🔬🌈 Expansion microscopy afficionado. 🧠 Synapses to connectomics. Lead Scientist Molecular Connectomics @E11Bio. He/Him. Views are my own.

I'm never going to get tired of expansion microscopy ^^ This beautiful demonstration of a mouse brain slice, unexpanded and at two different expansion levels, was skillfully prepared by @aashir_m125 and Hugo Damstra — both great scientists on the team at E11!
We explain their full technology stack in the article. But briefly, if they succeed, it could have big implications for neuroscience, including: • Faster human brain mapping • Better treatments for neurological disorders • Advances in brain-computer interfaces

Look at those Arabidopsis root microtubules! @GalleiMichelle did truly stunning work on PlantEx — check out the rest of the manuscript! Any young scientists listening: this project is the result of a LAB ROTATION — always aim for the breakthrough, it's closer than you think! 🍀

This should be amazingly useful to anyone who is into light-shaping, especially for STED & MINFLUX! It might even get you into the game by lowering the point of entry — graphical user interfaces are always appreciated by us coding-illiterate biologists 😉
🔬peeps! I am delighted to finally publish my code for controlling a spatial light modulator (SLM) to perform adaptive optics & to sculpt the vortex beams for STED & MINFLUX microscopy - complete w graphical user interface for easy use! Short user manual🧵

Key insight: resolution is rarely limiting for imaging tasks in modern biology — labeling is limiting now: linkage error & coverage/signal! Expansion microscopy is still underrated for dealing with this. Labeling after expansion essentially means arbitrarily small linkage error.
🔬 What are the limits of modern microscopy? Prof. Dr. Jörg Enderlein highlights that while resolutions are near their theoretical limits, labelling molecules remains a challenge. Stay tuned for the new episode to learn how scientists push the limits of #microscopy by navigating technical and biological challenges! 🔗

Biologists and non-biologists have one thing in common: they frequently underestimate just how messy biological systems are. Biologists know the wall is there, and are prepared to scale it. Non-biologists frequently end up just crashing into it at full speed.

@RoshanNorman & Yu-Chia Chen of @AussieSuzuki's lab figured out how to make my original X10 form much more stable 12-fold expanding gels! Very intriguing, this teaches us it's not all in the gel composition — how to execute polymerization matters A LOT!

Neuronal barcoding, molecular annotation of synapses, morphology readouts — these are the pillars of a connectomics future. And E11's PRISM tech really does it all. I'm elated to share the first steps towards this future we are building with an incredible team at E11 Bio 🌈🧠
E11 Bio is excited to share a major step towards brain mapping at 100x lower cost, making whole-brain connectomics at human & mouse scale feasible (🧠→🔬→💻). Critical for curing brain disorders, building human-like AI systems, and even simulating human brains. 1/N 🧵

I cannot think of a better way to celebrate 10 years of expansion microscopy. Part of me can scarcely believe it's already been 10 years — and another part of me is in equal disbelief over how far the field has come within those 10 short years!
Hello all! After years in the non-social wilderness, I am on X. And for a good reason! To announce the Göttingen 2025 #ExM Forum, #GEF25, a celebration of 10 years of expansion microscopy. Organized together with @eboyden3, @LabSauer & @AliHShaib

Looking forward to another SfN meeting, always an exciting event to see where the neuroscience community is headed — and share our own direction in circuit mapping technology! Come see our poster, meet our team, and talk to us about your own science and its challenges 🔬🧠
The @E11BIO team will be presenting our work at Society for Neuroscience #SfN24 Oct 5-9! Come get a first peak of our protein barcoding circuit mapping technology. Find us at our booth (#1846), poster, luncheon, or schedule a coffee chat.
