Period poverty affects an estimated 500 million people WORLDWIDE.
Period poverty is a bigger problem on the African continent, so many people cannot afford sanitary items and are forced to use cloths and rags.
For some women, the cost of menstruation is missing out on life.
Today,
@freesanitarypad
visited the Women’s Maximum Prison, KiriKiri, Lagos. We got to talk with them about rehabilitation and the issues they face both in and out of prison. We can’t post images because the inmates identities have to be protected. (1)
At
@freesanitarypad
, we believe every girl deserves access to sanitary products and period stigma needs to stop!
Interested in donating towards this? Send us a DM today, we’d love to talk to you.

The goal is to build a Nigeria where no girl would have to choose between food and menstrual pads ❤️
You too can join the fight against period poverty by padding 5 girls and women in need with as low as one thousand Naira!
All you have to do is….
This is a sad and painful reality for women and girls from low-income areas who turn to using rags, leaves and tissue as they can’t afford to buy hygienic period products.
Most of the issues were on the prison reform systems, their re-entry into the world and the stigmatization they face. They learned about reusable sanitary pads which some of them are interested in since it's sustainable and will favor those starting life again after prison. (2)
SANG visited the Female Correctional Centre in Idi Araba and donated 100 pads. Photographing the recipients isn’t allowed but we were able to sensitize them about menstrual health and hygiene.
