Happy Birthday, Keith Haring! Did you know Haring's art appeared in several sequences on Sesame Street? Animator Bill Davis brought Haring's work to life in these sequences, carrying Haring's legacy into the future.

#SesameStreetDay
!!! 54 years ago today, the first episode of Sesame Street aired on public television, starting a revolution in children’s television.
“Watch out for each other. Love everyone and forgive everyone, including yourself. Forgive your anger. Forgive your guilt. Your shame. Your sadness. Embrace and open up your love, your joy, your truth, and most especially your heart.”
Jim Henson (Sep 24, 1936- May 16, 1990)
Lots of discourse today, like every year, about Sesame Street standing with the LGBTQ+ friends in our neighborhood. Friendly yearly reminder that 123 Sesame has been open and accepting of all kinds since 1969. Pride month is no different. We love everybody in our neighborhood 🌈
Happy Pride Month! If you love The Muppets/Sesame Street, you should know Richard Hunt. One of Jim Henson’s closest friends and trusted puppeteers, Hunt was openly gay, and Jim loved him for who he was. Hunt died from complications of HIV/AIDS in 1992. 🧵
me: baby big bird bank you have to stop. your financial game’s too tough. your swag too different. your saving for the future too precocious. they’ll kill you
baby big bird bank:
OTD in 1979, The Muppet Movie was released! Big Bird has a cameo in which Kermit and Fozzie offer him a ride, but he turns it down as he’s on his way to NYC to “break into public television.”
One of Elmo’s first appearances in 1980. Then, Elmo was unnamed, and referred to as “baby monster,” “short red,” and “little red.” Elmo originally had a VERY different voice (and talked in first person).

! Will Lee (Mr. Hooper) was blacklisted during the era of McCarthyism for being a Jewish actor and an alleged communist. Hooper was the Jewish representation on Sesame Street, and was the first positive Jewish representation for many kids watching.
so many things about this. the aggressive title. the way bert’s about to throw hands. the blurriness of the photo like it’s someone taping a high school fight. the 99 dollar listing.
