I will never again complain about the China visa process after seeing all the hurdles Western countries make Chinese tourists go through: They need to provide company license, 6 months banking history, extremely detailed itinerary, etc. They're almost treated like criminals.😥

This is a nuanced + important detail that many talking about China either don't understand or choose to ignore. China didn't ban Western social media. They had rules in place that Western social companies felt they could not in good faith comply with. They chose to leave China.

If I hear the “but Facebook isn’t allowed in China” argument one more time … TikTok isn’t either, China has different internet rules. Facebook just didn’t want to make a separate one for China. Then by the time it did it was too late. Don’t at me bc you don’t know anything.

I thought we had already agreed that forcing people from a certain social/ethnic group to wear colored identification badges out of fear was a BAD thing. Apparently South Korea didn't get the memo...😳😢 This is a video of Chinese tourists arriving in South Korea...

BREAKING: China has temporarily stopped issuing visas to South Korean nationals following discriminatory practices toward Chinese visitors. Chinese arriving in South Korea have been reportedly required to wear yellow tags around their necks as soon as they land there.

The idea that "China" was only invented in the last 100 or so years, and that China only understands what "territory" is because "Westerners taught them" is pure historical gaslighting and merely another attempt to sell more books by #China #ArmchairExperts .

Um...no actually. While those of us in China were locking down, wearing masks, and working from home, Western leaders and citizens kept calling the virus a hoax and refusing to take decisive action. An earlier lockdown couldn't have saved science deniers from themselves.

In a pandemic that has since claimed more than 1.7 million lives, Wuhan’s lockdown came too late to prevent the virus from spreading around the world. Politics obstructed science, in a tension that would define the pandemic.

The #USA definitely exacerbated the tensions with #China via: 1) Attacks against Huawei, Tiktok, and other Chinese tech companies 2) Attacks against Chinese students 3) Attacks against Chinese people (COVID-19) And in my view, without proof/just cause. The USA is not blameless.

@RealSexyCyborg I'm pretty sure only people who never bothered to learn a second language have the audacity to shame others for less than perfect English. They should try learning 1-2 other languages and then we'll see how good their public speaking is.

All done, tested, and home. But take a look at what Shenzhen was able to setup so quickly to test an entire office building. Very efficient. 5 minutes tops once you reached the line in the lobby.

#China : We're going to destroy #COVID19 , root and stem. #Chinese : All the lockdowns and quarantines are hard, but it's necessary to beat this pandemic. #Americans : F#&@ America and the world, I want my #Thanksgiving turkey and stuffing.

Mike Pompeo says free world must "change" China... Anyone else remember that time the British wanted to sell Opium to the Chinese people, the Chinese government refused, and the British went to war with China to "change" their minds?

@china_takes Wow. Westerners sure love to fall back on the whole absolute power and absolute subservience trope on China.

In the end, I never particularly care if a quote I give makes it into a story, everyone is busy and article goals can change quickly. But c'mon people, if you're going to write about Shenzhen, as well as other Chinese cities, maybe try to quote people on the ground. 9/10

@china_takes Oh, I see we're trotting out "draconian" again to criticize China for doing what was necessary to save lives and control the virus. I'll just sit here and enjoy my draconian iced coffee in a draconian rebounding economy surrounded by draconian people that are healthy and happy.

@DanielDumbrill I certainly do not appreciate his comment on "what a tiny microbe can do". He's either uncaring and callous about all lives lost (and that will be lost) during #COVID19 , or just about Asian lives. Both possibilities are chilling...😓

Damn straight. #China was willing to cancel their main holiday to fight #COVID19 . Americans keep finding excuses to congregate unsafely. Ffs people...

Chinese New Year is the largest human migration on the planet, for many Chinese it is the *only* time they see not only their extended family but their children and spouses. You see your kid *once* a year while you pour concrete, wait tables the rest of the year. We canceled it.

"The US government will let #TikTok run out the clock and ‘overlook’ its own deadline." More hints that the US might be more interested in taking down business competitors to US companies than alleged national security concerns.

Despite daily confirmed cases for the #coronavirus in #China going down, I've still gotten two calls in the past week from gov't/police double checking my address, where I've traveled recently, and if I'm feeling well. 😊😊😊 Wonder if other countries are as thorough? 🙄🙄

It's crazy how many people are coming out of the woodwork to try and justify horrible treatment of tourists/immigrants. I'm all for discussion and debate, but people whose first response shows their complete lack of humanity aren't entitled to a seat at the debate table IMO.

I will never again complain about the China visa process after seeing all the hurdles Western countries make Chinese tourists go through: They need to provide company license, 6 months banking history, extremely detailed itinerary, etc. They're almost treated like criminals.😥

@AlistairsChina It's common for Chinese organizations that have not yet started really pushing into international markets, they don't really think about promoting/protecting their brand the same way. One CEO once told me that branding was "太虚了" and of no value. He only cared about the product

And that's why I still would bet on #China tech over US tech, even with the US gov's aggressiveness. The Chinese are hungrier and want it more, and are fighting for something greater than just themselves, whether it be their family, company, country, or even just a mission/dream.

A bad take on what the Chinese people feel about China's COVID approach, from someone not in China. Chinese have been very supportive of policies that allow they to stay healthy + get back to mostly normal lives. Bad management of the Xi'an outbreak is unlikely to change this.
