I won a grant to carry out data collection for my PhD thesis focusing on factors associated with adolescent pregnancy and its implications in Rwanda. Yours truly is excited 💃💃💃.
Our manuscript entitled “A qualitative study to explore the healthcare-seeking experiences of men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW) in Rwanda" has been accepted for publication in BMC Health Services Research 😇🤘
Congratulations to all the co-authors 🎉.

I successfully completed a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis course. It took me 6 weeks of study, averaging 4-6 hours per week. I highly recommend this course, particularly for PhD students interested in conducting a systematic review/+ meta-analysis.

Improving healthcare accessibility:
@ughe_org
has introduced Rwandan Sign Language in our CBE curriculum to promote understanding of deaf health needs and improving accessibility.
What an honour to have been trained at this wonderful University, and to now be part of a team training the next generation of healthcare providers who will revolutionize the way healthcare is delivered around the world.

I’ve been pretty much battling with anxiety and depression most of my life for various reasons.
I no longer hide.
I am practicing self-love and acceptance. It’s a journey, vital but never-ending.
Today I’ve started exercising for my mental health.
I will conquer ✊🏻.

Every time I’m in Butaro
@ughe_org
I’m reminded of how blessed I’m to work with amazing people who deeply care about health equity. So grateful to do the work that centers communities and their leadership in the search of sustainable solutions to global problems
Those intelligent people who don’t brag about their skills and talents, who lead a good life without trying to impress anyone, and can respect everyone regardless of gender, religion ,titles etc.
Those people who look for solutions. I love them.
LOVE THEM.
If you are not the right candidate, please let your colleagues know about the opportunities they might be great candidates to. I am grateful for my friend

In one of the training sessions, a CHW came with her baby. What a blessing! The CHW said that one of the reasons she had to come with a baby

was “to inspire her child to pursue excellence in the same way UGHE is doing it”

Excited to be heading to Paris for the International Conference on Gynecology and Women's Health.

Some of us are so talented but our attitude is our worst enemy. We treat people like we’re better than them; we talk to people like we are doing them a favor. We look down on people like they’re nothing.

Yes, the goal remains the same: to tackle today’s complex reproductive and sexual health issues 💃
Our international health students have kicked off their Community Based Education

Last August, I lost my Mom and it has been a challenging journey for me as I still struggle with her loss. I find it frustrating when people tell me to simply "move on," as if it's an easy task. Grief is a personal journey and there is no set timeline for when it should end.
It was an incredible day dedicated to honoring the late Dr. Paul Farmer, the wonderful "Muganga Mwiza."
Yours truly had the honor of being the Master of Ceremonies.

As part of CBT, our medical students

are learning the art of motivational interviewing. Students are being prepared to work with patients with maladaptive behavior and chronic health conditions. This afternoon, they will visit the HF to learn from the NCD nurses
Yesterday my friend was feeling suicidal.
I told her to hold on
I told her there’s hope
I told her that needing help doesn’t make her weak
If you have friends who are suicidal;
Tell them they are not alone.
Hope and help are real, and they are worthy of both.
Just got the news that I nailed my predoctoral presentation. Still a long road ahead, but taking each step with pride!
Please send positive vibes to “yours truly, the PhD candidate.”😊
As time goes by, life has a way of rearranging itself. People enter your life, and inevitably leave.
Things have a tendency to happen that can turn your world upside down. You'll come to realize eventually, that even though things are different, you are as well. Be stoic ✊🏻💛🌟

Such a fulfilling week it was
@ughe_org
as we conclude the training of nurses, data managers and CHWs who support us in CBE teaching for medical students. We also planted a “ tree of hope” in memory of our beloved late Dr Farmer
I hate the question people ask about domestic violence : “Why does she stay?” The better question is “ Why does he beat her?” It takes a great deal of courage to leave a man who threatens you. We shouldn’t be asking why they stay. We should be asking “ What can I do to help”?
I wonder why people think that it is strange to be a woman from Africa and be passionate about LGBTQ related research.
Globally, LGBTQ individuals disproportionately experience many barriers to healthcare access, and it is should be a priority to address those barriers.
Today would have been Dr. Paul Farmer’s 63rd birthday.
@ughe_org
, we planted a Redwood tree in his memory. Dr Paul will always be remembered, and forever missed.

Why do people refer to Africa like it’s just one country?
I often hear people say :
“ When I went to Africa ” and I’m like where did you go; did you go to Kigali or Lagos or Dar es salaam?!
Every woman has a story. I am talking about, a story of when some guy, whether it was your friend, a relative or stranger did something sexual to you that you did not consent to. That’s called sexual harassment
The silence around sexual harassment settlements should end!
During our CBE session, our MBBS students had the privilege of spending time with the incredible nurse Fanny at the health center. The innovative approach to teaching ASHR using games and cards has made learning about this important topic an interactive and engaging experience.

Speaking of how difficult periods can be I know someone whose body doesn't respond to painkillers so she goes to hospital to get morphine shots at 5am before heading to work. Yo! 😩
And if you still attach stigma to people with mental health problems, please remember two things. First, it could easily happen to you. And second, no one stigmatises their illness more than the people who suffer from it.

I used to be so proud of people telling me how resilient I am and how "nothing knocks me down."
It wasn't even that long ago that I realized, oh..this is a set up.This whole thing is a set up.
I don’t want to be called resilient again.
I want support
I want softness

Feminists aren’t women who yell at men. It’s all the people who recognize the inequality of norms that are imposed on women to dress a certain way, who disagree with the patriarchal norms that make it fine for men to objectify women, and who support victims of sexual assault.
