This is a nuanced + important detail that many talking about China either don't understand or choose to ignore.
China didn't ban Western social media. They had rules in place that Western social companies felt they could not in good faith comply with. They chose to leave China.
If I hear the “but Facebook isn’t allowed in China” argument one more time … TikTok isn’t either, China has different internet rules. Facebook just didn’t want to make a separate one for China. Then by the time it did it was too late. Don’t at me bc you don’t know anything.

Never caught COVID because I lived in Shenzhen, China, with strong COVID controls with minimal impact on daily life. I also wear a KN95 mask in public places (no impact on breathing) and have had my three vaccination shots.
