My father is 76, don’t know whether he would be able to see the fall of the tyrant or not, but the trauma the whole family went through, millions of people went through, will be passed on to next generations! Generations after generations this will not be forgotten and forgiven.
In Bangladesh, the prime minister has pushed her country into authoritarianism
“Our data shows the Sheikh Hasina regime stops at nothing to hold on to power,” said Josef Benedict, Asia-Pacific researcher for CIVICUS. “No free and fair elections can take place in the current environment.”
This is damaging!
Thousands of Students of Dhaka University in Bangladesh celebrating loudly when Australia defeated India in the cricket World Cup final. In 1971, with India’s direct intervention, East Pakistan became Bangladesh. What has gone wrong?
You spoil a peaceful rally, shoot and kill opposition activists, you arrest top BNP leaders and send them to jails, and you claim headless BNP.
If you dare Madam PM, release top leaders, resign and hold free and fair election. If people love
you, you will get elected again.
So the government wants to hold the national election by locking the BNP offices in 56 districts including Dhaka. Can you imagine? What a free and fair election! Only happens in Bangladesh!
So sending all the top leaders to the jail, the Awami league top leaders are still blaming the leaders for the protests etc! Why can’t they get the fact, it’s no more BNP, it’s the mango public who wants Hasina to step down! She must resign.
“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." Resonates with a universal truth that extends beyond any particular movement or moment in history. I find that their relevance extends far beyond the historical struggle for civil rights
This is hilarious! The Indian HC counsellor is meeting the JP leaders in a row, and that’s not interference to our domestic matters? Uff the world is such a hypocritical place and indeed hilarious 🤣
“Far-right, pro-Taliban Ataullah Hafezzi, who was in the forefront to demand Taslima Nasrin's exemplary punishment & wants to abolish female education, met

PM

& requested her help to win some seats. PM told him to unite 'pro-liberation' Islamist force.”

“1971 back again! daily
@ProthomAlo
, reports 93 targetted attacks by masked men on houses of BNP activists, who are campaigning for restoration of democracy & opposing one-sided election. The security minister, however, says he was unaware of it.”
@usembassydhaka
A real scary picture in the top Bangladeshi daily
@ProthomAlo
, which reports 93 targetted attacks by masked men on houses of BNP activists, who are campaigning for restoration of democracy & opposing one-sided election. The security minister, however, says he was unaware of it.
So this proves the police has templates, a list of BNP leaders and activists, put the names in the template without any investigation or fact, arrest them (or can’t because they are dead), put them in the jail, silent the voice of dissent and then say “khela hobe”!
It’s like Wild West:
Nasir Rahman, an opposition activist in Dhaka, died in a hospital bed a year ago.
But if a police complaint is to be believed, Rahman vandalized cars, threw Molotov cocktails at vehicles, and attacked police outposts on Oct. 28.
Do they really think they would eliminate BNP from Bangladesh? Hasina one person, carried her trauma for 50 years, tells her stories, acts accordingly!Thousands of daughters out there are waiting to tell their stories for last 15 years!
It is not a game and it is so on!
We live in such an era when powerful fascist governments oppress voice of dissents using all state machineries! Yet some people fight against fascism, for democracy. This is the character of true powerful people.
You may think, what do we achieve? It’s our dignity!
@geoffreymacdon
@dailystarnews
How’s that possible when the BNP top leadership is politically accused and sent to jail! Who will lead the dialogue? Hasina has already put a condition, that everything needs to be within constitution, when she is the one who got rid of the caretaker clause from constitution?
Do you remember my earlier tweet on the 19th of November (posted the same on
@facebook
on the 18th), when I said the total number of buses that would be set ablaze would very likely be 120?
Those were retired buses that were purchased by the NSI (National Security Intelligence)
As this video makes clear, the peaceful movement led by BNP was met by violence, police attacks, sound grenades, and a massively-coordinated security operation to arrest BNP’s activists (more than 10,000 in 2 weeks) and allow
#DictatorHasina
to hold another rigged and one-sided
Just a day after Bangladesh police’s claimed BNP office is free and nothing restricting political activities, an opposition leader is arrested by the police in-front of BNP office from a peaceful demonstration! Awami league and it’s hypocrisy!

Who drinks from his sickening cup
Recklessness and vanity,
Until from his high crest headlong
He plummets to the dust of hope.”

The words we speak becomes the house we live in! The words the prime minister of Bangladesh says what a society the people live in! This is absolutely toxic for future generations!
Even the Indian court practices some freedom! “Terming the arbitrary jailing of government critics as an “abuse of preventive law”, a Jammu and Kashmir high court bench headed by Chief Justice K. Kotiswar Singh has quashed the Public Safety Act (PSA) proceedings against Gul.
Courts quash detention of

journalist Sajad Gul. Also grant bail to editor Fahad Shah. Judges note the “tendency…. to detain the critics of the policies or commissions/omissions of the government machinery … is an abuse of the preventive law.”
This is 2023. Awami activists are going to BNP activists houses, looting furnitures, jewellery, even pigeons! Throwing bombs to the houses when the kids and elderly people are sleeping! This is Bangladesh!
Bangladesh garment workers fighting for pay face brutal violence and threats
Workers describe hands and arms being targeted in ‘merciless’ beatings as protests over low wages turn increasingly violent in Dhaka.
@usembassydhaka
🇧🇩 "As protests in Dhaka turned increasingly violent, two garment workers have been killed, allegedly after being shot by police in the first wave of protests. And last Wednesday, another woman died after being shot in the head."

“With this, a total of 265 BNP leaders and activists have been sentenced in a total of 21 cases in the last two months.
With this, the number of BNP activists sentenced in the last one year rose to 299. “
Artists rally in Dhaka for right to vote and release of political prisoners!

@shah_farhad
And you did hide the fact that the rule also allowed the possibility of two more elections under caretaker government! Why didn’t they happen?
@ahmedka1
Omar an "accused" in this "case" together with BNP Secretary General and many other senior BNP leaders ! So if anyone joins the ruling party's election bandwagon, he is instantly absolved from this case, released forthwith, and made a BAL candidate in just no time !!
I saw for the first time in my life going to buy nomination papers with the police, the elections and democracy of Bangladesh are now in the hands of the police. I still do not know whether the hopes and aspirations of the people of Bangladesh will be fulfilled

The so-called "attack" on the rear gate of the Chief Justice's residence is actually a false allegation and the case for itself is also bogus has been proven by the government itself by the hasty release from jail of former BNP Vice-Chairman Bar. Omar.
This time unidentified men hurled improvised bombs at the residence of former mayor of Sylhet and

central leader, Ariful Haque Chowdhury. The incident happened on 21st November around 2000 hours. Ariful Haque Chowdhury was outside the house during the attack.

Bangladesh Awami League is an anti democracy, terrorist party which runs on fear campaign. It is using all state machineries to silent the pro democratic voices in Bangladesh.

The whole judiciary is a farce now! If you read the FIRs against top leaders like Mirza Alamgir, you will find it hilarious although unfortunate.
@shah_farhad
For arguments sake, let’s agree. But if Sheikh Hasina is that popular, why can’t she change the constitution (which has been done many times in the past for the sake of the nation), and hold a free and fair election under neutral govt?
@TIME
Where is the takeaway that SH represents the anti democratic force in the world. Where are the takeaways from her strong ties with Russia and China?
@ahmedka1
And while witnessing the govt and police doing everything to jail all opposition leaders and activists, making the field empty, oh no, full of AL puppets in the election! This is just a mockery and they think public don’t understand!!!
Let it be!
