We recently hosted our annual Shomrim Toronto Volunteer Appreciation Night, an incredible evening dedicated to honouring and celebrating the individuals who selflessly give their time and effort to keep our community safe. We were honoured to be joined by Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca, MPP for Thornhill Laura Smith, Vaughan Ward 4 Councillor Chris Ainsworth, and Vaughan Ward 5 Councillor Gila Martow, who recognized the outstanding contributions of our volunteers in protecting and supporting the community. As part of the evening, we showed our deep gratitude by presenting every Shomrim volunteer in attendance, along with their spouses, with special gifts. Among these were custom Shomrim-engraved flashlights, along with gifts donated by Lux Nail Bar, Olive Branch, and Shomrim. These thoughtful tokens symbolize our appreciation for the vital role our volunteers and their families play in strengthening and supporting our community. The night was filled with heartfelt speeches, shared memories, and a powerful sense of unity. Weโ€™re so proud of our volunteers and the positive impact they continue to make every day. Thank you to everyone who makes Shomrim possible, and to all who joined us for this special evening! #ShomrimToronto #VolunteerAppreciation #CommunitySafety

Leveraging the information provided, including tracking data, we dispatched units to the area and swiftly located the scooter. Within a short time, it was recovered and returned to its relieved owner. The family, who had been stuck on hold with 911, turned to Shomrim for help during a stressful situation. The child, who initially felt helpless, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Shomrim for being there when it mattered most. This incident highlights why Shomrim Toronto exists: to support our community and provide rapid assistance in urgent situations. Shomrim Toronto recently received a tip about a stolen vehicle, and members acted immediately. Alongside the vehicle, the ownerโ€™s sacred Tefillin-items of deep religious and personal significance-had also been taken. Shomrim members located the vehicle, but the Tefillin remained missing. From the outset, Shomrim worked closely with the Toronto Police Major Crime Unit (MCU), carefully backtracking the vehicleโ€™s movements. This investigation led to a separate area where it was believed the perpetrators had discarded the ownerโ€™s belongings. Shomrim members then launched an extensive search of the area, conducting it with determination and respect. After a thorough effort, they successfully recovered the Tefillin, ensuring that these precious items were returned to their rightful owner along with the vehicle. This successful recovery demonstrates Shomrimโ€™s unwavering commitment to the community. Through teamwork with law enforcement and respect for the values that matter most, Shomrim was able to bring relief and closure to the owner in this challenging situation. We encourage everyone to remain aware of their surroundings. If you notice anything suspicious or feel unsafe, call 911 and then the Shomrim Toronto hotline at 647-557-6735. We remain committed to our mission of keeping our community safe. โ€” ๐Ÿ”— Learn more about Shomrim at: ๐Ÿ”— Join a Shomrim Toronto WhatsApp group:

The information was provided to us by our partners at Shomrim, who received the initial reports. In the first incident, an individual visited a synagogue expressing interest in Judaism and requested to speak with someone. He was allowed entrance, and while inside, he stole clothing. The same individual then attempted to enter another synagogue but was unable to gain access. The photos are of the individual before he entered and after he stole the clothing. Police have been alerted to these incidents. With the High Holidays approaching and in light of October 7th, we are sharing this information to alert you and encourage heightened vigilance. We recommend implementing stricter access controls at your institutions, including: โ€ข Asking for Identification: Request ID and record information for anyone who is not a registered member of your synagogue. โ€ข Restricting Access: Consider limiting entry to staff, members, or registered attendees over the next couple of weeks. These precautionary measures and additional situational awareness are warranted at this time. We cannot stress enough the importance of reporting any suspicious incidents to law enforcement. We are in continual communication with our police partners, who are highly responsive to the needs of our community around the High Holidays. Your reports are crucial to ensuring rapid and thorough investigations, and ultimately helping to keep our entire community safe. We understand these are challenging times, but please know that we are here to support you. We are grateful for the strong collaboration within our community. If you have any questions or require assistance, do not hesitate to reach out. Stay safe, and thank you for your attention to this matter.
