I don't think we give Supa Strikas the respect and hype it really deserves! It is hands down the most innovative, best sports comic and animated series television series of our generation. You know why? Let's break it down, shall we? A thread.
One thing
@elonmusk
should also do
@Twitter
is to remove this geo-blocking of videos, or if it is geo-blocked then the tweet should only be visible in that location only. It is only fair.
In 2017, Roy Alela, a Kenyan engineering student (at the time) from Nairobi University, invented smart gloves that auto-translate sign language into speech.
I need to know in all seriousness... What do you even put on with these? Like, to complete the vibe. To finish the look. What goes with the Los Rizzos '24s?
Last week, I was in a meeting with 2 of the largest fresh produce exporters in Kenya. They told us how we can feed everyone all year round and have a food surplus in Kenya,if the Ministry of Agric can be more organized and serious about the sector. We have fertile land &...🧵
I dont know who bewitched some people in Kenya!! Lets talk about the Kenya Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Society Bill, 2023 which is INSANE, to say the least! That bill will set us back and leave Kenya behind in this unchartered yet very promising field. Lets talk, ok?
Microsoft ADC in Nairobi plans to employ 600+ Kenyans, let Google also come and employ another 600+, Visa Incubation Hub 100+? Amazon ADC 400+? All multinational corporates are welcome. I can tell u, you there is good, reliable, and smart talent in Kenya. You should be here.
I really love this video of Trevor Noah talking about the importance of acknowledging our differences/privileges and how that affects our success. How there is nothing like individual success, we are all a product of our communities/society. It reminds me of this exercise...
A Kenyan women group raised almost $1 million to complete a 102-rooms apartment (their daily contributions per person were as little as $0.1, in some instances) They leveraged on their numbers to make sure that they did not lose sight off their target.
Btw if you are a petrolhead, biker or just generally into racing or speed... Try out the TGRV Circuit in Mai Mahiu. The 1.2km track is an international standard facility built according to CIK-FIA regulations. The track has 5 hairpins, a deceptive loop and a crazy 260m straight!
This Nairobi has confident people.
We are trying to get into the Konshen's Concert but kuna commotion,I feel someone opening my pocket, I hold his hand and look at him then ask "Boss, Unado?" This boy straight up told me "Nilikuwa nataka tenje but siwezi mind kukubeba instead!"
Men are 🤷! Jana these guys cars scratched kwa parking! The scratches were deep but they argued a little then kidogo they start saying "Don't be mad brathe, insurance will pay hiyo! Lets go drink, I will buy whiskey". Then they just left and went drinking together just like that.
The way my phone was stolen jana is so funny. This guy opened the car door, just took it (the car was moving btw), closed the door and then crossed the road as I looked at him. It is like it was his phone. Ata I just laughed because wau! SMH.
I will never complain about how much they charge us in Kenya to make our hair. We typically pay Kshs 1800 - 4500 for braids, I asked how much they would charge me for knotless braids, I have been told £160 (Kshs 23,000)!! Basically the same price as building Thika Road.
Yaani a Kalenjin man, is bold enough to tear up in public, has been calling his wife "sweetheart, darling" the wife says " Bill, my love," he is taking her everywhere he goes, and even publicly holding her hand? Weeehhh my fren, things are changing. 😂😂 Eh, tunashukuru!
That TikTok guy who says Very Nice, has ruined those words for me. I could be reading something (with my voice in my head) but the moment I see the words "Very Nice" the voice instantly changes to his and I have to pause AND REPEAT IT! 😒 before my voice resumes reading! 😵💫😫
I finally had a chance to watch Dennis Oliech's interview on Churchill Show. I have a few things to say, Des is an Icon and a legend. He might have made a few wrong/miscalculated financial decisions but he is still here and rising. The strategist in me can't help share this.
Our ancestors were incredible! My goodness! How did they know that if you burn the dried beans plants (attached) you get an ash that has the same properties as Sodium carbonate! Water can be added to that ash to form a paste or a liquid that can work like magadi and vinegar!🤯
In Africa, we're still sleeping on gaming (both mobile and esports)! I don't think we understand the magnitude of that industry and the advantage we have as a continent! There are challenges but we still have mad leverage to build some things here! Let me explain that, ok?🧵
I wanted a foldable desk and I got a foldable desk!! It looks so beautiful in person, it is light and easy to carry…. I love everything about it! The price was okay. The quality is great and customer service was brilliant! Thank you.
@wanjehia
Heart breaks are so weird yooh! I was talking to someone who is going thru one ATM and he says he can't feel his hands. I remember the 1st time my heart was broken, it was 4pm and I washed EVERYTHING including my dogs! I wanted to just stay busy coz it was so painful 🤣🤣🤣
BTW if you are planning to be a Kenyan Youtuber and you want to only target Kenyan audience(Language and content) please note that CPM rate for Kenya in 2019 has been $1.30. So for a 1M views you might not even make Kshs 100K.
Why do Kenyans nonconsensually like recording people (who are minding their own businesses), and to make it even worse they share the video with the public?
Is there a bank in Kenya that made any losses in 2021? Because everyone (in fact including KRA) made a lot of gains. What really happened in 2021 in Kenya? (Finance and economy experts, please explain to us...in the simplest way)
But awa wezi kwa concerts are bold. The last concert I attended, one was trying to steal my phone, I caught him, held his hand(while it was in my pocket), I asked him what he was doing, he looked me in the eye and said “Nilikuwa taka kubeba tenje but siwezi mind kukubeba instead”
You just need to go back to your village ndio you will understand this "we have over empowered girls" is a narrative on social media and inaishia hapo Uthiru as you head West and North of Kenya. We still have a long way to go in equity and reality on the ground.
May privilege never blind your eyes to the pain of those who don't have as much, may it never clog your mind to the realities of others, may it never encourage you to support injustice, inhumanity and harassment of others. May it NEVER make you oblivion of empathy and compassion.
Kenyan Women are brilliant.
Just this past month, IBM appointed Caroline Mukiira as GM for East Africa then AfDB appointed Wambui Gichuri as Acting Vice President .
I always feel so PROUD, when I see such news!!! The more role models our girls get, the better!
Unlike in the past, this time, everything was documented! EVERY THING!!! In writing, pictures, videos, social media, traditional media, live streamed... the actions, the words, lack of either! Every thing! And that, that will be the difference this time.
This cop stopped me to check the car. Everything was okay. He asked me to buy him tea. I told him, I would have loved to but I was cashless and in fact broke....He wasn't buying it. So I showed him my wallet and asked him to buy me tea instead. He gave me Kshs 500.
KFC might have exposed (unknowingly) the biggest opportunity in Agriculture in Africa. The problem is lack of market coz we lack traceability of food sysyems(supply chain), ineffective policies and regulations, uninformed farmers on global food standards and systems.
Financial literacy should be a mandatory course in both Primary& secondary schools in Africa (esp Kenya). We should teach kids basic topics with practical sessions on: Budgeting, Credits- interest rates& defaulting, Savings, investments, Book Keeping, Digital Security, Tax etc.
Chase Bank was the best bank for SMEs and Startups!! It really still pains me that they went into receivership( Liquidated, then merged into SBM Bank). No bank has ever listened, invested and care for startups like Chase Bank ever did.... None, comes even close, years later.
Weeehhh ati scented candles ni 3,000??? Na mnabuy tu? Woow.
Walai you can leave the village but the village doesn't leave you, coz me siwezi buy candle thao tatu! Cognitive dissonance itanimaliza!
I don’t know what can be done about the 300ml, 500ml and 1L plastic water/Juice bottles but those too should be regulated like they did with single use plastic bags.
Several Nigerian Startups are expanding their operations to Kenya this year. Some of them opened their offices this month( I know some making announcements this week at Africa Tech Summit). I love this intra African trade! 🇰🇪 is the most diverse and inclusive ecosystem in Africa.
May be SGR should have started with a Nairobi to Kisumu route first. The volumes (demand) is much higher on that route than to MSA. There are also several stops and options than the MSA route (Naivasha, Nakuru, Eldoret, Webuye, Bungoma , Malaba to Kisumu).
If u are driving from Western thru Turbo or North Rift thru Soi to Nairobi, when you reach hapo Maili Tisa, take the Eldoret Southern bypass to avoid going thru the jam in Eldoret Town. The road is good and will take u around 25mins (saves u 40Mins) from Maili Tisa to Cheplaskei
Kakamega has more land brokers than the population of Burundi! There are brokers who work directly with the land owners, then those brokers have their brokers, then brokers who know about the lands but they sell you air! Be careful when you want to buy land in Kakamega
By the end of this month we will have graduated with Bachelor of Laws, BSc Mathematics and Statistics, and Master in Electoral Policy and Administration from the TL.
Tunashukuru.
I don't think we really understand why DRC's inclusion into the East African community is such a big deal, esp for bizs (Startups, SMEs, & sm corporates). The consumer market size, insurance industry, growing* lower middle class, banking and telecom sectors esp MoMo, clean energy
It is beautiful. If you have a small space, this can be perfect for an office space because it has enough storage, it is foldable (occupying a small area ) and it looks sleek! I love it.
Tinder Swindler Simon Leviev reminds me of 2014, a 25-yr-old claimed to be a billionaire &VC. He was Kenyan's youngest billionaire, on Forbes, every TV, Newspaper, social media platform. He was a motivational speaker until the PR team that was working with him exposed him. Rem?
Just to remind you, one of the biggest scams in Kenya ever! Guess what? Investors were promised very high returns (to be millionaires) in a very short period of time! Sounds familiar?
I mean, Twitter already does that with trending topics anyway🤷 . If you select a country, you will mostly see trends from that location, so, please do the same for such tweets. Only show the tweet(s) with the geo-locked video in that region only. Thanks.
Also, farmers are throwing away tomatoes because there is no market or buyers here anymore. Some farmers are asking people to just take the tomatoes for free! I have been given this na throw away price (it is my grandma but still 😭😭).
Safaricom has the potential of becoming the largest African Ecommerce platform. Here is a tip to Safaricom for FREE: Use Safaricom shops as distribution centres and MPesa Agents as last mile delivery/pickup points for clients. You have the value chain and infrastructure already
There are 2 ideas/startups that I've heard/seen the most (for 10+ years) but it has been a struggle to grow/scale in the industry or those startups;
1. Connecting farmers to the market with the goal of cutting off middlemen
2. Linking artisans(fundis) to on-demand clients
One of the objectives of mentorship is understanding that your mentee will, most definitely than not, be "half baked" and your role as a mentor is to guide/support them to be better, not to despise or embarrass them.
I started checking in with myself once each week. (I use these questions, thanks google). I also try to check in with some of the people I take care of. It helps me especially in setting up thing to do for myself each week. Here is me checking up on you, yes you! Yup, you.🧵
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣but hii PR yetu pia imezidi sasa!! King's Cross was designed and the built in the 19th century and opened in 1850s. It is bigger and busier than JKIA!!! But ati the architecture will be replicated here?? Weeeehhh wacha buana! 🧐😒
CS Kipchumba Murkomen visits the St. Pancras and King’s Cross Railway Stations in London to inspect their designs; The architectural designs will be replicated in the construction of the new Nairobi Railway Station
Pro tip: NEVER ask a plumber or an electrician or any other fundi to remove his shoes when he comes to fix something in your house. If you know why...then you know!
We cannot be a country that silences those we don't agree with! A country that arrests those who criticize it! A country that is okay with misuse of public resources! Going back to the Era of intimidating and humiliating citizens who dare question the Govt!
#ReleaseChaosKibe
Ohhh woooow!! Into the 3rd Month of 2022 and Startups in Africa are almost at the $2Billion mark! Way to go!!
We will talk about the elephant in the room later!!!
Kenyans are amazing! I had a horrible hit and run accident today. The way strangers came through for me, I can't even explain. My heart is so filled with gratitude coz I am lucky to be alive and the fact that I experienced kindness and humanity. Kenyans are amazing! Thank you .
If you were to buy a small car (Kadudu) (<1500cc) which of these would you buy and why?

2. RunX
3. Swift
4. Fit
5. Note(new model)
6. Demio

help.
Lol not just businesses, we have a sheep mentality in general. Type Mt. Ololokwe, look at how many people have gone there and look at the creativity in those pictures. 🫣🤭🤗
Kenyans are honestly horrible at business they have a ‘quail eggs attitude’ just coz your neighbour is making money you quickly copy it
In my other life - I invest in small busineses every so often someone wants to start an uji power business or the sugarcane one or cereals if
Ive bn going to the same hair salon for a long time. The lady plaiting my hair has bn the same all those yrs. Yesterday I called her to book an appointment, she said "we've moved to..... Will u come there?" She sounded unsure. I came to the new place;it is HERs! So happy for her.
They actually met for the first time in a race in PARIS in 2003! Yoooh, running at Elite level for over 21 years is insane! Ehh, enyewe only the disciplined are truly free! LONGEVITY.
By 2002 it was published in Namibia, Botswana, Zambia. Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. I remember in Kenya we used to think it was about Harambee stars. It used to be a magazine inserted in the weekend newspaper. That was a very strategic and innovative move. Why you ask?
Startups, SMEs, and Corporates who haven't been paying techies at the market rate expect more people to leave your teams in Nairobi. Google ADC is here and they are hiring. Start training junior devs and keep HR on handover+hiring alert....exodus is on its way.

"Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor once said that Kenya has 3 official languages: English, Swahili and silence. But I would say our 4th language is humour. And in humor what you often find is bravery,"
@johnallannamu
KOT are funny.
A guy starts an argument about SGR, another guy calls him out as a liar on his claims then states his counter argument. Guy1 decides to expose guy2 on unrelated issue. KOT pick sides based on race/ PhD. The guys decide to fuel the new feud.
SGR issue thrown OUT!
Eliud Kipchoge’s friendship with his coach Patrick Sang is so beautiful to watch! The way Sang is always overjoyed for Eliud when he wins yet steps back to let him enjoy the limelight & celebrate… wow! Congratulations to both of them for the world record
Did I small research this past week in Eastleigh, Kariakor, Gikomba and Toi Mrkts. Most traders are not using paybill or till numbers anymo. Majority of them ask customers send the payment as a withdrawal from Agent. In fact most of them prefer to be paid in cash.
Kenyan investors(esp those buying land) keep getting scammed cz media doesn't do due diligence of such scammers who pose as investors, so they give them platforms that allows them to seem credible. Also the fact that govt doesn't punish such pple, allows this to keep happening.
Koyonzo high from Western are the 2022 Kenya Secondary schools 7s champions! They had an incredible journey there!
Quarters they beat Alliance High 52 - 00, Semis they beat Nduru 24-7 and in the finals they beat Butula 31- 00!
The changing face of schools rugby in Kenya! 🔥🔥
"Between May 2022 and July 2023, almost 7000 children were reported missing in Kenya, 5 out of 6 of them have never been found." Why is this not a national emergency yet? I mean, how is this not in all media stations every day calling for govt to act? 😱🥺💔💔
🇰🇪 "I always see the face of that baby. She was right there and then she wasn't. I was angry at myself."
Three years on,
#BBCAfricaEye
explores the impact of ‘The Baby Stealers’ investigation in Kenya’s fight against child trafficking.

If the campaign period, the last 2days of voting and tallying are anything to go by, then as Kenyans electorates we have grown in the tolerance & democracy specs. Life is hard, nobody has the time to go out of their ordinary to disturb another Kenyan. 👏 Proud to be a Kenyan! 🙏
Supa Strikas is a pan-African(NOTE that) association football-themed comic. It was founded by Andrew Smith, Oliver Power, Lee Hartman and Alex Kramer then produced in Malaysia by Animasia Studio, and Strika Entertainment originally in South Africa, 1st published in 2000 in SA.
Hahahaha NOOO!! This song is sending me.
"We muuuussssttt embrraaaccceee demooocraacccy and the ruuuulllleee off Laaawwww.
Mooothhherrr Afffrrriiccaaa..."
Do you want to tell me that that wasn't composed 7mis ago?
See, over the weekend children were home. So ,they would 'force' parents to buy the weekend newspaper to be able to keep up with the Supa Strikas comic. It was also an independent magazine, so no fighting with the parents to be able to read the comic. Win-Win situation.
In 2016 a few stakeholders in the broadness of ICT and legal tech met, went through that ICT bill, line by line then gave feedback/justification to parliament on why that bill needed to be killed then recommendations on what can be done to grow the sector. They ignored all it!
I can't even believe that there are no scholarly articles or research or books written about Supa Strikas!! I honestly cannot fathom that. Africans, how? I mean about their model, how they were able to crack the global market, how they've survived this long...I mean..EVERYTHING!
Let me summary this thread on Supa Strikas by this: If there's a product that was able to crack the African(and global) market in product, biz model, innovativeness & culture, they did it. Supa Strikas a South African brand that all African kids think it's their national team.
