@Charlie12906411 @MayorWayneBrown Cyclings one of the cheapest modes for individual & society;less than PT,& especially cars Cycles/micromobility come in diverse designs,& human-scale enough to have low skill threshold key to independence for many who cant walk far-other modes dont get right to (or in) the door

@Charlie12906411 @MayorWayneBrown And 1 more; Cycleways are proven to increase safety for everyone, no matter what mode they are travelling. Plus, sharing footpaths with cycles/scooters is the 2nd most unsafe feeling aspect of walking for NZers - that fear contributes to trips not made

@Charlie12906411 @MayorWayneBrown Something like 1% of the transport budget is spent on cycleways; Akld is falling behind NZ and the world on this. And, most of those $ go to silly mega projects, eg New Lynn to Avondale. projects which make more effective use of existing space like this are very good value

@Charlie12906411 @MayorWayneBrown Several counters across west/central record over 1000/day, plus they seem to be inconsistant at picking up scooters 1:20 now arrive in the City by cycle, but cycleways ofc also enable scooters, mobility scooters etc Heres a 2022 vid of a normal weekday:
@Broughton68 @NewshubNZ In the very few places in Auckland that we have built connected networks, they perform exceptionally well, and result in fewer cars on the road - making it easier for people who want to drive. Ian Mckinnon used to be a traffic jam, and would be again if those bikes were cars.

@Charlie12906411 @MayorWayneBrown This 300m missing link, on a road with lots of excess space, links existing Victoria and Queen St cycleways, plus what will be the busiest station in NZ, to a cycleway network spanning the west and central west which 1000s of ppl rely on

@Charlie12906411 @MayorWayneBrown Sorry I dont understand - Whats 'entitled' about this cycleway?

@MayorWayneBrown Its critical for 2 reasons: -The short missing link connects existing Vic & Queen St bikeways to the network (they arent currently) -Was 7 lanes merging suddenly to 2. Drivers are drawn into what looks like a big arterial, then are surprised to be congesting a narrow urban street

@jonatha89493760 @HendoWest I can’t pay my way there because there’s no bus to tag on to…. I’m confused by your comment

@Sine879012 @Earthyundertone @Tiare_MP Mate, as I said, the demand isn’t there for buses. Many of the people would simply drive in that case, adding to congestion and overall increasing costs

@Sine879012 @Earthyundertone @Tiare_MP bigger challenges would be: -funding to cover rapid increase in public transport demand, & need for more footpaths/cycleways - big shifts in where and when people use goods and services- shops booming vs failing. Big shifts amongst goods prices too, as freights a big factor

@Sine879012 @Earthyundertone @Tiare_MP each time ive caught it’s been faster than road. Certainly more reliable With works finishing up this week, itl be 15 mins faster still Not about entitlement, its about keeping ppl moving effectively. Better PTs the only way to get off current course towards constant gridlock
