This is a huge maw soft sculpture I made sometime last year! It features two tongue options, a textured mouth roof, and a pickable nose.
It is about 23in long from the nose to the base! It was an experiment for me to test out some new fabrication techniques and has been sold 💙

Some detail shots of the maw 👅
Everything on the sculpture is sewn, no glued edges. The roof of the mouth has thread sculpting for a squishy, but detailed interior. There are two tongues that attach via velcro and it comes with a removable piercing as well!

If you want to make ears more poseable, try sandwiching some wire in between some eva foam!
Just note that the more foam and fur you add, the less poseable the ears are. I suggest using a thicker wire or braiding some wires together to keep the strength up after furring.

Another favorite project of mine.. a bumble bee! The wings and handpaws were my favorite parts to make, the segments in the wings are actually strips of leather rope 🐝

Fabrication came last, the upper and lower jaw were attached in a way where they are sturdy but hinged so the maw can open as much or as little as the customer wants.

The base is solid upholstery foam, I had to carve it with a turkey knife and use spray upholstery adhesive for a lot of the beginning stages of the process.
The detail shapes were made from one inch foam added on top to smooth things out. These shapes were all just eyeballed!

Then came fabricating the upper jaw! The roof is like a U shaped pillow with ridges sewn in. I kept the upper and lower jaw separated until the very end to make sewing easier.
Lots of folks thought the maw would make a good cat bed, Bella thought so too!

My comfort item is a large jellycat dragon I named Barnaby. When he started to get skrunkly I wanted a backup just in case and found out his size was discontinued (it took me 2 years to find it, ugh). Now I have a backup and one in every size and I also want a tattoo of him 😭

The nose is hollow 1 inch foam made from a paper pattern that I enlarged. It is fabricated on the inside and outside with luxe fleece. The lower jaw was made in a similar way as the upper jaw, essentially eyeballing shapes and hacking at foam for a few hours

Next came the lower jaw. The teeth are white neoprene and the gums are minky. The teeth and gums are sewn and plush.
