler1985
I love dressing up for the races. It’s really part of the fun. You haven’t lived until you have walked into a petrol station in pink corduroys and tweed half way home from Cheltenham or daft Blazers and Panama from Goodwood!
I had to rush back from the
@LuckOnSunday
studio back to Devon for my wife’s birthday lunch. I’ve only just seen some of the kind comments. Thank you all very much and thanks to
@nickluck
&
@bruceclements
for having me on the show it was a real honour, even Betsy & Monty watched!
Despite leading a charmed life with so much to be happy about, I’m often battling periods ranging from lack of enthusiasm and creativity to real despondency for no tangible reason, which in themselves get me down, I think I’ve found the cure. ☀️ ‘Just a bit of sunshine’ ☀️
One of the biggest faults in racing and often illustrated on here, if someone asks a genuine basic question, rather than just answer it, some has to take the piss. It is annoying to see and alienates potential new people interested in the sport. Just my pet hate.
I’m very sad to learn that Johnny Lights has died. I feel very privileged that I got to meet him and record his story. He wanted to tell it and I’m honoured it was to me, us. RIP Johnny Lights.
I was very sad to hear that well-respected Dorset bookmaker Ivor Perry has died aged 85. He was a one of the old school and an owner and farmer as well as a bookie. He was a very popular character, still going racing up until very recently. RIP Ivor.
Had an email from professional punter and now ex-racehorse owner Alan Potts regarding my latest blog for Star Sports. It makes some thought provoking points and is reproduced here with kind permission from Alan.
All aboard, well soon anyway, I’m off to
@GowranPark1
for my first ever visit. I’ll be reporting from the
@AKBets87
organisation’s pitches. Look out for my betting report this evening. Can’t wait, I’ve heard so much about the
#Thyestes
meeting.
Here's what happened on the
@AKBets87
joint at
@LeopardstownRC
- it was a disaster for the bookies with the bankers going in. Maybe not if you've been bucking trends since 2022...
Patrick Veitch has graciously agreed to do a follow-up interview, he’ll be taking questions from twitter. Any questions you might have for him, please post them under this thread. Deadline 5pm Tuesday
#BettingPeople
Here's what happened in the
#Betting
ring at
#PunchestownFestival
on the
@AKBets87
pitch. Spoiler, when you lose €12,000 in one race, there's not much coming back. Sorry if you don't like tales of woe but here goes.....
I’d like to wish everyone a very healthy and happy 2022. As Al Urban sang back in the 1950’s, ‘There’s Gonna Be Better Times’. Starting tomorrow at Cheltenham! Here’s to kicking on!
I just met this chap and his lady. Really nice and friendly and said he was a tipster and could win me a nice few quid. My memory isn’t what it was, but he seems vaguely familiar?
Just a bit of 🎺🎺🎺 but the
@StarSports_Bet
#BettingPeople
series has reached 248 published with 249 in the can. I didn’t do them all by any means but a fair few of them. Thanks to everyone that watches them.
Sometimes
#BettingPeople
interviews can be years coming to fruition - I’ve just finished editing and have been given the green light to publish a five-parter that’s taken well over two years to happen, it’s a big name in betting, coming next week.
@StarSports_Bet
I’m at Dublin airport for my belated flight home reflecting on a great weekend. So many people took the time to say how much they enjoyed the
@AKBets87
blogs &
@StarSports_Bet
#BettingPeople
interviews, thank you. The entire
#DublinRacingFestival
was spectacular fun & friendly.
I’m delighted that professional punter
@nickgoff79
has agreed to a Q&A interview for
#BettingPeople
he was one of the very early big hits. Can people post all questions for him on this thread please.
@StarSports_Bet
Chuffed to have been hired by
@AKBets87
to work the
@punchestownrace
festival for the week writing my betting ring reports from pitch 1 on the rails. That’s another racecourse first ticked for me in style! Can’t wait to get back over to Ireland. 🇮🇪🏇🏿
I've been booked by
@AKBets87
to blog covering the betting from their pitch at Laytown in September. Chuffed to be working for them again at a meeting I've long wanted to attend, I'm now off to buy some white trainers....
I’ve fallen in love with Irish racing, the crowds are fabulous, punters fearless but still fun, the atmosphere warm the welcome friendly and the bookies a band of brothers. What’s not to love! My latest blog for
@StarSports_Bet
I’m covering
@Ascot
on Saturday from home, writing a report on all the
@StarSports_Bet
action from the course, office and betting shops. I’m hoping to be back on course for
@CheltenhamRaces
at the end of the month. I can’t wait to get back into the betting ring, can’t wait.
My latest
@StarSports_Bet
#BettingPeople
is with legendary businessman and punter Terry Ramsden who was betting in millions in the 1980’s. This particular interview coup down to
@BenStarSports
’ tenacity, hear the story of Katies the £1/2m 20/1 cert.
